Direct correlation between CFCing and maturity?

This just in - CFC posters seem to not be, I repeat not be, more mature than their average counterparts. It turns out CFC posters only receive the most exceptional moderation. The first seeds of immaturity, or an immature thread, finds a lock and its existence is denied. To recap: CFC posters' maturity levels rank similar to the average internet user's. I am Azadre, and this is the CFC Beat.
I agree, IMHO opinion one of the most immature things that you can do, is to say (or convey) that you are "smart" in comparison with other people. And as many past polls (for instance the "What are you most proud about yourself" poll) have shown, the majority of vocal CFC goers believe they are smart, and of course that must mean they feel "smart" in comparison with some body else, most likely the "average" person.

However I seriously doubt the average of people here are more intelligent, they're probably more knowledgable, but knowledge and intelligence are 2 totally different things. Your born with intelligence, you can't change that, you either reach a high percentage of your intelligence potential or you don't, knowledge simply helps you to unlock your potential intelligence more actively

i'm 14 and i'm much smarter than my peers, i guess i'm more mature too

Based on the general level of posting here (all of CFC), no. There are a lot of people who think that they are mature, though. (I don't include myself in this category since I know that growing old is manditory, growing up is not. I refuse to grow up.)

I happen to be the most mature 15 year old that ever existed. I'm so mature I throw around words like "nevertheless", "thus", "ergo", and even "aforementioned" all the time without even thinking of it. I talk with MIT professors I know on the conditions of their microphone arrays, and then give the professors' wives marriage advice. It's been coming to the point where I don't even know why I have friends my own age anyway. I've already recieved honorary permanent MENSA acceptance and I just happen to be the secret puppetmaster of my towns government, but really those are no accomplishments for someone like me. People regularly, when they try to insult me, give up halfway, realize their own worth (which is usually nothig compared to mine), and nip off to kill themselves or some form of self-mutilation which has no impact on my mature, desensitized personality. I've already begun to take over CFC with my mind-warpingly mature arguments to Thunderfall.

But that's just me.

That you find this worthy of mention doesn't exactly suggest either a high degree of maturity or a well-developed vocabulary.

I believe his post was supposed to come off sarcastic. If not... :crazyeye:

I won't say that I find CFC exceptionnally mature, but I do say that the level of discussion is rather better than the overwhelming majority of fora on Internet. Though it says just as much about the crap quality of this majority, as the good level of CFC.

I still see three main reasons of this level :

1) The most important : mods here are no joke. Trust me, if we're spared of huge amount of spam, it's first and foremost because these threads are closed on sight. I have another "main base forum" out there, and though I love it and there IS a capable team of moderators, there is still bountiful of spam threads and "discussions" that looks rather like an IRC chatroom... Let me tell you that strict moderation is a blessing.

2) Civ games tends to attract rather older players than, let's say, Diablo II, and also it's a game that ask for reflexion and patience rather than reflex and action. It doesn't mean that Civers are necessarily much more intelligent, but they tend to be more quiet, and to take more time to think, on a statistic scale.

3) As it's an international forum, people here are often fluent in at least two langage. This means both a certain level of education, and a certain open-mindedness. It's probably the smallest factor, but it's still in.

You sound nearly a little intelligent, maybe when I take over the world I'll make you an advisor perhaps, and you can have a free dog house to live in, instead of sleeping out with the rest of the slaves :p :king:

 Syterion, you're hilarious. You make it sound like you're eligible to take over the world, and you make "thus" seem extremely witty. I hope to God (and I'm pretty sure) that you were joking, because if you weren't, I would get a semi-automatic rifle, jump on top of a skyscraper and kill myself because the world is so arrogant,

I don't think he was joking. I mean, damn, anyone who even heard of the word 'ergo' before that Matrix movie has got to be a genius.

I only know it because I found it hilarious that the writers were that pseudo-intelligent. And they used it multiple times in one monologue.

(Now, if you can refute that last statement, then you're a freak.)

Yeah, I remember the MTV Movie Awards(Or something like that, I can't remember) with a hosting Justin Timberlake spoofing the Matrix.(I especially remember it because I don't have Cable yet somehow I saw it) And then near the end there was Will Ferrell spoofing someone (The Architect?) telling him something, using "ergo" maybe 7 times. When Justin wasn't convinced, he said, "But... ergo" or something to that extent.

I know the description I just gave was abominable, but it was funny on TV.

Oh, and that post was in all seriousness. I don't know why anyone would take it as sarcastic. Someone as mature as me has no time for jokes.

I don't see any correlation between maturity and posting on CFC.

Some posters in here are more mature than others, that's true, however there are also immature people ; I'm actually an excellent example of this. Actually, I'm a lot more immature on CFC then in real life.

On the subject of freaks and the Matrix, a friend of mine memorized the entire dialogue of the first Matrix movie.

Have you called him out on that, and made him recite them?

Syterion: I was gonna say that, but I felt I'd appear stupid saying that I saw the introduction to the MTV Movie Awards. But you are so mature, you don't even lie!!

We watched the movie together - he said the lines just before the actors did.

(Yes, I realize this means that perhaps he couldn't have recited the whole thing without the visual cues of the movie, but it's still damn freaky.)
