Kaer Trolde, Skelgas

Olaf could barely contain his fear as the doors closed behind him. Queen Ingra’s hall was larger than anything he had ever seen, though he could admit that he had seen very little in his life. He liked to think he kept his life simple. He honored the Old Gods and the runestones of course, but he did not exclude Eurus from his prayers. He defended his home from those who would seek to take it, obeyed the laws of his Queen, and honored his wife. Sweet, sweet Hilda. She was even more fearful than he was. He had tried to convince her not to come, that it would be too strenuous right after she had given birth. But no...she would not be absent...not for this.

There was another couple in front of them, with a child, their voices trembling. It was what Olaf would have sounded like, had he the courage to speak. A cry came out from the woman, and then from her child, while the man flew into a rage. Two guards restrained him, as he shouted obscenities to the Queen. Olaf could not see the Queen, but she remained silent as the two were escorted out from the hall. The baby’s crying turned silent. “Heartless witch” thought Olaf. And then a harsh voice called out “Come forth”

Olaf and Hilda approached the throne, prostrating themselves before it. The Queen remained silent for some time before saying “You may rise”.

Olaf looked up and nearly vomited, while Hilda broke into a cry. The baby...no, several babies lay on the ground, dead, their blood covering a runestone that went up to Olaf’s waist. He looked up to the Queen, who was smiling slightly. Olaf shuddered. He had known that Ingra had been Queen in his father’s time, and in his father’s father’s time before. Olaf would bet his right eye that there was no Skelgasi that lived through any other Queen besides Ingra. And it showed. Her body was bent, her face dominated by wrinkles. Her hands were shaking when she spoke, and she barely had any teeth left. And yet, for all of her physical weakness, when she spoke, it inspired fear, as if a thousand wolves surrounded you, eager for your blood. And what she was about to do...it felt as if the world was about to end

“Welcome to Kaer Trold, my subjects.” she said, in a cheerful voice “ I congratulate you on your recent accomplishment”

Hilda was crying, unable to speak, Olaf swallowed the fear in his throat and mustered a response “We thank you, Your Majesty, both for your congratulations and your invitation.”

“I am so glad some of my subjects still have common courtesy. I was beginning to think it was a lost art among the Skelgasi”

“Hard to be polite when you’re murdering their children in front of them” thought Olaf.

The Queen continued “I know this must be a surprise” “It’s not” thought Olaf “but the reason I invited you and your family to my hall is that, after many years on this land, I am looking for a successor. Unfortunately, Eurus, damned may she be, has condemned my womb to lie barren. And so, I must seek a child. But it cannot be just any child. I wish for a strong child, a child blessed by the Gods of Old, a child that can stand up to the foul odor that is Eurus.”

Olaf nodded “Well, Your Majesty, perhaps your search shall end here. Our daughter is strong and healthy. She never cries in the night, and would make any parent proud. She is surely blessed by the Gods.”

The Queen, surprisingly, smiled. “I have no doubt about that. But I am looking for...a specific blessing, really. May I please examine your child?”

Before waiting for a response, a guard moved towards Hilda, who began sobbing uncontrollably. She tried in vain to protect the child, but it was of no use. Olaf hugged his wife, and whispered softly to her, assuring her that all would be well…

The Queen held the child in her arms, and the child laughed as the Queen cooed. Olaf allowed himself to hope...a faint hope but a hope nonetheless. That his daughter would live, and that other children of Skelgas would not suffer this terrible fate ever again.

But then, Olaf’s world was shattered, as the Queen shook her head “Unfortunately, your child is not blessed by the Gods. I am sorry.”

Olaf could barely breathe, his head began ringing, while Hilda shouted and cried in the background. The Queen continued “To show the Gods that we are waiting for their blessed child, we must reject all other children they give us. Only then can we ensure that Skelgas will see the arrival of the child of the Gods!”

And with that, a guard took the baby, raising it above his head. He was going to impale her! Olaf could say nothing while Hilda shouted and screamed, but the guards blocked her from intervening. As the other guard plunged the baby onto the stone it began...to glow. “STOP!” shrieked the Queen, seconds too late. But the stone did not impale the baby. It was as if it melted around her, so that she would not be harmed.

Olaf cried out in joy, as did Hilda. Was this the favor of the Gods? The Queen began clapping and laughing “The Gods! The Gods have favored us today!” Olaf hugged Hilda, who was still sobbing, but this time in relief. The Queen took the baby back, and began cradling it. She turned to Olaf and Hilda once more “What are your names, my subjects?”

“I am Olaf Leifson, Your Majesty. This is my wife, Hilda.”

“I see. Well done, the two of you. You should be extremely proud, for you have just brought to life the next Queen of Skelgas.”

“We are honored Your Majesty. So honored. And thankful, to you and the Gods.”

“I am glad to hear that. Because you will need to remember those feelings for what happens next.”

The guards grabbed Olaf and Hilda, and a confused panic set in over both of them.

“It is for the Gods. And it is for your daughter.”

The guard first lifted Hilda above his head and impaled her on the rock, her cries dissipating into silence. And then, it was Olaf’s turn. He saw no use in struggling, so he sent a prayer. Not to the Old Gods that this hag served; a prayer to Eurus. “Great Goddess, hear my prayer. I know I have served the Old Gods before, but I can see it was a mistake. Please, Eurus. Save my daughter from this hag, do not let my daughter fulfill the witches’ ambitions!”

As he fell, he took one last look at his daughter “Be good. I love you.”

And then, it all faded to black.

