CUBA INVADED, "HAVANA" CAPTURED

cubanchoppers.jpg

Cuban gunships disembark from Santa Clara for the front lines

Holguin, Occupied Cuba - Smoke floats over southern Cuba as American and Mexican forces begin a large scale offensive to eliminate North America’s only socialist state. The invasion began with intensive missile and air strikes by the American Second Fleet, which targeted both military and civilian targets. The Cubans, in response, began firing anti-ship missiles from land and naval platforms, which scored several hits and sunk an American destroyer. Shortly thereafter, the Mexican Flota del Caribe joined the fighting as American forces from the Bahamas landed. Cuban forces were quickly mobilized from the north of the country, but floundered when facing not one, but two large armies. Air support was cut off quickly by land based fighter aircraft based in Florida, giving the Mexicans and Americans uncontested skies. At sea, the Mexicans quickly engaged and incapacitated the Cuban navy, thus giving the allies complete naval superiority.

After each secured a beachhead, the Mexican and American armies moved to take Havana, the Cuban capital. After heavy fighting, the two armies managed to control the city, but quickly realized it wasn’t Havana, but Holguin. A foolish cartography error was made by American military strategists, which thought the capital was in the southeast, not nearly 500 miles away in the northwest. Either way, the cratered southern tip of Cuba is now in the hands of the joint-forces. Between their current position and the real city of Havana is a determined Cuban army.

BRAZILIANS BLITZ BOLIVIA

Brazilian infantry arrive in the town of Puerto Suarez

Tarija, Occupied Bolivia - With the completion of the Paraguayan campaign, the Brazilian military has turned their sights to the landlocked nation of Bolivia. A two pronged attack was planned with the Amazonian and Southeastern Armies making a rendezvous in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. Before then, the Brazilians were to control the Andean foothills in the south central part of the country as well as most of the rainforest areas of the eastern border with Brazil. However, this proved to be more difficult than expected.

Brazilian battle plans called for the splitting up of much of the Southeastern Army as they advanced towards Camiri and Tarija. At first is worked, but soon proved to be a fatal mistake as Bolivian defenders found unsupported units and eliminated them with relative ease. An armored column sent toward Santa Cruz was intercepted by Bolivian tank destroyers near the town of Lagunillas. Air support arrived too late to save the ground units, but were still able to take out a large chunk of Bolivia’s armored forces. The Amazonian Army encountered a similar problem as a contingent of troops was nearly wiped out near the border town of San Matias by Bolivian infantry. All in all, the Brazilians made decent gains, but have not done much damage to the Bolivian defenders. At the moment, the bulk of the Bolivian ground forces are fortifying the Sucre, Potosi, and the surrounding area between the Brazilians and the altiplano while a smaller force is trying to stop the enemy east of Santa Cruz.

THOUSANDS DEAD ON "HELL'S HIGHWAY"

shighway.jpg

Destroyed vehicles line highway after being cleared by Saudi forces

Ad Dammām, Saudi Arabia - What was originally planned as an evacuation of civilians quickly turned into a massacre on what many in the international community are now calling “Hell’s Highway”. A plea by the Saudi government to evacuate the trapped residents of Ad Dammām was made last month and accepted by UIR military officials. The ceasefire was to allow enough time for civilians to flee to neighboring Qatar via motor vehicles on the relatively undamaged highway system. The planned route was to be through neutral Bahrain by way of the King Fahd and Qatar-Bahrain causeways. However, the large convoy was attacked by UIR helicopter gunships, aircraft and rocket artillery which killed just over 8,000 people and clogged the highway with over a mile of destroyed vehicles, which trapped many more inside the warzone.

The Saudis, realizing many civilian vehicles were used in fortifications or destroyed in the fighting, scraped together a fleet of vehicles which included many military trucks and armored vehicles. A group of UIR gunships, on patrol in the area, spotted the convoy moving towards their lines, between Ad Dammām and Khobar, and opened fire. After their runs, the pilots called in for strike fighters and artillery to finish off the rest. Upon realizing they just killed civilians, many soldiers involved in the attack became disheartened, lowing morale overall.

