DGIT # 2-Krafty Koreans

This will be short, I have to go to work.

Good turns SpikeIt, I'm glad my decision to go to war did not backfire. More to come later today or tomorrow.

Alerum68, take your time, we'll wait for Tuesday if need be.

Is 1.20 even compatible with 1.15b games? They changed the tech tree slightly in 1.20. I would think this could cause problems. We may at least want to wait until people chime in with any issues.

CIVILIZATION III: CONQUESTS V1.20 DOES NOT SUPPORT SAVE GAMES FROM PRE-V1.20 VERSIONS.

Well, I guess that answers that!

Does this mean we'll all have to keep off of the new patch until we finish this game?
That's terrible.
That's horrendous.
That's a crime against humanity.
:cry:

Yup. Looks to be so. Normally that would be annoying, but if looking at the patch thread in the Conquests forum is any indication, it looks like there are several problems with the patch. And really the patch only corrects 2 or 3 items over 1.15b. Just don't start any new SG's until you complete the ones you're in. That way you can patch in between. :p By then they should have the patch corrected too, I imagine.

I hate it when patches cause new problems. Oh well, can't complain. Just gotta keep thinkin about getting up to space.....

Hey guys, back in town. Reading the post, and I really think we should keep playing with the current version... I read alot of SG's where they changed in the middle of a game, and it screwed things up pretty badly. Besides, full release is coming out shortly.;) So am I up still? If so, I'll DL the save tommorow and post tommorow night.

Yup. You're still up. Hope your trip went well. I agree about the versions. Even with the full version I doubt we'll be able to upgrade. With some of the changes, I rather doubt old saves will be valid in the new version.

ANARCHY!!!!! KILL!!! RAPE!! PILLAGE!!! DESTROY THE MONGOLS!

Alrighty then. Check the cities, to make sure no ones pissy, and take a quick look around.

Seoul may loose a citizen because of anarchy. MM so we still have some sci going, and no one will riot. 3 turns of this?! Dear god.

Mongols will give us their 3 smaller cities in exchange for peace. Pass up on it. Let me play with your Capitol a bit and you'll give me all of them.;)

Byz is still backwards, and Sumeria still has no iron or horses.

Turn 1 (710AD) - No Builds, starve some new cities down. Missed Washington and it gets alot of food, but doesn't grow. Nothing built. Send a MDI towards Korea, and send a galley westward, and send our other galley a bit south before sending him east. Move a stack of combined arms towards Karakorum, and send my knights towards Karkorum, where a great battle is about to begin.
US VS Them
vet MDI vs vet Ancient cav - MDI wins half health
vet MDI vs vet Spearman - Spearman wins, and looses one health.
vet MDI vs vet spearman - MDI wins, notta scratch
vet MDI vs reg spear - dies but redlines spear
reg pikeman vs reg spear (hurt) - Dies and spear promotes! OUCH!

Move rest of our forces towards their capitol.
Nothing to do with our cities but make sure they don't riot.

IBT - Summerian archers enter our land. Don't ask them to leave, because we have a galley in their waters.

Turn 2 (720AD)
vet knight vs vet spear - knight looses 1
vet mdi vs vet spear - mdi wins - 1
vet MDI vs vet ancient cav - cav wins - 1
vet knight vs vet ancient cav -1 - vet knight is redlined, but marches into Karakorum, victorious! And We now control The Statue of Zeus!
Move our forces northeast, leaving behind some injured units to hold Karakorum.

IBT - Summerians go deeper into our land, and the anarchy ends! Choose Monarchy until the wars end.
Lost our Galley.:(

Turn 3 (730AD)
Stop all our cities from shrinking, and MM to get the best out of our current set up. We may want to do some worker adjustments.
Set Karakorum to Library to get the horses and ivory. Move all units ever northward!
Invention in 5, with 14gpt.
Forest chop in Houston will build Library next turn.
Mongols still will only give us one of their three small cities for peace.

IBT -
New York Pikeman --> Courthouse
Philadelphia Worker --> Courthouse (upgrade spearman to Pikeman)
Hovd Worker --> Courthouse (upgrade another spear to pike)
Miami Library --> Courthouse

Turn 4 (740AD)
Continue moving troops north. Next turn Kazan is ours. No battles to report.

IBT -
Summerians moving archers around.
Namp'o Temple -- > Knight
Hyangsan Pikeman --> Knight

Turn 5 (750AD)
The Siege of Kazan:
US THEM
vet knight vs reg spear - knight is redlined and retreats
vet knight vs reg spear - knight kills spear without taking harm.
vet knight vs reg spear - 1 - Same as before. We control Kazan!!

