Deity Challenge 7 - Montezuma-Pangea

Holy balls I actually did it. Turn 257 Domination.

Not as fast as some of the others but a win is a win! I need a break.

I can give more details if needed but I just wanted to celebrate my victory :p

Nice, well done Light Cleric! T257 win is pretty good result on a map like this.

I haven't yet finished this. Felt like I needed to take a break and started challenge #8.

Well, my game didn't turn out too well... :D I am much rustier than I thought.

Spoiler :
Was all over the place, chilling and doing random stuff when Rome DoWed around turn 30. I held off just fine with two jags and an archer and then (randomly, again) decided to settle second city not immediately in Caesar's face but like 5 inches from it on flat land, of course, having no defenders anywhere near the spot. Go figure. For some unexplainable reason it didn't even occur to me he could and would gladly go after that city. With ballistas. :crazyeye: And if that's not enough, the moment I saw ballistas, I started looking for potential iron tiles having my mind set on pillaging them asap. :D

The game is not completely lost but it will be very tough to recover and currently I'm not sharp enough to execute this successfully. Gonna take a shot at Austrian map before trying to salvage this one, I guess. :crazyeye:

Sadly, no, I'm waiting on Logitech to send my replacement headset back. It's a wireless one and the mini-USB port shorted out so I couldn't charge it :( but at least it had a warranty :)
I'm trying to be a man of my word and I did promise to nag. So... After you get a new headset, will we be lucky to see some recordings? :D

I would like to do some :P I considered the Arabia one but I'm too impatient to wait for it, plus I don't have a lot of experience with large maps or with Arabia tbh :p

Nag, nag, nag... Arabia is looking tempting. Personally I don't like playing large maps - too time consuming, but will gladly watch others playing. :)

BTW, second try on this map - no go. So I pass.

Spoiler :
Much better start, fast 4 cities, NC and stuff. Early DoF with Rome (was ecstatic about this one, they're obvious a huge early threat). 15 turns later double DoW by Rome+Persia. Again, could defend myself to the extent, but catching up later would have been extremely painful.

I don't understand how this is working out for you guys. Rome DoW me as soon as I settle 2nd city in lower right, then as soon as I gear up to take out his Cap Darius turns around and DoW me. Then it's just a ping pong of defending till eventually I'm dead.

What did you guys do to prevent Darius from DoW you as soon as you go for Rome? And what turn did you make an attempt at Rome? I can't seem to figure anything out that will allow me to push through all the Ballistas.

Also where are you guys getting all the iron for the swordsman? I only found one iron spot and it's only 2. The spot at SW under Rome.

Personally I forced Rome to stay to the north by harassing his Settlers so he and Darius would get into it. Sometimes you get maps like this where you really have to use the AI against itself or, like you said, you get stuck in a ping pong of death because of your location on the map. Try and pay Austria or Rome to DoW Persia, even if it costs you a good bit, because Austria can give Persia a good bit of trouble.

Where did you guys get iron? There is exactly zero iron around us except for the pot below Rome and it's only 2 iron. I checked all city states and they didn't have any, and I couldn't trade any away from anyone because they use theirs up immediately.

I settled down there and used that 2 Iron on a pair of sword Jags. I didn't really use Iron much that game until I pushed to Pasaragade which had two sources of 2 when I hit Steel. The Jags showed their strength much more when I got to Muskets etc.
