Deity Challenge #10 - Maya on pangaea

I was suppose to quit for the night a while ago but I couldn't resist to play until the famous T138 from Arabia challenge so here it is.
Spoiler :

4 own cities with Unis, 2 with Observatories & 2 puppets neither has a Uni and Istanbul is kicking the partisans so no beakers from the. 2 cities capable of running jungles are doing so. Damn Suleiman - I can understand if library & uni were destroyed on capture but 3 luxes around capital undone @T130s is just stupid.

And for those who're interested in the bpt numbers throughout. Palenque has currently 169 bpt & PT build in one turn.

T40 14 (1 city)
T50 17 (2)
T60 22 (3)
T70 33 (4)
T80 49 (4)
T90 74 (4)
T100 145 (4+1 puppet, 3 unis)
T110 192 (4+1, 4 unis)
T120 225 (4+1, 4 unis)
T130 324 (4+2, 4 unis, 1 obs)
T138 400 (4+2, 4 unis, 2 obs, 3 academies)

Minor update from T140.
Spoiler :
PT done, settled the 4th GS & spent almost the last dime on PSchool so now it's 472 bpt out which Palenque produces 230 bpt. I should catch Harun soon(ish) while others are hopefully longway behind. Harun went industrial T132 and me T138 which isn't too bad but really hoped I'd surpassed him by now.

Very impressive Grend.

Turn 172.

Spoiler :
Things are going well I think. Just finished Dynamite and Brandenburg Gate. I've got barracks + armory + gate in Cap and I am going to pop out of bunch of Artillery and probably start into Ghandi and The Celts because they are weaker. Spain and the Dutch are at war below me, and Spain is plotting against me, but my south east is easily defendable with a few artillary because of the mountains and jungle.

I've got 2 RA about to pop soon so that will help, and about to get the 2nd policy on Rationalism left side, so my Bpt should jump up pretty high in the next 20 turns, hopefully close to 400 since I've built a bunch of Trading posts.

The Celts went to war with me for at least 75 turns, and literally only physically attacked me once, just feeding me units for the entire game. Almost all of my CBs are 3 promotions in about to hit a 4th.

I feel this is very winnable atm. I'm friends with everyone right now and I'm the first person to hit artillery, so I think If I act quick I should be able to make short work of Ghandi and the Celts.

im sure my game is gonna have a lot of reloads.

Spoiler :
I stole a worker from Jakarta and India (who settled by Valetta--just as close to me as Edrine). I did 1-city to NC at t70 then i got Theology at t74. I settled 3 cities quickly before t80. I took Edrine and Vijayanagara in the 60s w/8 Atlatlists and 1 spear. I lost 1. I took a settler and eventually had 4 workers. I went liberty as i'd like to settle about 6-7 cities and just buy/build my aqueducts. plus because of baktuns i dont think i'll get that many GSs since the costs will go up. I finished Oracle on t86 and got my last Liberty policy. I used the finisher on GE for Hagia Sophia. t87 I enhanced my religion from Idols/Church Property/Asceticism to Peace Gardens/Itinerant Preachers. Only Monasteries were left and it doesnt get any happiness so i took Peace Gardens. 5 of my cities (one yet to settle but on its way) should get gardens if happy becomes a bigger issue. t88 got a Baktun for GS and settled it t89. I am a few turns from Education. I feel like Im about to get dogpiled though. India will probably come back for Vijay and William is for some reason bringing units through La Venta, presumably for me. Sully wont even discuss peace after i took that stupidly placed Edrine and Boudicca has 5 Cats and 1 warrior in his cap staring my city in the face. Boudicca and William are both friends with NO red texts other than Boudicca covets my land. but those Cats and William moving are certainly going to be joint DoW i think. grrr. this started off well but now it's going to get nasty.

Started playing again today. Feels wonderful :).

I will try the "no ranged masochistic challenge" in this map. This map is very gererous but it might require a few tries.

I will start out with tradition and later go Honor.

:crazyeye:c:)

Am I the only one who's fighting temptation to go OCC? It won't beat any record, but how many starts are suitable for this on deity? I am torn. :D

Ohh yes hihi. :) But you need the setting for it though right? Capitals can not be deleted etc.

Turn 89.

Education. Recently finished military tradition policy.

No ranged units. I will use no siege or flying units and ofc no ranged units. let's see if it works :)

I lost on turn 148 but it was fun. I could tell that I stayed with one city just too long but was afraid to expand too early. Somehow my diplomacy really got messed up and every one hated me.