Saudi forces in Ad Dammām, in retaliation of the slaughter of innocents, began launching massive artillery strikes against UIR positions, which caused UIR shelling in response. Both sides have taken a harsh beating and Ad Dammām seems to look like a shattered shell of what it once was. UIR forces are haggard and reinforcements are a fair distance away, near the Yemeni border.

JAP MARINES HIT PHILIPPINES

Japanese troops move inland from beachhead near Glan

General Santos, Occupied Philippines - Moving from smaller islands to bigger islands, Japanese forces invaded the Philippines this month. The invasion begin with an impressive display of Japanese naval power. Near the town of Appari, on the island of Luzon, Japanese missiles pulverized defenses in preparation for the landing of troops. As the Army of Kyushu landed, they quickly met resistance from the large garrison based north of Manila, who effectively prevented the enemy from moving inland.

A second landing was made on Mindanao island in the south, which opened with a similar display of naval firepower. The Japanese Army of Honshu landed outside of the city of General Santos and moved inland fairly quickly, but were repulsed by Filipino defenders. Carrier based aircraft managed to knock out most of the enemy air forces, but were unable to find many Filipino gunships, which make up most of the Filipino aerial units. Japanese air superiority has been established over occupied territory, but not any further inland. At sea, the Japanese have eliminated all defensive craft…but land based defenses cannot be ruled out.

Uruguay Falls

Montevideo, Argentine Republic - The Argentine conquest of Uruguay was completed this month as the one-two punch of Argentina’s Air Force and mechanized forces finished off the remaining defenders. Argentine air superiority won the day as defensive fortifications were quickly reduced to rubble by the bombs of strike fighters, paving the way for a fast moving assault on the ground. Mechanized units of the 1st Army stormed into the smaller cities and towns to make sure Uruguayan forces were unable to form up new defensive positions or escape their demise.

Brazilian Fleet Off West Africa

Praia, Republic of Brazil - The Brazilians, in what has proved to be an astonishing move, took the island nation of Cape Verde. Carrier-based aircraft and missile strikes from Brazilian cruisers quickly and effectively obliterated the local military, which were caught completely off guard. A small army then secured the islands and established Brazilian superiority. The move has been seen internationally as a Brazilian attempt to expand their sphere of influence beyond the South American continent, and it appears to have worked. The Brazilian 1st Fleet now sits a mere 450 kilometers from the Senegalese capital of Dakar, and the rest of the African continent.

Europeans Active in Balkans

Tirana, European Federation - The sudden relocation of L'Ancienne Armée from Lithuania to Greece has proven to be the beginning of European involvement in the Balkan nations. Following the expulsion of European diplomats from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia, European forces stormed into Albania. The Albanian military fought gallantly to fend off the European assault, but found itself outgunned, outmaneuvered, and outclassed by their advancing foe. A final stand by the town of Kavaje was crushed, opening the doors to Tirana and the whole of northern Albania.

Zimbabwe Capitulates

Harare, Union of South Africa - The Zimbabwean government handed over their country to South Africa after a very effective attack neutralized nearly all the nation’s defenses. South African airstrikes and artillery bombardments eliminated all enemy defenses in the south of the country. Immediately after, the Second Legion, spearheaded by armor and gunships, raced across the country and into the capital. Threatening the complete destruction of all of Zimbabwe, the South Africans strong-armed the enemy into surrendering.

Headway Made in Mozambique

Maputo, Occupied Mozambique - A freshly trained army has been ordered to move on Mozambique. The South African 2nd Legion, equipped with new vehicles and heavy weapons, seized the populated southern tip of the country with relatively few casualties. The assistance of the Liberty Fleet was integral in this accomplishment, as it was able to provide support which South African aircraft could not. The slow, meticulous advance of the South Africans has allowed for the all potential supply lines into the country to become secure. Mozambican forces have set up near the town of Maxixe and have cut the highway from Maputo to Beira in an attempt to stall the enemy while more adequate defenses can be constructed further north.

Evacuation of Manjung

Ipoh, Malaysia - Indonesian high command called for the complete withdrawal from their northern neighbor. However, they made no attempt to make peace with the enemy. Malaysian counterattacks against the Indonesian forces on peninsular Malaysia made withdrawal extremely difficult. Transport ships found few port facilities in which to load troops. In a move reminiscent of Dunkirk in World War II, small boats in the Strait of Malacca were commandeered to get troops from shore to the transports. The closing pocket meant many soldiers were killed or captured.

