Its capital was Nanjing and later Chongqing as the provisional capital
after Nanjing had fallen.

Communist China is the People's Republic of China, headed by Mao Zedong.
During the war, its capital was in Yan'an.

But in DoC they are the same civ with different civics and LHs, aren't them?

China was in a civil war around the time I was aiming for, and I believe it was the only nation -- besides rebels vs colonialism -- to be in one. I might be wrong, but that is the reason I didn't want to pick a side.