Update 0

As with any journey, it makes sense to start in Sanctus. The Senate currently leads Sanctus and is under the rule of Consul Lucius Tullius. A brave and honorable man, he has done what he can to ensure that what remains of the Imperium is preserved. He does have some allies in this endeavor, namely Mariniasula, Lorem, Caudex, and Tarrabellum, as well as the colonies of Altumruina and Thraykia. Much of the interior and Tiggris is dominated by rebels, slaves and otherwise, who have taken advantage of the Imperium’s decline. But these foes are minor, and can be dealt with easily. The main threat is Reglas the White Flame of Alba, or as his supporters know him, Reglas the White Flame Dancing on the Graves of his Enemies. His naval domination of the southern sea, his fortress at Alba Camileum, and his numerous legions makes him a threat worth considering. To the north, the Holy Order of Iris, led by Brother Commander Mars, is both a guardian of Sanctusia, but also a rival to the Senate. It will be interesting to see if Tullius is willing to aid the Order to defend Sanctusia, or if the rivalry between the two factions will prevent cooperation.

While Tigris is infested with rebels, the island of Seleucia may be in a more precarious situation. Mauryia dominates the island, but it is surrounded by two Imperial generals. To the north lies the state of Quintus Bucinum, led by said Quintus Bucinum. To the south, Lepis Magna still professes nominal loyalty to the Senate, detests Quintus and has refused to work with him. It remains to be seen what will transpire in the coming years.

In Niberos, the powerful Udrogothi are a threat to the surrounding kingdoms. Tamria and Kilstett were conquered by earlier migrating tribes, who had since settled to rule the local inhabitants. They have embraced the worship of Eurus, and were at one time allies, but those days have long since been forgotten. Redlias still clings to the Old Gods, but it is said their King sinks deeper and deeper into madness each day. Alencium teeters on the edge of the wastelands, living each day in fear of the tribes from the Wastelands.

Inanatum, an ancient island that has seen the rise and fall of countless empires, has once again begun a new cycle of history. Neo-Ennannatum and Jahan are well familiar with these cycles, having once owned empires themselves, while the Ursai make preparations to ensure their own history of defeat and conquest does not repeat. Altumruina is alone in this corner of the world, but with careful leadership and cunning measures, they may not only survive, but prosper.

The Wastelands themselves are teeming with activity. Both the Gökan Horde and the Vacreau Teprein seem ready, and eager, to travel south into wealthier lands. For those who are staying behind, Solitas is preparing its own defenses; unique among the north, it worships Eurus instead of the Old Gods. Skelgas remains a place where little is heard, though it is said that the people are conducting strange, perverse rituals. Only time will tell what punishment that this behavior will bring.

Lethicum has seen a great revival in the Old Gods since the Imperium’s withdrawal, from the Koriates upon the lake, to the forest tribes of the Belois and even the strange realm of Montecalvo. Each of these Kingdoms have rejected Eurus, and have once more raised runestones. Only Cissilvania remains committed to the Goddess; in this struggle, they will need Her help more than they ever have.

Last, but not least, Pelagia. The Imperial collapse was welcomed here both by the powerful Kingdom of Tyis, as well as the slaves who labored on the plantations for cruel Sanctusian masters. Defeating frightened men who had never fought in their lives before is one thing though; fighting a great horde is another, and the Gökan Horde is eagerly looking forward to destroying these kingdoms, one after another.

---------

Neo-Ennannatum, a marvel to behold by all who saw it. Even the Sanctusian diplomats who had come from time to time seeking trade or tribute could not deny it. But as of late, the ziggurats have been...different. To those who honor Eurus, it is a foul stench, of sulfur and sewage, with strange whispers filling the air. But to those who remember the old ways….the true ways, it is atmosphere of hope and daring. Adash has been conquered and broken and rebirthed time and time again. Perhaps Neo-Ennannatum will soon begin a new age of empire?

Spoiler :
Divine King’s Challenge: Our policies of tolerance for Eurus worshipers has helped ensure the peace between us and the Imperium for countless generations. While other realms may have killed Eurus worshipers, we were more than happy to allow them to remain in our Kingdom, so long as they did not stir dissent against our earthly authority. However, with trade declining throughout the world and the Imperium on its last legs, some of your priests have suggested the rethinking the policy of tolerance. A mass sacrifice of Eurus worshipers and their priestesses on top of the ziggurats would be pleasing to the Old Gods and the runestones, but it would likely infuriate the Goddess, and while most of our people honor the runestones, there could be some blowback against the mass sacrifice of those whom they befriended or did business with. What is your ruling, Divine King?

The Vacreau Teprein sits at the edge of world, looking unto an Imperium in disarray. They have licked their wounds for generations, gathered their strength, and dreamed of their revenge. They are a people who had lost everything, but now declare they will take everything back and more. The Great Tepres has united all the tribes of the Vacreau, and even outsiders have been attracted to her cause, in hopes that ambitions of glory and land can be realized.

Spoiler :
Great Tepres’ Challenge: Among the last tasks to be completed before our march was the arranging of horses for cavalry and carts. One particular wild horse caught your eye; a black stallion. Its spirit was wild and stood larger, much larger, than any other horse your people have ever seen. When your tribesmen could not handle it, you were able to tame with whip and spur, eliciting great cheers from your people. Many say it is a gift from the Old Gods, as there are stories of such a great beast from before the Empire. The question is, what to do with said horse. Riding it yourself could further cement your status as leader, but there are other thoughts too. A nearby tribe, the Decii, have resisted your armies and your overtures, but a gift such as this could ensure he swore loyalty and service to you. Others still have suggested that the horse be sacrificed on the Runestone, to show thanks for the Gods. It is your choice; what say you?

The Gökan Horde is at the edge of Pelagia, looking over weak kingdoms that can easily be conquered. And why shouldn’t you conquer them? What right do they have to this land? They took this land from a broken empire. They are not fighters. Many of them were slaves, and their blood has been diluted with a thousand years of weakness and servitude . It is time that they remember their original place.