Set Kazan to build a courthouse.

IBT - Kazan starves, Karakorum is down to 1 citizen, with workers clearing marshland.
Mongolian Archer appears on a mountian near our troops then just disappears. YEY! First time seeing the disapearing unit.;)

Turn 6 (760AD)
MDI stack enters Ulaanbaatar, and Knight stack moves into Dalandzadgad. Both those cities will have to be renamed when we take them.
Leave some MDI and a knight in Kazan to heal up a turn.
Shuffle around some Pikeman to get more units around in the field, leaving our backfield, defended, just not as heavily as before.
Our Galley moves eastward. Should hit something fairly soon.

IBT - Seoul Marketplace --> Pikeman (Can build it in 2 turns)
Inch'on Knight -- > Knight
Chicago Library --> Courthouse
Get some culture, and loose our only galley.

Turn 7 (770AD)
The Battle of Dalandzadgad (soon to be called Dalangrad, or something like it)
vet knight vs reg spear - Knight wins, looses half his HPs and takes Dalangrad)

The Sacking of Ulaanbaatar (Soon to be Ulanberg)
vet MDI vs vet spear - MDI wins, no health lost.
vet MDI vs reg spear - wins, loosing 1 hp
vet MDI vs reg spear - wins, but is redlined.
Ulanberg is ours! Set it to Pikeman
AND we have a land bridge connecting us to the Byz mainland. Awesome!
Move our forces to destroy the remaining Mongolian forces. We need a RoP with Byz to destroy them though.
They'll give us Erdenet or Choybalsan, but not both. Erdenet is the city we need the RoP to take out.
Turn sci slider down. Invention next turn.

IBT - We learned Invention and got a Sci Great Leader!!!! What to build, what to build.;)
Set next tech to Gunpowder in 11, gaining 22 gpt. We can get it one turn quicker but cut GPT down to 11, and we'll need that for upgrading.
Change Wonsan from Knights Templar to Leo's.
P'yongyang Knight --> Knight
Boston Library --> Knight
Cheju Knight --> Knight
Get a warning that for Kaesong to grow we'll have to switch from Marketplace to Aquaeduct. So I switch it.

Turn 8 (780AD)
Move units northward, and make sure to cancel all long orders ( OR as many as I can) for the next player. Sorry if I slipped with a few, but didn't want to worry about moving when I had the war going on. Contact Monogolia, and they don't want to give both cities for peace. I think our only option is to take all but Erdenet, and let them try and survive up there. We can finish them off when we take Byz next.

IBT - Seoul Pikeman -- > Pikeman
All the Mongols cities starve down to pop of 1, ready for Korean control.

Turn 9(790AD) -
Move Pikeman in Seoul in a chain, trying to get it moved as far as possible.
Move our stacks of MDI and Knights towards Mandalgovi.

Vet Knight vs reg spear - OUCH! Redlined and retreated
Vet Knight vs reg spear - Redline spear, but Knight Dies. Damn the RNG.

IBT - Chicago gets some culture and and a Byz Dromon wants to see what happened to Mongolia.

Turn 10 (800AD)
The damn spears of Mandalgovi may have killed some of our Knights, but they shall PAY!

The Revenge of the Templar.
vet Knight vs Vet Spear - In a LONG Battle our Knight finally wins, lossing half its forces.
vet Knight vs reg spear - Knight wins, no health lost.
vet Knight vs reg spear - Knight wins, and takes Mandalgovi. Set it to Library.

Mongolia is now 2 cities. Erdenet became their new capitol, and that's a barren wasteland up in the far north. They'll give us their last real city for peace. I think we sohuld do that, and leave them only Erdenet to languish in. I didn't do it because I thought we should talk about it. We have that great leader which we can use for whatever. \

We're in monarchy so nows the time to destroy Byz and Summer, or at least get them down to city states like Mongolia. Byz is my first choice because Summer has no Iron. Byz does.

Either way we have to start saving some money for upgrading to Mustketman. One per a city, 2 per a border town, and we're good until the modern ages on defense, and we can build up infastructure, which we have none to speak off.

Libs or Temples are needed in all the new cities to take advantage of the land. We have a ton of open space that we need to start using.

Peace or war, Peace or war?;) either way, we need to build some Galleys and met some people.

Save and Pic will follow in next post.

And here's the save.

Well done. [dance] A Korean Mongolia looks very nice! And I like our new path to the Byzantines. Excellent. Although I did not seem to read about any further trials of our Trebuchet, er, Korean Space Launcer v1.0. :crazyeye:

Great pickup of the SGL. Wow! What would best benefit our great nation? Leo's is nice, but if we can get it without using the SGL, even better. How about for moving our palace? Centralizing our palace will help with our space race and make our nation even more powerful. (As an aside, can an MGL rush build a palace - I know it can rush a forbidden palace).

