December 2020 Update - Patch Notes Discussion

Based on past precedent I'd say
  • Monday 1/11 - January Developer Update Video
  • Thursday 1/14 - Alternate Leader First Look
  • Tuesday 1/19 - New Civilization First Look
  • Wednesday 1/20 - Livestream
  • Thursday 1/21 - Release
If we don't get a video on 1/11, then I'd say everything shifts 7 days so the update video would be on 1/18 and release on 1/28. Also, soundtrack video release dates have been all over so can't say for certain there.
Would they choose to show anything on the 18th considering that's MLK Jr. Day here in the U.S.?
I think not so your prediction is probably accurate.

Although, I would probably give it at least around the 10-day mark.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the 10-day mark".

:dunno: MLK Day is a Federal holiday, but the majority of private businesses are still open. In any event, it doesn't really matter for YT videos since they can be uploaded and set to go live whenever. I still think it'll be the 11th for the Jan. Update video, but I'm hedging as it may be pushed back because of the holidays.

Just an FYI, my "predictions" are just based on precedent. While I've been tracking all the release version numbers and dates for many years, I also have a spreadsheet where I've documented all video and livestream releases including day/date since the original announcement trailer in May 2016. Although, FXS occasionally does go "off script" on days/dates. :crazyeye:

Within the first 10-days mark, as in, the first 10 days of January for the first update video to be posted. Perhaps. :dunno:

I've always felt like AIs owning great works (including relics) is somehow not functioning correctly. I often am getting destroyed in the culture game and I go to try and send spies to steal things from theater squares from civs that are winning, but all their theater squares are empty (i.e. spy can't steal from them).

There was a bug for a while that prevented the great work theft mission from being available, regardless of whether the target had something to steal. That was fixed a few patches back, though.

@Duke William of Normandy - Sorry still don't get what you meant by, "Although, I would probably give it at least around the 10-day mark." The first date I had was for Jan. 11th.
I meant within the first 10 days of January for the first update video to be posted. Let's see if I can edit this to make sense... Just did it.

Still not making sense, bro. Do you mean not within the first 10 days, or within the first 10 days?
WIthin the first 10 days.

WIthin the first 10 days.
They've always been on a Monday.
The 4th seems too early.
The 18th seems too late, disregarding the fact it's a holiday, meaning the DLC and update would drop around the 28th.
I think the update video will be on the 11th in my opinion.

If the update video will be on the 11th (which is more likely), then the DLC will be released on the 21st, not the 28th.

I agree. I was saying if the video dropped the 18th then the DLC would drop the 28th, which seems pretty late in the month.

OK, I've found a suitable save, replayed a turn or two, and saved it at the point, where my apostle would one-shot kill the Khmer missionary, if that's the first action you do after loading it. The missionary is next to Sparta, I saw it coming from Angkor Wat, it has Prasat, other visible Khmer HS also seem to have a Prasat. Yet when I kill the missionary, there are no relics in the deal screen with the Khmer. I'm uploading the save, maybe someone who is familiar with the firetuner could take a look and see, if the missionary really has the Martyr abilility?

What do you mean, that Khmer have no relics?

Tried your save and yes, no relic is created there. Firing up a game as the Khmer myself, I'm able to generate Relics by having missionaries getting killed:
Spoiler :

So at least it is not always broken, but perhaps under special circumstances. My test wasn't without Secert Socities and I played the Khmer myself, so thats already two differences. Maybe those Voidsingers relics somehow interfere... I would recommend reposting your find as a bug report. I will try to to reproduce in my next game (by enabling secret societies and playing against the Khmer)

There's a limit to number of relics in the match. Maybe it has something to do with it.

Probably not in this case. There were four or so relics across all the civs in the game, I knew everyone and all those relics were mine, so the limit was still far away.

So, since ley lines got a buff, I started a new game to join the Hermetic order. Guess what - the ley lines all appeared in completely inacessible places, so the Hermetic order was useless in the early game.

So one unlucky RNG is able to discredit the whole design.

My very first new game in Hermetic order resulted in 4 ley lines within 9 tiles of my capital, all on the workable grassland tiles. Funny enough, it was my desert Petra city that doesn't have any ley lines nearby.

And I was playing Korea, no need to worry about science allowed me to plop down TS around ley lines very early, which ended me up in winning a Cultural Victory instead.

Yeah, there's always an option to restart. :p In my most recent game, I get 3-4 Ley Lines around my Capital. Haven't finished yet, but a pretty good game start for me. :)

I've liked the changes. My current game I basically settled my #2 and #3 cities directly on ley lines, with another one nearby to one of them. And then still had another city nearby to my cap with a line that I settled on as well (although was off fresh water so was a long time before it became overly useful), plus had another one that I shared between 2 cities. So what was that? 5 of them all within about 10-12 tiles from my capital, plus later on I extended my empire across the mountain range next to another 2 lines that I got full use from, plus over time I captured a few "free cities" and could make sure of another couple of them.

Yeah, it's certainly a very hit or miss option. Probably half the AI starting locations would have been absolutely useless options, but I was very lucky to have a number of them handy for me. I do wish there was something you could do to give you a hint as to whether it makes sense or not in your game, rather than being one of the truly rare times where I will make sure to save before selecting, and if it's just a horrible option, go back and choose a different option.