Spoiler :
Khan’s Challenge: During a hunt, one of your sons made a near fatal mistake while facing off against a Giant Boar. He was nearly impaled, but one of your guards was able to step in at the last minute, saving him from certain death. The guard was heavily wounded in the process though. It seems he will not last much longer, and when you visited him to reward him for his efforts, he asked that his only child, a daughter, be provided for by marriage to the son he saved. It is an audacious request, and you could easily ensure that his daughter did not want for anything, and you could ensure she had a good marriage with one of your vassal chiefs. However, this could be a sign from the Old Gods, and the union between your son and the guard’s daughter could be blessed by the runestones. What is your will, Grand Khan?

Altumruina is an oddity, an imperial outpost on an isle filled with foreigners and heathens. The Imperium has seen brighter days on Inanatum, though to his credit, Dominus Clavian Aurutus has kept the foreigners and barbarians at bay against all odds. Altumina Regina is a bright spot for imperial rule still, a beacon of hope, but many feel that the Dominus is crazed to think the Senate can help them all the way out here; they can barely help themselves…

Spoiler :
Dominus’ Challenge: Jahanpana, or Jahan as they are known to us, have renounced the Imperium, but they have not renounced Eurus. They could be a formidable ally against Neo-Ennannatum and could ensure Altumruina survives these turbulent times. However, some advisors say that the Jahan are rebels and traitors to the Imperium, and that they deserve nothing but the sword and the whip. The more moderate advisors suggest that while war with Jahan is most likely unnecessary, allying with them could be seen as treason by the Senate (though to be fair, they could do little to punish us). How should we interact with the Padizadate?

The Realm of Koriates, a name that strikes fear into the hearts of man, for it was there where the plague began. What was once a center of trade and a symbol of imperial power has turned into something….eerie. The Runestones once more dominate the shore that Koriates controls, and the populace has embraced the zealotry of the newly converted like no other. Ambitions, once whispered, are now shouted, of conquering and purging the lands of imperials and all who still bow to Eurus. And now that the land of Koriates has recovered from the infernal plague, it can make these ambitions... into realities.

Spoiler :
Lady’s Challenge: In our lands, there used to be a silver mine. The empire has long since drained the mine of any wealth it once had, they blocked the entry way with stone. One of our scouts stumbled upon it though, and claims he saw lights and heard noises coming from the mine. Ancient legend speaks of a great and powerful and terrible beast that lived in that mine before Eurus came to these lands. Many of our advisers, inspired by recent zealotry, have insisted we dig out the cavern once more, though it would cost a good amount of time and resources. Other advisers are more cautious, saying those resources are better used elsewhere, and a third faction swears that, while they are no Eurus lovers, there is no guarantee that whatever is in the mine (if there is anything there at all!) is friendly to us! What should we do? (It would cost 5 IC and 5 EP to remove the blockage)

Mariniasula they say is a gem of Tigris. It is a blessing that the city remained loyal to the Senate; with Reglas the White Flame in control of Servidor, Mariniasula is considered a key defender of the Senate on the Sanctus Sea. Thankfully, it seems that the White Flame is uninterested in marching on the city itself, something to thank Eurus for. But the people cannot breathe easy, not with the rebelling slaves in Mariniatoni. They say that having a supply of hemlock was a necessity for the Fringe during the Calamity..hopefully the Dominus can inspire hope before things turn dire.

Spoiler :
Dominus’ Challenge: A Strategos of the Senate has arrived in Mariniasula during his patrol of the Sanctus Sea and has noted that the harbor facilities are in need of upgrades. He has proposed the implementation of several new workshops, arsenals, and warehouses that would streamline ship maintenance. The initial cost would be high, but it could well be worth it in savings. (Costs 10 IC and 10 EP)

Lorem and the Ipsum family that rules it are under a unique pressure from the Senate due to circumstances of geography. They have been called “The luckiest unluckiest family in all the Imperium” because of the importance the Senate places upon the province; its demands, and its gifts, have always been a source of alternating pity and envy. The slave rebels in the hills of Rachis and Helicartes are dangerous of course, but Reglas the White Flame is the far more disturbing enemy. Lorem is one of the last defenses before one reaches Sanctus, and the Ipsum family must embrace this role, lest they incur the ire of said Senate...

Spoiler :
Domina’s Challenge: Your guards have brought before you a captured slave that had collapsed on the road outside Lorem. He is a Doctore by the name of Punio, a renowned doctore whose master had died during the pillaging of Iberia. He explained that his master died during the pillaging, and that with nowhere else to go, he headed to Lorem where his wife and son were owned by a local landowner. He has offered his services to assist you building a world class lanus. Punio’s reputation is that of a strict disciplinarian, but he is a man who has made slaves into champions, a man who will make you a popular lanista with a world-class ludis. Punio has offered to sell himself to you; his price being your purchase of his wife and son, the equipping of a modern lanus, and the first pick of any slaves that enter your service. Some of your advisers think that this is a blessing from Eurus to deliver such a man to you; he has the potential to help you gain favor with key Senate officials, and make you a significant amount of money. However, some of your advisers feel it is not worth the cost, and others wonder if the Doctore’s tale of his master dying is actually true. What would you have done? (Costs 5 ep to build the Lanus, purchase needed slaves, and the Doctore’s family)

In the Respublica Cissilvania, it was said by the poet Cilius that “Eurea Cissilvana is Sanctus, away from Sanctus”. Its Sanctified traditions and languages, as well as fertile soil, helped create a strong local power that thrived in the great days of the Imperium. But these ties did not keep them loyal to the Senate when the Imperium declined, much as Sanctus abandoned Cinere in the eras before. Like Sanctus of old, Cissilvania has a Senate, and (again, like Sanctus of old) a dictator. Perhaps it shall continue to follow the way of Sanctus of Old; perhaps it is time for a new Imperium to rise from the ashes of the old?

