Always intended to pre-order. Finally got around to it with the GMG the other day.
Looking forward playing Maori in release day. Had applied to take the day off (it's on the Friday here in NZ) hopefully workload will allow it. (My mind won't be on the job anyway I says).

I finally pre-ordered Monday night. It was my birthday and I was A) making sure nobody surprised me by ordering it for me (which would have been a miracle) and B) seeing if I got any gifts of cash that I could use to buy it with (I did).

I went back and checked my confirmation email to see if I got the discount, only to discover that I actually purchased it Saturday night because that's when we had my birthday party. Quite a lot happened this weekend for me (my Pats won their 6th Super Bowl!), so my timeline memory is all askew.

We are not talking that much money to begin with.
Honestly, I have no problem paying full price but I miss hard copies.

Yes, we are already cloudy and ethereal, to hold something is to own something.
I am lucky in having enough that I can just get it. I do not play much else, this game has saved me so much money, but holding it would be nice

The last one I bought was Civ V Gods and Kings.
The guy at GameStop told me it was useless to buy this.
Told me to just go online and buy it digitally and save some money
He told me that it won't run without internet and steam.
I bought the hard copy anyway that day.
They didn't go out of business but they have closed a few stores since that day.

GMG should send you an email with the code. You simply go to Steam and register it there. Then it will download as DLC from Steam.

But you can expect it in enough time to preload, usually, so don't think you have to use Steam for that option.

You will get an email with the code a little before or around the time of release. From GMG:

How do I activate a game on Steam?
Manual steps to redeem:

1. Create or Sign in to your Existing Steam account.
2. In the bottom left hand corner of the client is a "+ Add a game..." button, click this.
3. Select "Activate a product on Steam".
4. Paste in the product activation key you received from GMG.
5. After a couple of minutes Steam will authenticate the code.
6. Click on "Library". You should see you game in the Library.
7. Click on your game and select "install" to start your download.
