December 2020 Update - Patch Notes Discussion

Coming back to my personal pet peeve... AI and strategic ressource trading...

I think I figred out their new pricing logic - they deciding factor seems to be solely if they have 0 of a strategic ressource or more at the moment you trade with them:

- If they have zero units of a ressource, you can get the double price for selling them 40 units of Iron/Horses/Niter
- If they have 1 unit or more, you can only sell up to their purchse limit for the "normal price"
(I filed a bug report with an example here: [NFP] - [1.0.8.4] AI pricing of strategic ressources: Initial storage 0 = double price, 1< = normal price | CivFanatics Forums )

I haven't yet come to the late game ressources...will see if those have gotten this as well on top of the existing issues with them.

I recently discovered that, at least most of the time, you can offer 1g for a relic, ask what would make it fair, and they'll say the exact same deal is acceptable. I don't know what's up with their new valuing logic but something didn't get playtested too much.
It’s a broad error: you can ask for and get all but their capital city to end a war!

So there's Khmer AI in my game, started post-December patch. They have a religion, I have a religion. They have Prasats.

I go and kill their missionary with my apostles, then go to the trade screen all hopeful to buy their new relic, as I have the Reliquaries belief, and... nothing. Khmer haven't got a single relic. I'm sure I've killed at least two of their missionaries in a religious combat, but they have zero relics. Nobody else in the world have any relics except me, and I've got a few with the help of Kandy. And I know (or killed) all the civs there are in the game. I checked the Khmer later - still nothing. Usually they used to have tons of relics, didn't they? What happened? Was there some change? A possible bug?

I'm only running a couple of UI mods: Better Reports and Better Trade Screen (for the trade routes, not the Deal screen).

Do they have any Cities that have a Holy Site but don't have any Prasats?

When I killed those missionaries, I did not see much of their territory, later I uncovered some part of it and they have at least 5 fully developed HSs, including 5 Prasats. But 0 relics.
How much later?

Can't remember now, I'll have to go through my save games to tell something more specific. Now I'm desperately trying to find a living missionary of theirs with a big target painted on, but I'm only meeting apostles. Still, Khmer with no relics is something I find strange. Usually they get most of them.

That's always been the way it works in my xp.

I've always felt like AIs owning great works (including relics) is somehow not functioning correctly. I often am getting destroyed in the culture game and I go to try and send spies to steal things from theater squares from civs that are winning, but all their theater squares are empty (i.e. spy can't steal from them).

OK, I've found a suitable save, replayed a turn or two, and saved it at the point, where my apostle would one-shot kill the Khmer missionary, if that's the first action you do after loading it. The missionary is next to Sparta, I saw it coming from Angkor Wat, it has Prasat, other visible Khmer HS also seem to have a Prasat. Yet when I kill the missionary, there are no relics in the deal screen with the Khmer. I'm uploading the save, maybe someone who is familiar with the firetuner could take a look and see, if the missionary really has the Martyr abilility?

That's always been the way it works in my xp.
What do you mean, that Khmer have no relics?

I agree - this has been baffling me for a while now. Obviously their culture is coming from somewhere else, but so far I have not been able to work it out

but where did their great work come from when they offer me to trade my resources with it?

Any News when they gonna make the Update Video for the January DLC? Next Monday perhaps?

While I don't have news, we can probably count the first 10 days of January, considering their Update Video Dates.

Based on past precedent I'd say
  • Monday 1/11 - January Developer Update Video
  • Thursday 1/14 - Alternate Leader First Look
  • Tuesday 1/19 - New Civilization First Look
  • Wednesday 1/20 - Livestream
  • Thursday 1/21 - Release
If we don't get a video on 1/11, then I'd say everything shifts 7 days so the update video would be on 1/18 and release on 1/28. Also, soundtrack video release dates have been all over so can't say for certain there.

Good analysis! Although, I would probably give it at least around the first 10-days mark for the first update video to be posted.

The soundtrack videos are arguably the best part. You get to blast music you know will be amazing no matter what! :D