Spoiler :
Dictator’s Challenge: A group of refugee Eurus worshipers from Koriates have arrived in our lands, seeking safety on their way towards Monteurus. An Arch Priestess seems to be their leader, and she has come to your court, begging for assistance for the travelers, in the form of food and medicine. Assisting them on their journey would likely be smiled upon both by Mars of Iris as well as the Goddess Eurus, but some senators feel it would be absurd to waste state money on foreigners. Other, less moral senators wonder if the pilgrims could be enslaved to serve the Respublica, though that would surely bring the wrath of Eurus upon us, not to mention Iris. What say you, Dictator?

The Caudex and its capital of Aesta Camileum were both hit hard in the Calamity. That is the downside, of course, of being a major trade hub for the Imperium. And yet, against the odds, they survived. Though the great merchant families of old have mostly crumbled, so long as the silver keeps flowing, the Caudex can maintain their control of Aesta Camileum….and beyond. From death’s door, now is the time to grow strong! Of course, with the Senate close by, there is bound to be certain pressures….though perhaps certain opportunities as well.

Spoiler :
Dominus’ Challenge: The decline of trade, and therefore the merchant families, has been significant, and many merchant are looking for investment opportunities in the city. As such, they are not in need of their fleets. They have offered to you 5 Galleys at a much reduced price, and have even offered slave rowers to be included in the price. What say you? (15 ep buys 5 Galleys)

Tarrabellum is one of the youngest cities in the Imperial homeland, but their resilience in the face of the Great Calamity has earned the city praise in the Senate. The city has in many ways recovered, aided by the silver mines and the memorial statue in the market district. Were it not for the looming presence of the Hollowed Quarter, Tarrabellum would resemble its old self, that of the old Imperium.

Spoiler :
Dominus’ Challenge: The Hollowed Quarter is, unfortunately, one of the more infamous aspects of Tarrabellum, and is what has been unkindly referred to as a “blight”. An Arch Priestess of Eurus has offered to cleanse the Hollowed Quarter, if you agreed to erect a large temple to Eurus in its place. The Temple would cost much, but the reclaiming of the quarter could be worth it. (Costs 20 EP and 10 IC to build the Temple)

Mauryia is situated on rich, fertile lands with industrious mines, an envious position to be sure. The Imperials grew fat on these lands, but now that they are gone, the Seleucia family looks to expand further; their first step being to conquer or subdue their neighbors. While they hold a dominant position on the island, dangerous enemies nip at their heels. Surely, this is a test. And if they pass this test, perhaps they can take on the test of empire?

Spoiler :
Queen’s Challenge: Great fortune, my Queen! One of the slaves found a new vein of metal that we can exploit in our mine. It would cost some money to expand the mine, but it would be well worth it in the long run. What say you? (5 IC and 5 EP to expand the mine’s capacity)

The Padizadate of Jahan is yet another ancient city on Inanatum, yet unlike those in Adash, Jahan had submitted to the Imperium. Many say that Jahan had lost its pride with its submission, but the people of Jahanshah know that this is untrue. History comes in cycles after all. What was once a great empire went into decline, and was brought under Sanctus. And it was there where Jahan was rebuilt, with Imperial might and coin. More importantly though, the Imperium brought the people Eurus, the greatest gift of all. Now, Jahan is free from the Empire, and many feel the cycle of history is coming once more; the cycle of empire. Perhaps it is time for Jahan to teach Sanctus, as Sanctus once taught Jahan?

Spoiler :
Padizadeh’s Challenge: Scavengers in the old capital have made an incredible discovery; the crown of the old Padizadate. The Padizadeh, when she ruled a great empire, wore this crown, though it was lost when Sanctus brought us under their rule. It is said that the crown bestowed upon the wearer great knowledge, and even foresight into the future. Now, the question is what should be done? Wearing the crown could help symbolize the return of our people to an age of empire, but this crown was worn during the days when we worshiped the Old Gods. The Arch Priestess at the Tempum Magnificum has offered to cleanse the crown of the magics of the Old Gods, which would likely please Eurus, but it could render some, or all, of the crown’s power impotent (if it even has said power at all)! Finally, some of our advisors suggest that said crown should not be worn at all, and a new crown, free from any taint of the Old Gods, should be created. What say you?

The Udrogothi are another tribe that preserved its independence in the face of Sanctus that now looks hungrily at the broken pieces that lie before it. Their King, Throtkar, has lead them to the edge of the Imperium, and hungrily looks upon the states where the Imperium once stood, with few seeming as if they can withstand his armies.

Spoiler :
King’s Challenge: As we prepare to depart from our lands in search of new glories, the Breccia, a tribe we had occasionally traveled and traded with, has come forward with an offer. The old chieftain died, and his two children have taken over the tribe. They too seek the wealth of the Imperium, but know that their own tribe is too weak to conquer much. They have offered to join your army if in exchange, you agree to allow one of them to marry into your family. Some of your advisers feel that it would be a bold move and would strengthen our forces, but others fret that the Breccia are too weak to waste the marriage of a Udrogothi prince or princess on. It is of course, your decision. What say you?

Quintus Bucinum is a state by Quintus Bucinum and for Quintus Bucinum, and the Senate can hang themselves if they think they can stop him. The fake poet Lucan and his fake poems are trash that no true Imperial would listen to. His Legions are the best, and the city of Quintus Bucinum is the best city in the world. Sanctus has nothing on it. And his villa! Losers have small villas. But Quintus, his villa is a tower! A tower! Everyone loves Quintus. Everyone. Whoever doesn’t like Quintus is a loser and a hater. The Senate loves him, but even if they didn’t, they couldn’t do anything about him. Because he’s Quintus Bucinum.