As for our Mongolian war... I say we should take Choybalsan. It will cut off Sumeria from their iron in Kisurra, if they have even connected it yet. Heh, we can cut off any road peacefully... And then peace with the Mongols is fine for now. We'll just have to be careful of our Mongolian holdings as with the Mongols still around, flips are always possible. As an alternative, we could always ally with the Byzantines and let them finish off the Mongols in the north. :evil:

Next up... the Sumerians. It looks like we need to get some troops out of there before we declare (do we have a ROP still?). Build a few stacks and eliminate Hannibal. Build some more trebuchets to help smash those Ekidus. With some trebs, we may be able to avoid kicking off the Sumerian GA until its too late. Lets make sure to connect our roads to the Byzantines in the west for trade in the mean time.

And lets pump some more workers to help with the buildup of our core. Beyond roads and some culture, I'm not too concerned about strengthening our new Mongolian holdings. (New New Korea, right?) They will forever be pretty corrupt.

Beyond gunpowder, if we don't think we can pick up much more techs from our current neighbors, we may want to think about heading up the tech path toward Democracy and Navigation. We will need new contacts, and our current troops will likely make quick work of our continent. I doubt cavalry will be necessary.

:goodjob:

NP, SmellinCoffee. You probably want to wait a day or two at least to let others chime in on what to do with the SGL at least. I'm sure there will be varying opinions.

Using the SGL on Leo's would be a waste IMHO. We should use it for Bachs, or something that will benfit each city, not just the nation as a whole. Before we use it, we need to figure out which ones we'll have coming soon, and go from there.

Choybalsan is ours, if we take it by force, or by peaceful means. I really think it would be better to leave Mongolia alive, as that one far north city they have. They'll never be a threat again, but it will allow us to keep the tech equation in our favor. Let Byz destroy them if they feel the need, but I really think we should end the war peacefully, take Choybalsan, and turn towards Byz. I think they're going to be a larger threat in 20 turns then Summeria will be. Summeria still has no Iron, and are almost engulfed by us now. We do have an RoP going with them, but it's 20 turns are up, and we can end it anytime of our choice. Now is WAY to soon though. We still need to build up some more forces, and get a library in every true Korean city, or else we'll never get to space.

As for research, wait til we contact all the civs before we go after Education. Once we reach them all, we'll know if it's worth limiting our tech pace to keep The GL, or to keep self-research up.

We need 570 gold to upgrade all our spears to pikeman. We'll need that again, plus some to upgrade them to Musketman.

This game just got a whole lot easier me thinks.

You're right. I always love to nab Leo's but more important is our space goal. Or, since our map is laid out as is, happiness. Bach's would be great, though its a ways off without researching through Education first. Is Sistine's still out there? Double effect cathedrals would be nice as well. There is also Copernicus lurking a bit later on to help with science. All are probably better choices than Leo's given our needs.

And thanks for correcting on Choybalsan. Take it in settling for peace. That sounds like the best course of action.

And, doh! I did forget about our Great Library. Let's get those galleys sinking, er sailing. Full steam ahead on Gunpowder, Chemistry, and Metallurgy (Hwacha's). ( Note to self, keep two Korean SG's straight in head. )

As for the upgrades. I don't think we really need to upgrade all of our spears. We don't have any real threats at this point. Just keep the borders upgraded and protected. I'd rather use the gold to rush some infrastructure in our core. Limited upgrades as needed.

As for the next target, I'd still prefer to attack Sumeria. While the Byzantines are the greater threat, I really don't think much of either civ. Personally I don't really care if we ever attack the Byzantines since they are so far north and can be contained across that thin land bridge. But the Sumerians hold potentially valuable land for us with a location that can produce some productive cities. To me, this is the value of our wars - to increase our strength so we can get to space.

Either way, if we want it, the continent is ours.

Your right about Summeria. I was thinking about controling our whole contient, but if we control 2/3rds, and leave Byz a bit of land up north, we can take that way anyway we want. Summeria does have a wide border with us. Either way, we should probably get more of a troop build up. Mongolia was so easy because of the way they were set up... almost in a straight line, with one city falling after the next. Maybe 20 or so Knights, and they'll be ours.

Sounds good to me. We're going for the latter half of the tech tree? That's weird. I'm playing in another SG, as Britain. My last turn that I played (about to post it) I was pursuing the bottom, too. I think I'm going to try to find a peacenik SG to play in next time. :lol:
