Direct correlation between CFCing and maturity?

That's easier than memorization-He had visual cues and he did not have to remember the scene changes, which makes it a lot easier.

@cgannon64-One as mature as me does not take shame in what happened in one's immature past. One accepts it and soldiers on, drawing on the experience as it is fit.

You have much to learn.

I think there are many factors.

1. Civilization is a more intellectual game. Requiring much more thought, time, and effort than lets say Grand Theft Auto. This leads to us having people with usually above average intelligence levels.

2. The moderators here are excelent. They will not accept anything that is inappropriate. This allows for a family friendly environment, an uncommon element on message boards. Thus disallowing a lot of the immaturity that accompains other message boards.

3. In Off Topic and other forums the discussion usually deals with important and serious issues. Those who care enough about them at that young of an age, tend to be more mature than they other boards where they talk about current fads of the time.

That is my two cents.

I think that it's mainly because either:
A) Most of teh less mature people prefer mindless shoot-em-up games, while more inteligent people tend to prefer strategy games, like civ.
Or B) Most of the imature people tend to get banned by the modertors really, really fast on this site. :D

CFC is a great way to chronicle my maturity - or immaturity. I registered just beofre I entered high school. I used to post exclusively in Site Feedback or Civ3 back in August 2002. Then I slowly deviated away until September 2003, when I pretty much cut off all links to that section. If I read back on my posts, I can see an enthusiasm and like for the game and for life. Now I seem to enjoy injecting a depressing tone to ever message I write - chronicling my unfortunante descent.

it seems like all posters have the maturity of someone just out of college, those older usually act less mature, and those younger usually act more mature, obviously there are pltny of exceptions to this rule.
If this is true there is a perfectly logical explanation explanation for it. When you are younger you tend not to want to be perceived as immature, especially around a group of people who are generally older than you. When you are older you tend to have a lot of responabilities in real life and have to be serious most of the time. Something as unimportant as an internet forum provides a rare opportinity to not be so serious and perhaps to enjoy making a bit of an ass of yourself.

Could it be that Perfection secretly threatens every new member telling them to be mature or else?
No, I just threaten folk to bow down worship me or be sent to the mines when the revolution comes.

I agree, IMHO opinion one of the most immature things that you can do, is to say (or convey) that you are "smart" in comparison with other people. And as many past polls (for instance the "What are you most proud about yourself" poll) have shown, the majority of vocal CFC goers believe they are smart, and of course that must mean they feel "smart" in comparison with some body else, most likely the "average" person.

However I seriously doubt the average of people here are more intelligent, they're probably more knowledgable, but knowledge and intelligence are 2 totally different things. Your born with intelligence, you can't change that, you either reach a high percentage of your intelligence potential or you don't, knowledge simply helps you to unlock your potential intelligence more actively
I would say that they are more intelligent as civilization is more strategy and not an action game and thus it is likely that people that have a knack for it (intelligent folk) would tend to like it better.

However, given the self-engrandising and competetive nature of teenage boys (Me excluded) I would say that this distinction is minimal.

On the third hand, posting in a forum with adults does force immature to act mature.

If only guys saw some of the rather interesting PMs the moderators get...;)

Wow, after five years of internet foruming I've finally posted something that one person considers worthwhile.

And it's a token insult. There's a message there somewhere... :mischief:

I think good moderation has a lot to do with it, and also the fact that people aspiring to maturity are the ones commenting on how mature folks here are.

@Eyrei, any chance we'll ever get to see a names-erased-to-protect-the-guilty version of some of those PMs? :yeah:

I'm dumb as a boot and I still play civ. And post here as well. See! And if you play videogames, how mature can you be :).

I agree with CIVPhilzilla. This is one of the most pleasant boards I've ever read. Thanks to the moderators and users. Many game related BBS have a lot more irrelevant posts and it's not uncommon to see five people asking the same question about the game on a same page. A question that's answered in the manual.

I support this request. :)
I really like to know what sorts of inmature PM's mods have to handle.

if we all would be mature we wouldn't be sitting on the pc 5 hours in a row
neh really. when i arrived here i was a spunky kid with a lot of stupid things coming out.but i maturised so i could still flame poeple without getting banned ;) (j/k)
i think poeple get matured becuase others are:monkey see-monkey do.

Even if their posts are not inappropriate, there are some immature posters on CFC. However, the vast majority are not immature, and that comes most likely from the moderation, and the fact that, as Tomoyo said, immature children don't play Civ.

Many times, I've heard that "even the younger posters seem to be more mature",

(that was my actual reaction, but I'm apparently expected to lengthen my post to ten characters, so this does the trick. Oh, and...)