Spoiler :
Dominus’ Challenge: A group of enterprising locals have approached you with an interesting offer. They were hoping that you would be willing to loan your name to their businesses and in your speech to the people of Quintus Buinum, encourage people to shop at said businesses. They will pay you quite handsomely for the privilege, though some loser locals would probably be upset with this. But what do they know, what say you? (The locals are offering 5 ep for a one time licensing fee)

Thraykia sits on the shores of the Bay of Niberos, surrounded by rebels and traitors. The White Flame sits to the east, while slave rebels have taken over provinces to the north and west. To defend this land, Domina Helina will need to be actively seeking advantages against her neighbors. And even though she is loyal to the Senate, one would be foolish to antagonize the White Flame needlessly…

Spoiler :
Domina’s Challenge: Good fortune comes to the pious, they say. Our scouts came across an abandoned, crumbling Imperial fortress in the countryside and while they did not find Sanctusian steel, they did find something else; the standard of the lost 15th Legion. Though there have been many fakes that have come up over the years, our Legion’s historian has confirmed this is a genuine article. Taking this standard with us into battle would assuredly raise the morale of our own troops, but some advisers have suggested making a gift out of it. Sending it to the Senate would ensure that we are looked upon favorably, but were we to send it to Reglas the White Flame, he may be inclined to give us a great earthly reward.

People always ask me to support their new businesses. It's fantastic.

Let me tell you about how I decide to support new businesses. My guys they're going to say, "Quintus I never saw anything like it. You have to endorse this business." And some of the poets are going to attack me. But a number of the poets - you know, say I have a great eye for business.

Let me just say, I do very well with supporting new businesses. I love supporting new businesses. No one loves supporting new businesses more than me, BELIEVE ME. Businessmen love me. I'm the best at supporting new business.

Lepis Magna has been so weak, he's let a foreign woman take over Imperial territory and get stronger! Shame. I hear that foreign woman is planning to kill Lepis Magna like a dog! I can't imagine what is taking so long!

I cherish Lepis Magna. I want to help him. I'm going to be able to do things for him that nobody else will be able to do! I've had enemies. I have people I've really helped a lot. And what I want to do is help Lepis Magna.

Stats are currently (mostly) updated. I will finish work on adding PC characters tomorrow, but other than that, we are good to go. I have added the technologies which you can also find on the front page.

I have added a few new changes. Namely;

-Rebel type factions; these are mostly lawless factions that can only defend themselves against attack. Thankfully they don't have to pay any bills!
-Decreased the cost and power of Heavy Infantry
-Sanctus factions no longer have to pay ep every turn to the Senate; every few turns they will demand some form of tribute though.
-Turns are 2 years in length, so plan accordingly.

I am likley going to set the deadline to be next Friday, but will confirm it once I finish PC character stats!

Hi all,

Good news! Stats are finally completed (thanks 4th of July for getting in the way of IOT >: ( ) and we are ready to go! Orders will be due Friday, July 14th at 5 PM PST.

However, to make it easier on myself, I will be giving bonuses for earlier orders! For +1 LG, have orders in by Wednesday, July 12th, and for +.5 LG, have orders in by Thursday, July 13th.

Please include your faction name in your orders.

Stories will be given bonuses. Make them good and you will see a reward!

Some of you may have noticed that your characters are all unmarried, even if you specified they were married to one another. After some thought, I am just going to note it as something like your unlisted brother that was close to you is married, so it still is a tie to you, but you can still RP your characters being married to one another.

Other than that, we're good to go! Looking forward to the orders! And please let me know if you have any questions

"This is clearly a blessing from Eurus and a sign of her favour! How fortunate it is for Punio to come before Claudia Ipsum, one who truly understand his artistic talent! As an artist myself, I truly understand the art and performance of the gladiatorial arena. I could recognise Punio's talent all the way from Sanctus, his price is fair and just. I will accept his terms, together we will make gladiators that even Eurus will be proud of! Praise Eurus!"

"I went to Bucinum's Chain Fair once. The slaves were dry and overpriced, the chains were rusty and there was this couple behind me in line that argued over whether Eurus or the Old Gods would make better patrons for the Imperium the. entire. time. Do not recommend. Worst slave auction - EVER. The visit violated all of my senses. All of them." - Quintus Suetonius Caudex

A Dagger in The Light

Quintus leaned against a pair of empty crates in an abandoned alleyway on the southern piers of Aesta Camileum. At his side were three bodyguards disguised in commoner fashion idling. He kicked the dirt and lowered his hood over his eyes whenever someone passed to avoid being recognized. This wasn't an official public appearance, after all. No, he had plans on this day, so help him Eurus.

A sharp whistle caught the attention of both him and his guards, and they turned towards another group of hooded men whom entered the alley. As they halted before Quintus, they shook hands. The men revealed themselves as the prominent merchants of the port city. "You would have word, Dominus?" one queried.

"Indeed. I have gathered you before me to speak of free mind the grave situation our Imperium is currently finding itself in." Quintus responded with a sigh. "And this required us to skulk in the dark alleys of this city? What is so important it required us to hide ourselves from sight like this, Quintus?"

Quintus squinted. "I seek only to bargain by appealing to your loyalties to the Imperium. I require your ships, as does the Senate. But I am afraid I do not hold coin for purchase at this time."

"Then seek word when you do, Dominus. Loyalty does not procure bread upon table or wine in belly.". There was a united nod among the merchants, agreeing to the response. Quintus made another sigh before turning his back upon the group and towards his bodyguards. He winked to one of them.

"A shame. I wished you would find reason in these trying times for all of us. Apologies for wasting time best spent collecting additional coin from the masses."

The merchants looked upon one another for a brief period before giving their respects and turning to leave, only to be lynched by a group of men clad in slave rags and knives. They did not even have the time to scream. Meanwhile, Quintus and his retinue had already left the alley to inspect the markets. Guess loyalty means as little as he had suspected. Coin is all that matters in this day and age, no matter who you are. And he'd attain it all.

