Deirdra's picture

Should we change Deirdra's picture?

I prefer the old one. The old one looks sort of distant as he should. Like someone that always has his/her mind on other things. A wanderer.

The new one is just too dirty, to down to earth real. It looks too much like a pirate or some sort of commoner.

Deidra is used as a guy's name, where I was born. I know no Deirdra's, myself, although I've known Deerdra's.

May I ask again about have you guys contacted the artist of the picture?

If it has to be changed, find a larger image of Opera's avatar.

No she hasn't, AFAIK. I don't even know who she is, the guys from Fall Further added her, not us, so...

If it has to be changed, find a larger image of Opera's avatar.
lol, why? :p

Since Deirdra always struck me as the distant dreamer type. A competent leader no doubt but someone who would much rather be walking around aimlessly exploring some mountain than siting in a palace doing paperwork. Hence I always felt that he would spend the time that he is listening to the new sewage disposal plan or the proposal for the new sheep heading and shearing regulations daydreaming about stuff.

The old image (and for some reason your current avatar) look like that, distant and daydreams.

The other proposed images just look like a barbarian.

Well rather than a daydreamer I'd see Deirdra (and most Austrin) as people who don't fear to get dirty by crawling into some mud if it means they gotta see new things. Hence why I like the pic I suggested, where I don't think the character looks "barbarian", just not prettily dressed.

I'm not sure who are all these people who think Deirdra could possibly act as a male name. It is certainly not a common name, but I think you'll be very hard pressed to find any man with that name.

My expectations may be colored by knowing a girl way back in middle school named Deirdra, in addition to the Lady Deirdra Skye Gaian leader from Alpha Centauri.

I guess it depends very much on how you're pronouncing it. "Deerdra" sounds very feminine, but if you pronounce the "ei" more like a Latin "e" it could be both male or female. Problem is that with those fantasy names you can't really tell just from the spelling. (English being notoriously imprecise in terms of pronunciation doesn't exactly help either.)
Oh, and I didn't even know that Deirdra was a RL name at all.

I also like the distant impression of the current pic, I think it's better than the other pics posted up to now, but hopefully somebody will find one which is not the splitting image of Flauros' fraternal twin.

Edit: Ninjaed.

err ... nothing :D cfc would find use for delete post function - or at least for last post in thread

Deidra...is...a...girl...? No way...she looks like a male for sure...

don't worry you're not the first confused.

It is like..today one of yellow papers in Estoina caught attention with a fat headline:

"without knowing it myself, I had a sex half a year with a man. Am I gay or not??"

Personally I prefer the current pic. more importantly while we are on the topic of changing leader picture I think Sheelba's picture should be changed. She is supposed to be an orc and ugly, not like this.

That's the curse of the fantasy genre and many who voted yes seem to favour those absolute feminime characters, which may lead devs of this module to indulge them.

Won't happen. I don't care if the leader is feminine or not so long as the art is good (I never liked Mahala's art, frankly), and there won't be the addition of any skimpily clad warrior babes.

Sheelba is incredibly unlikely to be changed; She's one of the base leaders. Mahala was just changed because she had already been changed. I don't particularly want to change the art of any other FfH leaders.

For that matter... Why is she supposed to be ugly?

To change Deirdra's pic to a picture of a female doesn't mean she has to be scantily clad or overtly sexy (unless that's what her description called for). I just believe the current picture looks obviously male when the character is supposed to be female. It just seems odd to chose a male picture to represent a female character (unless that's what her description called for). That's my only reason for wanting it changed.

I prefer the old (current) one. Not every leader needs to look like Feyerl [sp?] the Svalt leader - real women actually do come in all shapes and sizes.

I never once questioned the gender of the portrait, even dissociated from the name. Obviously female, and beautiful IMHO.

That's understandable. I just don't think the picture is obviously male. In fact, I'd call it female.

Who is saying that every leader needs to look like Fearyl? I don't think that is what this thread is about.

Some people think the picture looks like a man and would prefer a female picture for a female character. No one said she has to be half naked or even attractive for that matter. Some like the current picture, some don't. That's it.

From Sheelba's description
Aethil grabbed the Orc child by the leg, holding it up to examine as the wrappings fell to the trampled earth. "A girl. Damned ugly, but definitely a girl. Turin, take it. Kill it, you'll feel better."

Okay. I admit that the "damned ugly" infant could become more attractive, but still it doesn't change the fact that she doesn't look like an orc.

I like Opera's proposed portrait.

And it always did confuse me why Sheelba's portrait looked clearly human when the lore says she should be an Orc.
