dl1 -- The Kings of Unfair

Ok. This is an interesting map layout. It turns out that Bismarck is our nearest neighbor. We had a lot of fog around our capital so I sent our new warrior looking around. He found a good spot but was eaten by lions shortly thereafter. I've since sent out an unescorted settler who can settle near the lake next turn (yeah it doesn't grab both food specials but it gets a ton of river tiles which more than makes up for it). Our capital can turn out a few more warriors/chariots while it grows to the happy cap. Then we can decide whether we want to rush Bismarck or not... I'm not a big fan of settling north given the current layout:

I think SE of the wheat is a nice spot with 8 river tiles. We've finished researching masonry and the wheel, although bronze working was probably a better tech to research next rather than pottery

He can curse the RNGod for putting him next to us  He's industrious so he may make a bunch of wonders for us to capture as well.

Very true. In that case is it worth rushing him? Maybe we should expand peacefully and attack Bismark once he's got a bigger stash of wonders.

Speaking of wonders are we going to try for any of our own?

Got it by the way, I should be able to play and report in about 24 hours.

If we have Mysticism to add to Masonry and stone, then the 'Henge is a pretty good starter wonder. If we don't have Mysticism than the Great Wall is always fun.

Stonehenge is nice for us, but I don't think we'll beable to build it in time. We need to grab some better land (and finish scouting!) so I don't really like it. GW is a little better since it's lower on the priority list but.... if we're going to rush, it's not worth building since we'll have an army anyways.

so I think the question is if we're going to rush or not. I'm ok either way.

i agree, I was thinking north because it looked like there was just ocean surrounding us. I say rush him before he can place some cities in realy crappy positions

Not much to report.
The above picture tells the most.
Finished pottery, started BW 3 turns to go.
Found Darius way up north.
I guess bronze will dictate where we settle next.
The Great Wall is only going to keep the Barbs out, not Boudicca so I'm all for having an army.

I agree bronze should decide on the next city, looking good otherwise.

Full of incident and discovery.

Finished the Great Wall, trained up a worker and a garrison warrior for Amsterdam and with nothing else of any real importance for the town to do started on the Pyramids figuring that chopping those hillside forests and the stone would do the trick.

Utrecht grew to three, trained a warrior and is now working on a settler, also helped out by hillside forests. The warrior headed off to the north and east of the inland sea to see what he could see.

The warrior in the west busted the barb camp, staying well away from the bears, who ate a visiting scout (couldn't see the flag before he got et),

and the warrior headed back to Utrecht for guard duty while the scout explored the dead ground between us and the Germans. Not much out that way except for the south which has some green bits but little else.

Bronze Working came in and we have copper just out of bounds of Utrecht, and another source on the neck between the Inland Sea and the heart of darkness. Science is now being spent on Writing. And the civic changed to Slavery.

The scout in the far north walked right in between two yokels

The tidy little empire has pretty much filled the gap between the ocean and the Inland Sea

And the area to the east and north clearly holds some promise. I marked a possible location for the settler that promises much richness. But if preferred she could settle down a little closer to home and claim the copper immediately. I just didn't see a really compelling location though that would give us plenty of room for a fourth city up on the northern coastline somewhere.

There is another location somewhere in that fog to the west as well as you can see a hint of jewels in the jungle.

A rather noce spot to be in. As near as I can tell everything to the east will be ours for the taking, and promises to to hold far more goodness than the drylands to the west.

Didn't do much about the military as we have Bismarck between us and Boudicca and we will need to pop the border at Utrecht to claim the closest source of copper anyway, and that is yet a few turns off and we have no barabarian worries.

Explore around the Inland Sea and to the Northeast and pick a juicy spot for the settler.

you can take this one. I think settling the spot to the right of the corn would make a great city site because it would block off the rest fo the area to the east of the warrior that's fogged off. and with a little work, the gems would more than pay for itself. I think the spot you chose is a good one depending on the land up there. however, i think we could fit two good cities there. on on the east side of the river as it runs into the ocean/lake, and then one on the corner nabbing the fish/copper. the fish/copper city would be agreat candidate for a dike/moai statues, and with those hills and copper could make for a pretty nice production city.