Cissilvania is a land blessed by the Goddess Eurus with great harvests and our great capital Heuresci is the city of the Goddess herself. We must help these fellow worshippers in need just like Eurus has helped us, the Arch-Priestess's petition for aid shall be granted. As for the notion of enslaving these men and women, know these Senators not that the foundation of our Respublica is a society of free citizens? No follower of Eurus in Cissilvania will be forced into slavery under my watch, mark my words.

OOC: Due to some unexpected spontaneous vacation plans, I won't have much time the coming week(s) to write orders, so if you could NPC me that would be good. If Cissilvania still stands when I return, I'd like to come back to it.

The report didn’t surprise Dorio Seleucia Mauryia. Well, perhaps it surprised her a bit but certainly it wasn’t completely unexpected. He was her son after all.

The method was cruel, barbaric, degrading, and if she was to be honest with herself, completely in Ruggero’s character. And there would be no doubt of its efficacy. A man who could do that to a family member was turning his back on his family- after that there could only be one family and that would be Ruggero’s elite guard. You had to destroy a man completely to remake him as you wanted. Somehow Ruggero had learned that early.

She reread the report slowly. One of her spies had brought it to her. A group of five men, their faces hidden behind thin black hoods, had broken into one of the village homes, assaulted the elders therein and dragged their child, a girl of seventeen, out into the streets where they had taken turns defiling her. The guards had been suspiciously absent and because Dorio’s spies were always eager to please her with new reports, one had followed the men after they had had their fun.

The men had led the spy back to the manor of the captain of Ruggero’s house guard, a man by the name of Uffe who was known to share his patron’s love of cruelty and violence. The spy followed the men in and was able to identify the five. Quite unexpectedly, three were all members of Ruggero’s elite house guard. Other than these, the fourth member was her son Ruggero himself, which while shocking, wasn’t completely surprising. The fifth man was the son of the victimized couple and older brother of the defiled girl. The spy swore on Eurus that all five men had deflled the sister. The man had applied to Ruggero’s house guard and she would bet that if she asked Uffe if they had taken on any new elite soldiers, the brother of the defiled girl would be listed.

And there she had it. The rest she could surmise. Ruggero was a sociopath; she had always known it. In some ways she had encouraged it; it set him apart and above from his peers. These acts, they defined these men, made them less and more than human somehow. They would kill, kill to be part of the only family that would have them, that knew their truths and accepted them, even to hide their truths from their blood family. And they had done the worst they could do, so now there was nothing they couldn’t do. Ruggero’s method was cruel and frankly, disgusting, but it worked. His men were loyal and ruthless and that’s what he needed.

The report lit with a crackling yellow-white blaze when as she threw it into the fire.

974-976 IC

Someone will die here tonight.
That is what Lyssa’s bones said. Of course, when there are five other priestesses who are better future seers, one of whom is a legitimate oracle, Lyssa saying “someone will die here tonight!” does not engage the interests of the priestesses. So she whispered it, so not to disturb anyone, but no one could claim she said nothing if indeed, someone were to die tonight.

But again, her prediction was not particularly important, not tonight at least. Because the “Oracle” as she was known, was to awake today. Those who can see the future often do so through a variety of means, though dreams are often the most common. Admittedly, it can be difficult for an amateur to differentiate between a regular dream and a prophetic one, but distinguishing between the two has helped the priestesses of Eurus rise in power and influence, or so says Arch Priestess Lycra…

In any case, the monastery would not be this worked up normally over a dream from the Oracle. No, this was a special occasion....about a year ago, the Oracle declared she was feeling rather tired and went to bed upon finishing mid-afternoon prayers. She did not awaken for dinner, nor for morning chores either. Worried, the priestess assigned to watch over her called for a healer, and the healer announced that the Oracle was in a deep trance. Such a trance had not occurred for hundreds of years, and set many into a frenzy, anticipating each day to be the one that the Oracle would awake. Each day, the priestesses would wait for the Oracle to wake, eager to greet her prophecy, but left each night disappointed. After a few weeks of this, the monastery returned mostly to normal, until today when another future seeing priestess, Lira, declared that today would be the day that the Oracle awakened. Jugs of water were rushed to the north tower, fresh bread was baked, fruits were picked, and a massive crowd of priestesses crowded the hall, the morning chores completely forgotten. Even the men, the soldiers and the lay brothers, who normally took little interest in the goings on of the priestesses, glanced curiously to see if they could catch a glimpse of the Oracle.

Lyssa herself was one of the “lucky” few that were chosen to attend the Oracle’s awakening, due to her status as a future seer. Nominally, she was there to help interpret the dream, but de facto, she was there to shove bread in the Oracle’s face when she awoke. Maybe she could….

Lyssa’s daydream was interrupted by a sharp grunt and a yawn. The Oracle was awakening! Arch Priestess Lycra snapped at the onlookers to disperse, ordering one of the soldiers to ensure they did not dawdle nearby. The Oracle awoke, with dark heavy bags under her eyes, her arms outstretched in a yawn. She did not say anything, but grabbed a jug from one of the other priestesses and immediately began drinking from it. Much of it poured down the Oracle’s front, but she did not care. After emptying the jug, she turned to Lyssa and snatched the bread from her hungrily. Her body seemed gaunt and her stomach was growling as she shoved the loaf down her throat. Wiping away the crumbs, she cried out “Meat! Wine!”

The Arch Priestess put her hand up “Patience, child. You do not want to overindulge.” Ignoring her, the Oracle took another jug of water and drank from it, albeit in a more controlled fashion than last time. Wiping her mouth with her hand, she looked directly at the Arch Priestess and said, her voice hoarse, “Comedenti”.

Two of the higher ranking priestesses gasped, and the Arch Priestess nodded without a word. Comedenti? What did that mean? The Arch Priestess turned and said “Wait outside the door.” As the priestesses hesitated, the Arch Priestess shouted “Now! Out with you!”

