BTW... I don't think that we can get much from Asoka. Raggie is having a nice upper hand on him and if he continues marching , we won't have much to get from there ( stupid SG rules .... in a normal game I would be dogpiling Asoka ASAP ). This may be a problem if Raggie gets too strong....

And to add, Willem is preparing to take the double gems site.....

I already faced this once ( in PW-02 ), so I'm not surprised ( my bet is that the game thinks this is a advanced start and decides to assign religions ). But in here this may be problematic: Willem got Islam and converted. Given his proximity, that may spell trouble....

Got it. My first set of turns ever at Deity level. I'll wait with playing so the team can give me some input.

We can have Theo in 7 or HBR in 4. We'll need archery too imo to improve the defense of our cities and get some more military. We're dead last in that aspect and I don't like to be a sitting duck. Maybe HBR first so we can build some stables first

Courthouses will save us around 6g total, not that much, but maybe we could squeeze in another city somewhere. Either to the south to pick up the iron and the fish (but not much else) or to the west towards asoka near the sheep on a plains hill. It could service as a shield to take the brunt of Asoka's counter-attack (if any) and as a staging point of our soon to be Indian war.

Wonder-wise, we can build the Colossus (currently +9g) in around 8 turns in Seville where the forge finishes in 1t and Moai in Barcelona that has the most watertiles (9) in 11 turns.
We also need one more missionary for Cordoba

I will take HBR before Theo ... having a str8 unit that can double as anti-horse is better than having a str6 unit with a mere 2 exp extra.

I will go for colossus and Maoi. Courthouses can wait ... we need units more than we need judges at the moment.

And yes, I would settle one city closer to Asoka before the 170 turn mark. The southern site we can wait for latter.

over-zealous .... is the save compatible between 3.17 & 3.13? Is BUG still usable? Is Stream or DirectDrive version of patch available? Tons of question impacting SG and you patch within 1 hr of its release??

I've been reading. I think BUG is still working alright. I haven't heard anything about Stream or DirectDrive.

You're talking to me like I was a total SG noob ! How dare you... Of course I read the release notes before installing it. And as there wasn't mentioned that it would break savegames. And it doesn't of course, as I was able to load an older save of mine perfectly fine. BUG works still, there are only some minor tweaks necessary. I don't care of Steam or DirectDrive installs - but obviously the patch is available for those as several people in the MP lobby patched up yesterday using these versions. 3.17 fixes so much stuff that everyone should get it ASAP methinks.

I'm having some minor issues with 3.17 in one of my PC , but is only cosmetical stuff (XML tags instead of some options ). It is a good work, in spite of opening at least a new exploit ( in no espionage games, GSpy points generators continue to give GPP, but if pure they don't generate a GP... add another source of GPP and you'll get a GP of that time far sooner. GW + Mids + HG + forge ( 1 eng hired ) + courthouse ( 1 spy hired ) = 12 GPP for a GE )

Installed the patch, here we go.
First thing I notice is the new cursor, I’m glad they fixed that bug

Press enter. CoL is in. Let’s get those Phants: HBR chosen (in 4).
Two forges finish: Seville will build us a big bronze Statue. I stagnate it for max hammers: just to make Greyfox happy.
Barcelona will build Moai Statues in 8. Not much else to do except watch Ragnar advancing on Asoka wit a very small stack.

T148: Hannibal gets a GSc. Ragnar bombards Varanasi. We already lost the Dyes and Bananas to Willem who’s moving a settler to the gems site.

T149: Ragnar looses most of his stack but gets a GG in return. Madrid finishes forge, starts a missionary for Cordoba, which still lacks Judaism. Still no good trades to be made.

T150 Judaism spreads by itself to Cordoba. We get a GE in Madrid. We could use him for MoM in Cordoba to get back our resources! I send our GE to Cordoba.
Oh, Asoka build a city on our intended site near the sheep.

And Willem skipped the gems and build Leiden to the west of Cordoba which puts even more pressure on that poor city.

T151 Plantation finishes. HBR discovered. I’m still building that missionary, but then realize we have nowhere to send him. We only have open borders with Hannibal and Ragnar and we can’t reach them. It’s only one more turn, so I let him finish anyway for later use.

T152 Madrid: missionary -> Stable. There are 2 million Spaniards. ToA built in a land far, far away. I sent our warrior in Madrid south to explore that fish&iron site some more.

T153 Moai built in Barcelona, start a settler. Forge completes in Seville. I stop here: what do we want to do with our GE? MoM in Cordoba or a GA? (or settle or research machinery). I’d say built the mausoleum. I’ll continue tomorrow

MoM sounds fine, I think. Go for it I say. The +10 culture would be a nice addition to get back those two resources (speaking of which, in 20/20 retrospect, we should have settled 1 tile north and this won't be happening).

@Immy: well. most seasoned SG-captain would have asked their team players before patching ...

The point abt save compatibility is not whether 3.17 can open 3.13 save (I would really be very shocked at Firaxis if it can't). The point is whether 3.13 can load up a 3.17 save. If yes, I don't give a damn if people patch to 3.17. If no, then I will have to find out if there are any Steam, DirectDrive or even Linux players (myself included, when I play using my laptop on trips) before patching.

A 3.17 save is attached. It's one of my old 3.13 games after patching. You can play it out if you want, I've not played it for a while .

Thanks, Immy. As I suspected, the save version are both 3.01, so they are compatible ... so players can patch as they wish.

Well, with Immy's save, I can open with a 3.13 BTS game. But today I decided to patch my laptop and test it for myself. Once my 3.13 game on the desktop opens up the 3.17 save from the laptop, it hangs.

So, no, the saves aren't compatible.
