DLC 04 anticipation thread

Well, people already know my opinion on the 2 civs (or rather one of them) that have the highest chance of coming (naming Macedonia). I'll just hope the developpers change their mind or are simply trolling the players, which I don't really thonk so ...

On the other hand, I would love a Thai-Burmese-Khmer war scenario, or a Nikopolis Battle scenario, with the Ottomans and Hungary as new civs !

I'm still holding on to the potential that these are codenames to throw us off, but I will admit that is a pretty unlikely scenario when you consider that this list has apparently been present and unnoticed in the game files since before Poland and Australia were released - so why bother to use fake names now unless there is something particularly special about the next two civs.

If they already have the audio (given the text entry), and assuming they're not planning on doing anything extra special with the abilities, they may not need an actual patch for the game either to release DLC leaders.

Hopefully, though, they'll release a simple patch with all balancing and UI fixes. If they don't have to add new game features you would think that would be easy to handle...

They may not need to do one to get the DLC in, but there probably will be one. DLC almost always comes with a patch, not necessarily because of the mechanics, but because it just works out nicely that way.

But isn't a new leader almost the same work as a new civ? I mean most of the work time is probably graphics for the leader.

The soundtrack of a new leader would be cheaper than a new civ's one. Vanilla's Greece used the same theme for booth leader, so there wouldn't be necessary to pay for musicians and composers for this DLC, as the music is already in main game.
And About Isabella, I though was their plan to release as DLC, but after the reactions of the customers with the first dlcs, they understood that wouldn't be a good idea to sell (for the same price as a full civ, to be fair with who bought the Deluxe Edition) one simple extra leader and a scenario. In my opinion, extra leaders would be nice if sold or in themed packs (with at least 3 of them), with another civ (Like if DLC4 be Persia and Alexander as a extra leader for Greece) or in a dlc with a new civ and more than one leader (like, maybe, a Celtic civ with Boudica, Vercingetorix and Brennus).

To be fair three Celtic leaders would be even more overkill than three Greek leaders.

They are one of the civs where it makes sense to have more than one leader, given that the series tends to lump a bunch of seperate Celtic cultural groups together for gameplay purposes. They could have an Irish leader, a Scots leader and a Gaulish leader for instance. As a modern Celt I think I could get behind that :mischief:

Putting aside favoritism though, I have to agree that it would be too much in one go

I'd prefer civs that didnt appear official before. Like Vietnam *hinthint*. As long as that's the case, I also dont mind if they are European (like Genoa).
Macedonia under Alex doesnt count though (or similars, like I wouldnt count Turkey(instead of Ottomans) with Suleiman as a new civ).

I don't have a problem with Macedonia in general, but I hope they suitably differentiate it from the usual Greek traits (culture, city-states, great people). The game needs more warmongers and Alex could fill that niche in spades.

I would like to see a package of wonders. Would it be too much to ask for the Mausoleum, the Statue of Zeus and the Temple of Atermis in the DLC of Madedonia?
I'm really looking forward to Persia, but I think it's time for us to have a Southeast Asian civ, as well as alternative leaders for Rome, France and England...

So I think a DLC from Macedonia with a package of wonders and the Persia DLC with another civ or with alternative leaders would be welcome.

Though I feel like the game can never have enough warmongers (come at me bro!), I wouldn't say we have a shortage in the game. Rome, Germany, Sparta, Scythia, everyone in early game, China, etc.

I don't mean civs that are prone to declaring war (they all do that, even freaking Gandhi), I mean civs that have a warfare focus and benefit from conquest more than peace.

I would love Claudius (or whatever his name is in that weird English language that can't just take names as they are) as a Roman leader... On the other hand, a more warlike leader like Gaius Julius Caesar (despite already having appeared in earlier games) would be awesome too...

I am really looking forward to the point where more meso/south-american civs and SE-asian civs are released, because that's just desperately needed, but it doesn't seem their priority. :(

Ed Beach did a good job of showing diversity in the Civ V expansions. I can hardly believe he would regress. I have to believe that a greater selection is forthcoming after they get a few of these Fan-Request civs out of the way.

I think that they'll be getting to that in the first expansion. I mean, it makes sense to throw in, say, 4 African, 3 native American (north or south, whatever you want) and 3 mid/southeast Asian civs in it (or whatever's a logical amount of civs for an expansion. This is the first civ I ever really followed the development of).

The odds look good at the moment. It's in the game files and they pair well. But then I said the same thing about Isabella and we got Australia.
With Poland and Australia, I think we are starting to see a pattern. I think we may see Korea next, or some other "empire" that just happens to have an extant base of video game consumers.

I suggested this first for Persia's civ ability, but it would also fit Alexander's Leader Ability:
Has no own ability, but (partially) gets the ability of every civ of which he holds the majority of cities of. Some abilities are easy to quantize and make stronger and weaker, some aren't. But I still like the idea that you can get new abilities from conquering your neighbors and integrating their abilities into your empire. Probably incredibly hard to balance though.

What do you guys think about likely abilities for Macedonia / Persia? With the as of yet unknown Persian leader, there is lots of room for speculation.