Lyssa could barely understand what was happening. After waiting nearly an hour though, the Arch Priestess emerged from the room. Her demeanor and voice betrayed no signs of worry, but Lyssa saw her hands, shaking as she spoke “Prepare the White Tower. We must commence with the birthing ritual. Tonight.”

------

Truth be told, there was not much to prepare for with a birthing ritual. It was admittedly the first one in about twenty or so years, but it was pretty straight forward. Sanitize the platform, put up the curtains for privacy, arrange the torches in a circular fashion, draw a few symbols, throw out some rose petals and that was it. Lyssa was relieved there was thankfully no animal sacrifice, as that always entailed such a mess to clean up afterwards. As she laid out the last of the rose petals, a chill went through her once more. Someone will die tonight. She debated telling the Arch Priestess, but shuddered at the thought. It wasn’t as if Lyssa would be told she was wrong per say, but rather she would be told it was a vision of inconsequence. Of something that was obvious to anyone with eyes, ears, and a brain. So Lyssa kept her mouth shut. “Hopefully no one important is dying tonight” she muttered under her breath.

That night, a group of ten priestesses, with Lyssa among them, sat in the White Tower, chanting. Eurus irrue in nos Eurus irrue in nos Eurus irrue in nos Eurus irrue in nos Eurus irrue in nos. Over and over. Only the Arch Priestess and the Oracle were silent. The Oracle sat on the raised platform, her appearance completely changed from this morning. Her hair had been combed, her fingernails trimmed, her skin scrubbed. Color had returned to her face, and she was smiling softly. She wore a light sheet that hid less than nothing, and twirled it ever so slightly around herself, as if waiting in anticipation for…..something devious. The Arch Priestess spoke with a group of lay brothers, who listened with a solemn expression. One of the older brothers stepped forward, but the Arch Priestess shook her head, and motioned to one of the younger men. The young man nodded, and disrobed, approaching the platform. Lyssa nearly stopped chanting as she saw him; blonde curls resting on his cheeks, with his blue eyes filled with determination. His body was like that of the warrior Adonis, and while Lyssa suppressed a sigh, she became even more jealous of Oracle in that moment.

Two of the older priestesses broke with the chant to adjust the curtains to hide the two, and the Arch Priestess held her hand up to stop the chanting. “Sisters! Today, the nightmares of our ancestors have come to being. The one who shall devour the heavens….Comedenti….he is among the living. He has descended upon our world, to gain strength to challenge Eurus herself.” The Arch Priestess attempted to continue speaking, but was distracted by loud grunts and moans from behind the curtain. She gave a nervous cough before continuing “Now, our sister, Lyc-” at this, a moan louder than any other came from behind the curtain, and Oracle shouted the Goddesses name, over and over. With this, the Arch Priestess blushed, and the two older priestesses, sensing her discomfort, began the Eurus irrue in nos chant once more.

After a few more minutes, the Oracle emerged, rubbing her stomach. The Arch Priestess, having recovered from her prior embarrassment, smiled, and turned to the priestesses “Now, my sisters. We have nothing to fear. For Eurus has blessed us with a weapon to defeat Comedenti. Eurus be praised!”

“Eurus be praised”, Lyssa and the others chanted in unison. The Arch Priestess took the Oracle away, leaving Lyssa and the others to clean the White Tower. The sisters took their time, rearranging the torches, cleaning the rose petals and clearing the symbols from the floor. Each priestess went slowly, hoping to avoid the likely naked man that lay behind the curtains. Seeing a man naked would be a first for most of the girls here, and many felt it was taboo…..but that made them all the more curious. Luckily (or unluckily), two lay brothers returned to retrieve the man. As they pulled back the curtains, Lyssa attempted to sneak a look at the man who had been the Oracle’s conquest, and nearly fainted from the sight. Instead of the handsome and energetic young man that had entered, the man who emerged was dead, his skin shriveled, his muscles seemingly melted off, his hair turned white, and the determination in his eyes had turned to...nothing.

Someone died here tonight

Update 1: And So We Go

Altumruina

Spoiler :
The most isolated of the imperial outposts remained fairly calm, all things considered. With Neo-Ennannatum sacrificing their Eurus worshipers and conquering the Ursai, one could be forgiven for being tense. But Dominus Clavian has decided to be cautious in his movements, strengthening ties with Jahan and building up his fortifications. The moves have seen an increase in prosperity for Altumina Regina, but with the “God King” growing stronger by the day, the Dominus may need to act sooner rather than later...

Results: +1 Industry in Province 57. Altumina Regina

Dominus’ Challenge: The fall of the Ursai has seen many fleeing a fate of conquest and slavery. One such individual is a woman, her hair as dark as a raven and her skin as white as snow. She has been called “Queen” by those who she travels with, but your scouts have indicated she is not Queen Diveca of the Ursai. She has attracted our attention due to her work in Altumina Regina, where she has reportedly become an influential fortune teller among the masses. Many feel she has a powerful gift, and she has offered to share it with us, so long as the Dominus agrees to marry her. While this would likely offend those in the Imperium proper, and could cast some shame upon our family name, a genuine fortune teller could be an invaluable ally. What say you?

Caudex

Spoiler :
One could not say that the Caudex lacked audacity. Their marriage with the Tarrabellum family paid major dividends as the two families advanced together to subjugate Iberia. A talented centurion caught the eye of the Caudex family, and became a vassal praetor, serving Aesta Camileum.

The bolder move yet still came during the negotiations with the merchant families of Aesta Camileum. Their trade empires had crumbled and they had hoped to recoup some of their losses, and be of some service to the Caudex family. It seems though that they should never have made the offer. When the Caudex inquired if the ships could be acquired for free, the merchants refused, and Dominus Caudex had them killed for their insolence. A riot broke out over the death of some of the most prominent families in the province, and the Dominus was forced to call back his legion to restore some order, though casualties were sustained in the fighting.

