Dawn of Colonization

"What happened to Buddhism"? This is the question that pondered the 2nd Dalia Lama as he studied the ancient teaching of the Buddha himself. "It used to be a religion of tolerance and peace, and yet now those Mongols up north bastardize it to justify their various wars of conquest and pillaging. The Buddha would never tolerate any aggressive warfare of any kind, and barely even for self-defence".

He sighed, and thought back to the turbulent times of the Red Plague. Tibet was spared from most of the plague, due to its remote location in the Himalayas. That is, not to say, that the plague never came. It just that it didn't really do much to the society due to the remote location. Monks still mediated, Tibet was still peaceful, and the country still kept to itself. When the rest of the world was dying, the great cultural works were still being preserved and even made.

Perhaps, without Tibet, true peaceful Buddhism would had died out during the plague. Mongolia and Shadow followers are sure trying to stamp out the peaceful adherents that are left in the world. They consider those considering traditional Buddhism to be "backwards" and "cowards". However, those who still remain are united, and actually look at the Dalia Lama as the Eastern Pope, a source of stability in this chaotic world.

Going back to his writing, he knew that he must reaffirm the neutrality of Tibet. "The Mongols are getting restless", he thought as he grabbed a capsule of ink. He started writing for a half hour straight, and at the end he had a final document:

"TO THE WORLD

As the world around us burns and goes to ashes, as the people following their gods' words to eternal warfare, and as the plagues that dominate the countryside for the past years flare up yet again, let it be known that we will not kindle any more fires. We will not intentionally try to cause suffer in others, and we shall always be tolerant of others. This is the way of the Buddha, and his ways are indeed also ours.

So, as we promise to to stay back in neutral lands, all we ask return for the world is to reconize us as sacred ground. Do not try to destroy our paradise on this Earth, and in turn we will keep an open ear to all leaders and their followers, no matter what may have happened before.

Also, do not make our adherents fight. The Buddha has told us never to kill, and to reach Nirvana we shall not hurt anyone. But you must also respect that your subjects of our faith will likewise refuse to raise a sword, which entails you not conscripting Buddhists".

He smiled as the note was finished, and called an aide forward. "Deliver a copy of this to the Khan, the Emperors of China, and the Shogun, along with whoever else will listen to our words. Now, with haste"!, he said. After he left, the Dalai Lama went to meditate to clear his mind of these mortal whims.

@Sonereal: Why does it say that Celtic-Catholism is my state religion? We don't persecute it but it certainly isn't encouraged.

In my stats, it isn't. It's a major religion in your country but it isn't underlined. Check the post underneath the update with the correct religious views.

From a chat with Sonereal the Provinces have a Resistance RNG but i'm not sure it's similar to a battle in that you can LOSE an army, on the off chance it's similar to a battle I've just taken the Provinces next to my Forts.

Some clarification would be nice. Sorry Sonereal I'm sure after the first turn we will get into the swing of things.

The resistance RNG is similar to a battle. You can lose forces. Sorry for the confusion.

No fractional orders or "rest into" orders. Give me exact numbers.

Can these two things please be explained fully?

Excommunication
Does it merely destablise a foreign nation if they have worshippers from your own religion, or does it also cause destabilisation in your own cities if the schism sect is there?

More of the former, a little on the latter.

Crusades
Does it cause all followers to declare war or merely give bonuses to those that do? Does it ensure stability while at war?

What happens is that the papal controller religion leader declares a holy war and nations with that religion as their state religion can "answer the call". The religion leader and nations joining in on the war receive a maintenance reduction depending on who joins. Add up the stability of all the crusading stats and that is the percent reduction in maintenance.

Crusading states should actually coordinate and figure out the percent reduction when doing their own orders or they risk problems if they don't budget correctly (GM can't do everything after all).

What are my exact numbers as a late starter ?

I assume Jihads by Islamic nations will be similar ;)

Today, High Priestess of the Monolith, Sasha Tvarisch, has come to the High Council of the Crimea, to request a tax raise, to stabilize the Crimea's economy in the face of a large military spending binge. To aid economic growth after a (relatively) large portion of the population was conscripted into the military, the tax rate of the Theocratic Republic of the Crimea has been raised by 5%.

Yes, they would be similar.

Forgot to add this to the last post

New players. There are three categories in the stats, Europe, Africa/Middle East, and Asia. Next to the category names are the average number of provinces, pops, etc. You start out with this turn.

Europeans: $23, 550 pops.
African/Middle East: $22, 536 pops.
Asia: $23, 548 pops.

The Kingdom of Jerusalem would like to offer trade agreements with the Kolkatan Empire and with our brothers in the faith Milan. We believe that such an agreement would benefit all countries involved.

We also offer a NAP with Egypt on the condition that Egypt forfeits all claim to the Sinai and guarantees the protection of Orthodox Catholics from the fanatical mobs who have attacked them and guarantees the communities current liberties.

OOC: I believe everyone trades automatically in this IOT, ergo, a trade agreement is meaningless. (Unless you meant an EUIII style trade agreement)

IC: (Assuming you meant an EUIII style trade agreement) We would be delighted to sign a trading agreement with our brothers in faith.

OOC again: @Sone, how much resistance do Old World province put up? How many armies should we send to 'gaurantee' success?

Five at most to insure anywhere from a 87% chance of success down to 50% if the roll for spawned armies is 5.

According to this, it's my state religion.

Changing orders to reflect this.

All throughout the Grand Duchy of Milan, celebrations were occuring; Military parades in Milan, Brescia, Turin, Alessandria, Imperia, & Genoa showed the might of Milan's forces to her citizens while Milanese musicians renowned across the Mediterranean played uplifting tunes.

The Day of Celebration had been ordered by Grand Duke Bonaventura Gualtiero III Visconti to commemorate the extreme good fortune that had struck Milan in recent years. Italian merchants, once renowned throughout Europe for their shrewd business sense, had quickly taken charge of Mediterranean trade, and now the Milanese merchant network streched from the blistering deserts of Jerusalem & Arabia to the great cities of the Crimea to the British Isles & the frigid waters of the North & Baltic Seas. The Orthodox Catholic faith, once small and insignificant, had in a staggeringly short time period expanded its influence to cover vitually the entirety of the Mediterranean Sea, France, & Germany, with a significant number of followers in parts of Iberia, the Balkans, & the Black Sea. The rejoining of the Eastern & Western Church had further expanded Orthodox Catholicism's influence & led directly to the conversion of Prussia. To top it off, the Grand Duke & his bride, who had for many years been trying to concieve a child, finally succeeded, with Grand Duchess Fiammetta Rosabella Visconti giving birth to twin boys, Bonaventura Gualtiero IV Visconti & Gian Galeazzo II Visconti. Along with the Day of Celebration came a generous tax break, and Milanese merchants were even now putting their Aurei to good use, funding new industrial developments & commisioning new trade vessels designed to effortlessly said the world's oceans.

The Day of Celebration served another purpose, however; to increase the morale of the military. Shortly after the Day of Celebrations ended, Milanese troops would be heading into Nice, Savoy, and Veneto to conquer those provinces in the name of the Grand Duke and the name of God. Indeed, the Grand Duke himself will be leading the conquest of Veneto, seeking to claim the historic port city of Venice for the Grand Duchy of Milan.