Aussies Swallow Solomons

Honiara, Austral Union - In the Austral Union’s first military action of the year, the soldiers of Oz invaded the Solomon Islands. The Solomons, which had maintained no military force, was quickly overrun with the excursion being quick and bloodless. The move has shown the Aussies do indeed have a stake in the Pacific realm.

Chinese Stopped by Tian Shan, Again

Kashi, Republic of Greater China - In a bold, but foolish move, the Chinese attempted a second attack through the Torugart Pass in the middle of the winter. Unlike their last attempt, however, artillery strikes were made against Kyrgyz forces on the other side of the mountains. These attacks did manage to deal some damage to enemy defenses, but were not nearly enough to cause any sort of route. The ground assault yielded almost the same outcome as last month, except with slightly smaller avalanches. Experts in Beijing have advised against any additional actions in trying to cross the Tian Shan mountains until May, when conditions will be more favorable. Many of the Chinese cannot help but wonder why the military made such a poor decision not once, but twice.

Rangoon Flattened As China Prepares

Mandalay, Occupied Myanmar - In preparation for a southern offensive, naval missile strikes have scarred the cityscape of Rangoon. The Chinese objective was to pound any available targets within range while ground based aircraft and ground forces could be moved into position to strike next month. The attacks were so successful, officials believe the 42nd Army Group could march all the way to the Kra Isthmus without any real resistance.

Protests Continue to Plague South America

Brasilia, Republic of Brazil - The continued alliance between the Argentine and Brazilian states continues to spur protests in several major cities. Demonstrations have swollen in size over the past month and show no sign of stopping soon. Protesters are becoming increasingly frustrated that their voices are not being heard by national leaders.

New Potential Technologies Uncovered

Bangalore, Republic of India - India's research into space technologies has got scientists thinking on what else can be done with space. The ISRO now believes it is possible no only to go to space, but to establish colonies in Earth's orbit. Another idea is that weapons platforms can be put in space to attack targets on the Earth's surface. Researchers and scientists worldwide have accepted the ideas, but those in India are the only ones able to make them a reality, for now.

The dirty capitalists have attacked! Please, help us brother in socialism...we can only hold them for so long!

OOC

Ok, so, some of you are under the impression that amphibious landings can be done anytime, anywhere, and with any old units. This isn't true. If you want to have really successful landings, you need not only marines, but the Amphibious Assault specialization.

In addition, some of you still are having trouble with Air Wing range. On the map, there is a large circle with a point in the middle. To find whether your Air Wing can reach an area, place the center point on your Air Wing. If the target isn't in the circle, you can't hit it. Also, Air Wings cannot relocate and attack in the same turn.

Please put stats at the top of your orders. Also, some of you have orders that are extremely disorganized and hard to understand. Try to split your orders into Spending, Domestic Policy, Foreign Policy, Military Orders, etc. Things are easier for me when you do that. If you want an example of a nice order layout, PM me.

I've decided to get rid of the rule regarding paying extra upkeep when an army is on the offensive. I was never really a fan of it anyways.

New technologies are now available.

Deadline for Update 4 orders is Friday, April 8th at 8:00pm CST

OOC:Ya that was stupid of me, I guess its got to bite me in the butt once or twice twice before I learn.

Yeha, I did remember saying to attack Havana in my orders...

...My army is to march eastward, liberating, but avioding big battles in, cities. Havana is the main prize for this turnset.

And, before you ask, all my troops were told to land in the western potion of Cuba.

I got to where I think I wanted to go: land right west of that eastern city, cut off their leading elements, bomb them to heck and take it over. With Omegas orders, I don't know what happened.

I think I said that I wasn't going to go to havanna... checking orders.

Army 1 and Navy 3 invade Cuba's east end.
Yeah, and I used 'The City' instead of Havanna. Nowhere did I say that I was going to Havanna. This news is really Biased!

Thats old news AU.

We take issue with your claim to New Guinea, but other than that, we have no complaints with the treaty now.

Indonesia will sign if New Guinea is hers because its on an island I own part of.

Can we have the stats put in a spoiler and included in each update? It make referencing for orders a lot easier.

Hey.

I fully accept and sign the revised ANZUS II treaty. If there are any connotations, ignore them.
