Define: Elitist

Not having as much education as others isn't something you should be ashamed of, or feel the need to hide. Just don't bring it up if you aren't willing to discuss it.

LOL...what exactly would "discussing it" achieve? As I said, you could claim anything, but at the end of the day all we have to go on is what you display here since you are a known liar.

By the way, it was you that brought up this comparative education non-starter. I just commented on your spellchecker level command of English.

"I hate elitism, but for the record I am the most highly-educated".

LOL, good catch Traitorfish. If someone really runs the "liberal controls academia", then he or she should run anti-intellectual platform, such as the glorious Cultural Revolution of China.

Consistency 101 wasn't a required course at Civman U.

Only uneducated Hillary supporters say things like that.

I'm not the one to whom you've been bragging about how "educated" you are. :coffee:

Tim was the one who brought up education.

Liberals always behave like children when they lose arguments and elections.

"I hate elitism, but for the record I am the most highly-educated".

Another salty liberal.

This thread needs a "safe space."

Actually I commented on your failure to use grammar beyond a grade school level, which would seem to indicate a poor education. It was you that tried to turn it into this nonsensical "competition."

I'll bet your "debating" style would work a lot better in bars, where people can't check back on what was actually said when you try to rewrite history. Did Civman U hold their debate classes in a drinking establishment?

You've been salty for 2 pages now. Do you have anything remotely interesting to say?

LOL...you've been an object of ridicule for months now, and that's the only thing that makes it interesting having you around.

Is "salty" a newly redefined word straight from the vocabulary department at Civman U?

Elitism is where a select group of people, based on some established metric, have more influence in opinion and authority in a society. The metric can be many things, race, age, wealth, anything that is established to define one as being one of the elites. The trouble comes how you define a group as being elite, and how large does it have to be relative to the rest of a society before its stops being elite and starts being normal? I would almost establish it in loose terms as being a group of special people in a society, but only special based on positive attributes.

Elitism in the U.S.A has become more of a slur or insult, a way to define a group of people as being to far removed from the struggles of the common man and therefore has an authority or opinion that is not worth regarding.

I think this is a whole lot closer to the truth:

If the GOP establishment did honor their vows to "vote Hillary to stop Trump", then Trump already had lost the election.

The GOP establishment just did their lip service to Hillary.

I am looking forward to four years of conservative political cartoonists trying to come up with the most flattering illustration of Trump they can manage, and still having to draw a sack of potatoes in a shiny suit so the readers understand who it's supposed to be.

The liberal establishment is the establishment because they are the one's who have been the dominate force in culture, politics, the media, and academia for the last several decades.
I'm just going to quote and leave this here because of how ridiculous it is.

... No, actually, I'm going to try and ask what the hell you're on. What in the world are you defining as liberalism? What in the world aren't you calling liberalism? Why is any of this elitism, and separated from other power structures that aren't elitist? Just from a superficial analysis of "the last few decades", whether this means two or ten, this statement is incredibly problematic, and when you get into the meat of it, it completely collapses as a comprehensive thought. The rest of the people in this thread claim you have some kind of higher education. What the hell have you studied, and what did you smoke between classes?

EDIT: This is a good thing for you to approach.

I think you've both fundamentally misunderstood the question. You were asked to define elitism, but you've only identified a group of people you would identify as elitists; you haven't actually told us what you think "elitism" is. You're approaching it all backwards.

Actually, come to think of it, its recently used as more a slur to say "Your to far removed from my people to have any kind of credible authority", which is awfully....elitist.

Elitist: one who defers to, and believes others should defer to, elites.

As I recall, he made a comment related to spelling (I don't remember seeing the specific post he was referring to). You're the one who escalated it into bragging about your education. So how about enlightening us - what string of degrees do you have? It must be at least a dozen, considering how proud you are of them.

Liberals always behave like children when they lose arguments and elections.
In case you haven't been paying attention since October 19, 2015, the Liberals did not lose the election. They won a comfortable majority, and the Conservatives lost so badly that Harper did the expected thing (albeit in a cowardly way) and resigned the party leadership.

In case you're referring to the "liberals" in the U.S., I don't know why you keep nattering at me - I'm not American. I also know that the word "liberal" doesn't have the same meaning in the U.S. as it does in Canada. You accused me of being a Liberal supporter, when you've certainly been around long enough to have noticed my avatar last year indicating support for the NDP.

And as I said, the only argument I've lost lately has been one related to Star Trek. Since I don't recall you taking part in that conversation, I really don't know what you're talking about with that comment. :coffee:

Apparently it's a fairly recent addition to the urban dictionary. I guess some people just like new toys. :coffee:
