What is Nihilism? Is it disbelief in life? Disbelief in religion? What is it all about?

Perhaps a nihilist could fill me in on this dilemma.

Nihilism is a philosophical position which argues that the world, and especially human existence, is without objective meaning, purpose, comprehensible truth, or essential value. Nihilists generally believe all of the following: There is no reasonable proof of the existence of a higher ruler or creator, a "true morality" is unknown, and secular ethics are impossible; therefore, life has no truth, and no action is known to be preferable to any other.

Thats exactly what I believe. Hmm...I guess I'm a nhilistic athesit social democrat then....intreasting.

Nihilism is what I like to call, what Marvin the Paranoid Android believes/is programed.

I see everybody has presented the good side of nihilism. Well here's the bad side:

Nihilists are people who complain about everything, the world, the society they live in etc without proposing ways to make it better.
They just complain.

Their not nihilists, they are complainists. They follow the dark side of nihilism. *heavy darth vader like breathing noises, cue Imperial March music*

Nihilism: "Everything sucks. Not that doing anything will make it better."

By the most liberal definitions, I'm a nihilist - I don't think there are any absolute values, or that life has any intrinsic "meaning".

I don't think secular ethics is impossible, however - indeed I say it's a matter of everyday experience that they are possible. Morality is part of humans' psychological make-up.
