Preparation for War
Amir Al'Mumin'in Ibn Saud understood the reasons for the British restrain in selling him the lands, but was still apprehensive and angry. It was always the goal of his life is to free the holy lands from the control of foreign empires. For hundreds of years, Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem were under control of the Ottomans . Then came the Arab revolt, where the people of Arabia were promised freedom from colonization and their sovereignty “guaranteed” by Britain for their help. But old habits die hard, and England couldn't help itself to the lands that are home to millions of Muslims and Arabs.
Ibn Saud knew now his course of action. War, was the only answer. The people of Arabia would support him, his representative government would support him, but, most importantly, the clergy of Sunni Islam would support him, this was the key. Jihad bis Saif, Jihad of the Sword, or simply Lesser Jihad, can only be issued by the highest of Islamic Clergy, a Mufti, via a fatwa. This, Ibn Saud, was definitely capable. He rose quickly in the Mullah of Arabia after the Revolution and in the current position of Amir Al'mumin'in, was the head cleric of Arabia. Although to issue such a religious edict he knew that he should pass it through an vote in the annual congregation of the Mullahs of Arabia in Riyadh, this would be simplistic and relatively easy, as no high level cleric would doubt the right of control of Mecca and Medina, and to a lesser extent Jerusalem , to a Islamic state.
If such an fatwa was issued, many clerics throughout Arabia would surely issue similar edicts. Most particularly was the areas closest culturally to the IRA; the province of Hedjaz, and Southern Iraq. When the Clergy in Mecca issue such a harsh statement and call to arms against the British, everyone, or so Ibn Saud hoped, would follow through. Mobilization was key, however. Ibn Saud studied failed popular revolts against the British in places like India, North America and Africa. All of these were disunified, and the British quickly provoked tribes to fight one another instead, letting the British rule supreme. The solution was to create a fairly organized fighting force that was suited to the terrain of Arabia. The tanks of the desert is the Camel, easily capable of crossing more sandy distance than any tracked or wheeled vehicle around. More ever, the camel was maneuverable, easily able to climb rocky hills that no beast of machinery could even approach. This was the key strategy, take the high ground, and raid the below troops.
With the combined forces of cavalry and popular uprising, the British had little chance. The small forces that the British had trained would mutiny with the combined effects of the fatwa's against the British, as well as the pressure from the community. The colonial forces from Britain would have little hope of holding onto any desert land while the camels encircled them. The plan was almost fool proof.