Glad to see that peeps are willing to try various approaches; I think I'll stick with a more classic space race as it's come very clear that an army is very useful tool while pursuing domination and since I don't much have one I'll stay away from it.

T180
Spoiler :

I hit modern on T157 heading for plastics which I got T172 and the story of my game - lack of money resulted that I could only buy 2 RLabs instead of 4. I also left Sully with one city - the one which he clearly has a fixation for since he re-founded it and there nothing else than a minor oil spill (4) in the sea. Everyone else hated him, too.
Currently I have front row seat while Harun is trying to capture Edinburgh - the plan is to sneak in & take it if possible with the turn I DoW Boudicca or if the siege is prolonged I'll have few artillery to ease the ask. I don't really the Celtic cities but Harun is already far too massive even though friendly.
I'm also friendly with the Dutch & India but being an era or two behind I haven't got RAs with them. I have one with Harun and on last news flash few turns ago he was still 3 techs ahead of me. He is making 500+ gpt on std & 800+ gpt on GA so I've had to give up hopes for CS allies apart from one which India is competing with me.
Faithwise I'm destined to be a minor obscure one but I'll still get a GE for Hubble & one GS from it so it's not totally wasted.

I have few oil so I'll have Snoopy with few friends dropping bombs on Celts in few turns but that might the end of my pathetic military campaign. Harun prolly has more GGs than I have units besides I have enough aluminium to finish the game. I might have one or two slippery renegade nukes which may end up in Harun's territory purely by accident later if there's uranium around. His annoying missionaries clearly justifies some negligence from my part. Others are not threat even if they start marching towards me.

If/when Harun makes peace with the Celts my turn times will prolly be halved so I might finish the game today or tomorrow at latest.

Yes, I am the only one, or no, others are thinking about that too? :D

Peter, can you please use spoiler tags? For the sake of latecomers who prefer playing blind. :)

What was your policy order? You didn't go straight Honor, did you?

My game didn't progress as well as I hoped. What a trollish map.
I haven't gone OCC after all, but maybe I should have. Went for quick 4 cities instead, all settled before 50. Mayan archers are cheap, I didn't bother with early Construction and just built a bunch. They and brave lonely scout were more than enough to capture troll city and start pushing towards Sulei's capital. But then the obvious happened.
Boudica DoWed when I was moving towards Ankara and Istanbul and forced me to turn back. She didn't do any serious damage but was distracting enough to cause me miss Patronage by 1 turn. Very embarrassing rookie mistake. Suleiman had no obtainable workers and I really counted on them. While I was fighting on two fronts the few I had could do very little, thus the NC came kinda late (88 I believe), late Education, late Renaissance. Totally messed up Rationalism timing (unlocked in late 120's). I'm approaching Industrial and will be there in 142-143, but due to messed policies late game is not gonna be easy. Lack of cultural CS doesn't help too. Harun entered Industrial in 130, he's only couple of techs ahead, so my winning chances are still pretty decent, but on this map you can do much better. I'll probably replay. I like this crazy map a lot. :) I only wish Celts weren't spreading their stupid religion so fast. Who knows, maybe next time I'll get lucky and Boudica will leave Religious Texts to me. :D

Turn 108 on my "no ranged units masochistic challenge" :)

Still no ranged units. I defend with 2 knights and a pikeman in a citadel. Enough vs Suleiman, he is far behind in techs so far :).

I have not tried to attack any cities yet. I have too few units. I am so used to buid up a lot of knights that later becomes cavalry, and then add in artillery. But without those artillery, cities will be a challenege to take down for sure :)

^^^That seems very odd & probably something screwed with Steam. First things to do are restart Steam client & the game to check if you can then play the DLC civs.

One learns new stuff all time, excellent. Tbh I haven't had much of problems with this game though I started half a year late so the worst bugs were probably fixed at that time.
Occasionally the map starts getting corrupted which is followed by disappearing UI and forced restart of the game is the main proper software bug. This correlates highly with Steam updates, commercials & whatever they come up but it's really just an annoyance and sometimes a welcomed reminder of RL for those of us who still believe in it.

Yeah, the first few months were like a paid beta, it was weird :crazyeye: Early vanilla and current G&K don't even feel like the same game at all which is a good thing

I see you have almost 200 bpt at turn 108... Can you show a picture of your cities and maybe give a few comments on builiding order in your cities and what you have rushed with gold.

I am usually around 100 bpt at turn 100 if everything goes well. So im thinking that you have to rush food builiding as well as lib/uni etc to reach that high bpt so early.
