I'm sure that many of you, like myself, have thought that deserts look a little bit 'empty' and dull.....especially large areas of desert.
So here are some sand dunes..... :)
(Based on Snoopy's excellent terrain of course ;) )

....and here is the zip file, which only contains the xdgc, xdgp and the xdpc terrain files.
Just place these into the Art\Terrain folder, overwriting the current ones (remember to make copies first, so that you can revert to them should you wish to).

I also recommend to those of you with the PTW editor to not allow cities to be built on deserts, for the following reasons:-
* it's more realistic
* it makes the map look better with large areas left 'empty'
* it stops roads and railways from covering the entire map
* Civ3 colonies finally have a use
(I also suggest doing the same thing with tundra, for the same reasons)

and the rocks in the grassland, where dey come from? What else have you changed in that SS?

oh yeah, the dunes, they look great. Permission to use in MTG Mod?

GIDustin

Of course you may use them.
As I always say with all the things I post....
...."Once you have downloaded them, they are yours". :D

I don't think that I have changed anything else.
And I'm afraid that I don't know who originally created the 'grassland rocks'....but my thanks to whoever did. They look nice. :goodjob:

Here are the 'grassland rocks'....

Cordy made those rocks, they are a convertion from the civ2 mountains.

I tried these dunes and like them. There's a color mis-match though on my coastal areas because the coast water color you use is different from mine causing squares in my water. I use snoopy or womok's watercolor mod. I included the rocks on grassland mod which is excellent. I never used to use the original "grassland bonus" terrain in my maps because those dumb-looking dots were so lame.

Thanks for the info Yoda....and thanks to Cordy for the 'grassland rocks'. :)

Sounds painful! See a doctor. :lol:

Seriously though, I don't have this problem, as you can see....

I wonder if it is because one of us is using an older version of Snoopy's terrain, and the other one is using a newer version with different palette? (although which is which I have no idea).

Try this....it's a bundle of ALL the Snoopy tiles I have been using (including water tiles), with the sand dunes added.....

WO HO!!!! The dunes are done, fantastic Kryten! :D :D [dance] ... and they are looking just great as usual :D :goodjob:

Im already use the lil trick you mention not to allow cities in these areas, but there are a hole on the rules concerning the tundras. If there are forest on a tundra, they can build a citiy on it as forest allows it. I hope there will be a way to get around this later.

Simple solution -> don't allow cities to be built on forests. :D
(Think about it. What's the first thing you must do if you want to build a city in a forest in the real world?....
.....It's cut down the trees to make space. ;) )

If you do this you shouldn't be able to build cities in jungle either... Which maybe you shouldn't be, after all. (But what about Congo? Did they clear the jungle before building Kinshasa and Kisangani? :hmm: )

Yes, why not.... I dont have a prob doing that with the jungles either. Will slow the game down though.
