DMan1 - Operation Iron Cross (aka Panzers attack)

dmanakho said:
Those cities west should probably build some culture. May be more cities with culture next to Babylonians and we will get few flips our way. We need to get ceremonial burial and literature soon.

We cant compete with the babs on culture, can we? But I guess we have no choice. On this level they must be insane with all those cheap improvements

JJ

Borderline Babylonian cities will be corrupted and have less culture...
We certainly can try to flip those

smackster - still getting some life outside of civ.
Don't start that rumour, you will ruin my reputation. Although I have been off-line for nearly a week, I did manage to sneak in GOTM38 during that time, so not exactly a Civ free time :)

I'm back now, but clearly have some catch up

Good work. :)

No iron, but at least we have horses, which I always prefer if I had to choose. I think the settler should go to the goldhill to claim the second horse and 3 floodplains.

JJ is right, the Babs are the second culture monster after Sumeria, it will be tough to make anything there flip. But we at least can work on our culture so OUR cities doesn't flip

Hate to do this, but I have been a little behind the pace I should have been on doing homework over the last two weeks. And will have to make it up in the next two days. So I am requesting a skip.

smackster - up
tomasjj - on deck
dl123654 - on Christmas break until New Years
Gozpel
dmanakho - just played
bed_head7 - skipped

Phew just finished setting up the last of the kids games, I have to do this on two continents right now, of course I have to play them a bit too.

OK, I got it and I'll play this weekend. Might get it done today. Haven't looked at the map yet but hopefully I'll be able to make some comment before I do.

T0 1500BC
Change Leipzig to Settler, I'm tempted to change Hamburg to but decide that we need a balance of settlers and vet warriors. We do want to push the Babs back but don't want them to declare war too early.

Move the Carragh west and we meet India, they have Masonry, CB and Writing. Writing is getting cheaper now. We can get it for 250 gold, we lose 3 GPT at 10% research 49 turns to go, that is 147 gold we lose to research it. As we discover more civs then it will get cheaper. Therefore no point researching it at all so I would switch to 0%, however, we need culture.

Based on this thought I'll switch to CB, so that we can start some temples earlier. We can get it in 4 turns at +6 GPT. However, we can buy it for less than we lose researching it. That to me means we should buy it now, and research Myst if nobody has it, or 0%.

These are my plans, will probably play it later.

T0 1500BC
Switch Heidelburg and Munich to temple, both one shield cities right now.

IBTBab horse comes to the east, we have two warriors there.

T1 1475BC
Both warriors attack the horse and die, we only red line it. Our settler is forced to retreat west protected by a new warrior.

Move our curragh north, see that India's border appears to be up there, and then move it south. Trying to maximise meeting new neighbours

T2 1450BC
Berlin Settler->Settler. This one I move to surround Nipur.

IBT
Aztec moves into land near our Curragh

T3 1425BC
We meet the Aztecs, they have the usual set of techs. Everybody has Myst BTW.

Worker completes forest chop and helps the temple at Munich. Workers start to road horses. Also we start to irrigate the flood plains.

Aztec and Celts have HBR, the other two don't. We can get it for 72 gold and 7 GPT. I doubt we'll get all that back from the other two, but it may be close enough to make this worth it, so we'll give it a go.

Babylon give us a worker and 14 gold. India give us Masonry and 6 gold. The worker worth 110 Gold, plus 20, plus Masonry, so its not a bad deal.

T4 1400BC

Barb horse jumps between our warriors and is in range of Konigsberg, pesky barbs. I should change NoAIPatrol back to 1. It was much easier then, grrrr.

Our warrior find a hut and pops it hoping for a tech, but gets barbs.

T5 1375BC
Our warrior gets on the moutain to the east and sees a barb hut and cattle
Warrior that pops a hut survives two barb attacks and moves to the mountain

That's all for now.

T6 1350BC
Berlin Settler->Settler
We form Nuremburg on coast next to horse and gold. Blocks off the area to the SE.

Horses are hooked up and now we start building horses

T7 1325BC
Leipzig settler->barracks
Munich works both forest squares to get temple quicker

T8 1300BC
Warrior attacks barb hut in the SE and dies.
Heidelburg is pushed to get temple earlier, less growth.

T9 1275BC
Settles Cologne next to Nippur which is now surrounded.

We don't have enough troops, so this will be a nervous time, but two horses are being build, another barracks finishes next turn.

Frankfurt is given a taxman, as I don't want to move the slider for that one city.

T10 1250BC
Warrior defeat a barb horse from the SE, we need to get that hut cleared, its slowing our settler down.

Babs have now settled Zariqum in the NE, where our settler was going. We have two other settlers in motion.

We are still not researching anything, as I don't want to get into 50 turns on any of these, and we can buy them for less than we can research them for.

The Curruagh went south and hasn't found anybody else yet. Another one should be built as soon as it can.

Oh, situation is not easy... We are surrounded by water and Hammurabi...
No Iron, but horses and we can't use those.
Can we invent a tank with bunch of real horses under the hood??? :hmm:

I suggest We buy writing and research literature... AIs research literature exremely rare in C3C... And it is a good time to start pre-building Great library. We need to figure out which city is the best to do that.

And roster is:

tomasjj - up
dl123654 - on deck, well rested and refreshed
Gozpel
dmanakho
bed_head7
smackster - just played

Welcome back!!!
Roster has been updated.

Got it.
Will play later today, around 1700 CET.

Yes, I should have done that. Sorry forgot all about the GL. We may find that the AI already have it of course, the tech pace does seem fast.

It's demigod so tech pace is fast but we still could try GL pre-build...
Even if we fail with GL pre-build won't be wasted we will switch to ToZ and that will give us a great defence against Hammurabi.
How many more settlers we need to get of Berlin? If only couple more i suggest using berlin as GL pre-build. We may want to buy mathematics and use ToZ as a pre-build then switch to GL when we get literature or finish ToZ if we fail with GL... I am not sure on this option, so discussion is required.

Agree with your assesment, D-man.

One question though:
Are we buying both writing and maths? Can we afford that?
Hopefully we can buy it off the Babs at a recent price. That would give them less reason to attack us, if we have a gpt deal.

Agree on Berlin as prebuild city. Not much more space for us.

I am at work and can't check the save...
You don't have to buy both tech at the same time... Buy writing 1st and check if AIs have literature and if they do we are probably too late with GL anyway. If they don't start researching towards literature (don't have to do it at max, but rather at the pace of prebuild). Check AIs every turn constantly and as soon as they have literature buy mathematics as a backup for ToZ.

We can get Writing from the Babs for 169 + 4gpt and from Ghandi for 148 + 4 gpt. Those are the two best deals

We dont want to give Hammurabi lots of gold, being so close and sprawling.
On the other hand, a gpt deal may ease his powermongering aspirations towards us.
I think the 20 golds extra is worth that, even though he might just not care about it at all.
He is cautious towards us.

We buy writing from Babs for 148 + 4 gpt. Hammurabi is still cautious.

Good news is none of the AI has Literature.
We can buy Phil from some of the civs and sell it to India, who has math and myst.
However, already having two gpt deals running I am not sure if we will have enough to please Ghandi to get math then,
offering phil and some gpt.

Any thoughts??
