(DEBATE) True or false? True friends are forever

I see friendship as a dumb thing now because one day you have friends, and then the next they end up on the other end of the world, or just really far away in the same country and then you're sad.

The cure to that is no more friends.

That's the problem I have at the moment, I only really see everyone at Christmas; and then they always seem to be in a rush to leave again.

When they're here they're great friends and we have a blast; but it doesn't happen very often or for very long these days.

Man, growing up sucks

Yeah, true friends are forever. But that doesn't mean they have to back you up every time.

I don't think that anything in real life is as concrete and concrete and absolute as "true" friends, and "forever". We're all individuals, we all change, we all end up in different circumstances, we can never truly know what's in the minds of others. Friends are people who you get along with more than other people, good friends you get along with even more and share more and trust each other more. But do you ever get to a stage where friendship reaches perfection and you become "true" friends? I just think it's a romantic notion that doesn't really match reality. Anyone has the capacity to have a disagreement and a falling out with someone at any point, and it can depend as much on circumstances as the people in question.

True friends stick with you no matter what.

I'm going to say something potentially controversial here and claim that friendships are dynamic.

Some will last, some will not, for a variety of reasons. All you can really do is value the friendships that you have right now, and maybe try to make new ones.

I try not to put my friends into categories, even though I trust some of them more than others. There are a couple friends I would consider close friends.. but I consider them all true friends, to an extent. As soon as someone isn't a "true" friend, I call them an acquaintance.

So I suppose what I'm saying is only true because I fuddled with the definitions. (but I think I did so for a good reason)

Wise man.
