From Sheelba's description
Aethil grabbed the Orc child by the leg, holding it up to examine as the wrappings fell to the trampled earth. "A girl. Damned ugly, but definitely a girl. Turin, take it. Kill it, you'll feel better."

Okay. I admit that the "damned ugly" infant could become more attractive, but still it doesn't change the fact that she doesn't look like an orc.

A few points that should be made here...

  • Keep in mind, the Bannor at the time were in the midst of a long war against the Clan. A war with that level of hatred, between former brethren, inevitably breeds racism. She'd have been declared ugly just for being an orc, regardless of what she looks like.
  • Ugly infants can become attractive adults, and beautiful babies can grow up to become hideous.
  • Not all orcs have to be the stereotypical greenskin. In fact, I prefer that they aren't. Orcs in FfH are the result of Bhall's fall; They are those Bannor who were close to the fall, but not close enough to be dragged into hell. Just as there would have been many races in the area at the time (age of magic, world wide empire), there should be many races of orc.
  • The picture is used in FfH, FF, Orbis, and Wild Mana, as well as RifE. Yes, we changed Mahala's, but Mahala's art was the only existing FfH leader that I despised the art for; We shouldn't change any more, if just to stay consistent.

I like Opera's proposed portrait.

And it always did confuse me why Sheelba's portrait looked clearly human when the lore says she should be an Orc.

Honestly, to me she does look like an orc. Just not a brutish one, like you see in most fantasy.

She's more lithe, agile. Almost elven... Which goes back to the whole "there should be multiple orc racial groups" thing.

The whole Orc thing in the Fall From Heaven universe just confuses me. All Orc units and art is the stereotypical one, yet the Clan is supposed to be cursed Bannor. Wouldn't they look much more human? And if not, How and why? Sheelba always looked very human to me, and when I first read her Lore I just skimmed over and read "Raised by Bannor" so in my mind it made sense that she be human. After I read further and found she was an Orc raised by Bannor, it just confused me because she looks just like any other human, albeit more... strong (for lack of a better word)?

Well, the thing with the art is that it was not all made with FfH in mind. Most of it, I believe, came from the LotR mod. Which DOES have stereotypical spiky, greenskinned orcs.

I don't think she looks particularly human. Like I said, looks elvenish to me.

orc, looking like elf, raised by humans ... what next ? fairy, looking like dwarf, raised by lizards, being queen of Mechanos ? hmm ... that could be actually quite interesting leader both lore wise and strategy wise ... :D

Well... and all stereotypical orcs.... are male !!!

How would you know how an female orc should look like ?
maybe all female orc are like that.
or maybe only the prettier ?
or maybe only those that are not raised with orcish beauty concepts ?

I like Sheelba.

As for Deidra.
It really looks like a male. a vampire, a poet or an aristocrat ... or maybe a really masculine woman.
but those clothes are clearly 17-18thth century male, the hair-cut also and the face is male too. (at least teenager but maybe young adult. AFAIK, people have responsability very early. In the 16th -17th, 15 yo was sometimes tough old enough to inherit a fiefdom even if no beard !)

but if you want to say it's a female, feel free.

i never thought that that character on that pic could be a male, but now when i look closely on that picture, it maybe is really a male ... quite gay-ish although :D

/me changes his vote from No to Yes ...

Well, looking elvish, not like an actual elf. Looks like what you get if you cross an elf and an orc.
So does Sheelba have elvish heritage somewhere way back (as you said there are many races) or does her race of ork look that way because the environment her clan lived in?

or is she just mutant baby child?

3 options :
-she has a great great great something that was elfish
-only her orc's race all look more or less like this but with varying degrees of "prettiness" or ugliness in the same way as for humans, and all other orc races are more "stereotypical".
-all female orc look like this with varying degrees of "prettiness" or ugliness in the same way as for humans, only the male look brutish.

I've been searching for a good Deirdra picture. It sure is difficult to find something that has that right feel. I've found a few really good pictures (and a lot of good pictures for other leaders as well). Here's my favorate for deirdra so far

Not sure; to be honest the background unsurprisingly makes me think about Ljosalfar.

Deirdra is supposed to be wanderer, I could see her walking around anywhere, even in the Ljosalfar's forests, while on the other hand she doesn't fit my image of a Ljosalfar woman at all.

I think it's the best Deirdra pic so far.

Am I the only one who can't see the picture?

I agree. I was actually looking for a picture of someone who is wandering around in nature somewhere. I can't see Deirdra spending a lot of time in a city when there is a world to be explored.

Am I the only one who can't see the picture?

To bring up Tolkien, Orcs were originally corrupted elves. Chew on that.

And Tolkien's orcs weren't the traditional greenskin either. It's been a few years since I read the books, but if I remember correctly the movies are spot on (except for skipping Tom Bombadil).