The move by the Dominus has caused a panic, and some citizens have fled the city for Sanctus. The city’s industry has suffered from this exodus, but perhaps it does not matter to the Dominus. He seized significant assets from the rioters and besides: he got his ships for free.

Results:
-5 LG, -1 MP in Province 13. Aesta Camileum, -2 industry in Province 13. Aesta Camileum, -1 Admin in Province 13. Aesta Camileum
+5 Galleys
+5 ep seized assets

Dominus’ Challenge: Our treasury is running low, and we are spending more than we are bringing in! The new navy is impressive, but it is our biggest expense to be sure. One of our advisors has suggested we use our fleet for less...noble purposes. Significant sea trade is a thing of the past, but there is a fair bit of trade still running between Sanctus and Cinere; we could potentially disrupt it and make a good amount of money. However, that could strain relations between us and Sanctus. An alternative idea could be to send raiding parties via sea, though your centurions argue that they would better serve you putting down the slave revolts near home. What say you, Dominus?

Cissilvania

Spoiler :
It is a kind soul who gives to those in need. The refugees heading to Iris greatly appreciated the gesture of your aid, and some of the people settled in your own republic, finding the reception to be truly generous. The Holy Kingdom of Iris thanks you greatly, and has promised to stand by your side when needed.

Results: +2 MP

Dictator’s Challenge: One of the refugees we allowed into our lands is particularly grateful to our hospitality, and he is hoping he may serve his new homeland. He knows of many who secretly worship Eurus in their homes, who would look upon our cause with favor. If we were to give this man some silver, he feels he could help establish a powerful spy network in the kingdoms of Lethicum. What say you?

Jahan

Spoiler :

The people of Jahan had a quiet year, all things considered. The fall of the Ursai to
Neo-Ennannatum was an unfortunate development all things considered, and it has removed a vital buffer from the heathen runestone lovers who sacrifice good Eurus worshipers. A new crown has been crafted for the rulers of Jahan, a crown dedicated to a new empire that embraces the light of Eurus. Before, the Imperium would protect Eurus worshipers. Now, perhaps that duty falls to the Padizadeh?

Results: +A faithful crown

Padizadeh’s Challenge: The Ursai are defeated, and the barbaric people of Neo-Ennannatum are on our doorstep. Many are worried that instead of Jahan rising to a new empire, it will be the heathens to the north, and this fear has galvanized many citizens to volunteer to take action. These people are the so called “Light Brigade” and your advisors have a few ideas of what could be done with them. Our chief engineer has mentioned that extra labor could help building fortifications, while the captain of your guard has offered to drill them into fine soldiers. The headsmen of Xatrastan has mentioned a few extra bodies to bring in the harvest would be useful, and an alchemist has asked for test subjects to try out new potions he has created. We only have the ability to pursue one path, how should the Light Brigade be directed?

Koritates

Spoiler :
The years started kindly to Koriates. An alliance was secured with the powerful Belois kingdom, and the wedding celebration between Duncan ea Malain and Devicia of Belois was a welcomed celebration for both realms.

However, tragedy would strike soon after, when the rulers of Koriates decided to investigate the strange noises in the defunct silver mine, with consequences disregarded. As the rubble was cleared, the noises grew louder and some of the workers fled the work site. Eventually, the rubble was cleared and a small scouting party went to explore the clearing. Almost immediately the scouts were beset upon, and those outside the mine heard terrified screams. Only one scout survived the encounter, and he has been too shaken up to say anything at all. Many wonder what the Lady was thinking when she ordered the mine opened...

Results: -3 LG, -1 Light Infantry

Lady’s Challenge: This...whatever “this” is, has proven itself to be dangerous, and many of our people are clamoring for action. Some of our military commanders have suggested we rush into the cave and kill whatever it is quickly before it can do any more harm. Some of our priests have cried out against killing what lies in the cave though, arguing that it should be lured out and captured, while other priests have said that we should not do anything aggressive at all, but rather leave tribute nearby the mine in the form of food and sacrifices. One of our hunters has suggested that it may be safer to scare whatever lies in the cave with fire and loud singing and dancing to ensure it does not leave the cave. What say you, my Lady?

Lorem

Spoiler :
If one were to look at the Ipsum family, you would hardly know the Imperium was on the verge of collapse, as they conquered and feasted, watched gladiators and celebrated. Three slaves entered the Ipsum household; the Doctore Punio and his wife and child. While the latter two have become domestic helpers, the Doctore has immediately gotten to work organizing the new lanista, purchasing slaves and training them to be fighters in the arena. Greater fortune came though when Iuvenis Ipsum marched north to conquer the slave rebellion raging in Rachis. Though some casualties were sustained among the auxiliaries, the victory has many in Lorem hopeful about the future once more.

Battle Results: -1 Auxiliary unit, +3 slaves
-3 ep for ????
+1 Senate Favor

Domina’s Challenge: Your victory over Rachis has netted you several new fighters; including your newest slave, the former “Rex” or Rachis, Zendyr. Your Doctore, Punio, has bled them in private matches, and feels that you have enough fighters whom are capable of stepping foot in a real arena with a screaming crowd of Imperials. However, as luck would have it, the arenas in Lorem are not in the best of shape. The pride of the city used to be the Golden Theater, where not only gladiators, but actors and singers would also perform. It could be a significant cost up front, but not only would you be able to save on travel costs, but you would also be able to take a higher share of revenues from game days. And, as an added bonus, you’d be able to host influential Senators, which could help build your clout with Sanctus. What say you? (5 ep, 5 IC minimum to rebuild the Theater, more will make it nicer, max of 15 ep/15 IC)

Mariniasula

Spoiler :

The battle for Mariniatoni dominated the politics of Tigris, and the Pecunias family did not disappoint their subjects. The fighting was fierce against the former slaves, but in the end, a charge led by the commander, Maria Pecunias, ensured the day was won. The ladies of Pecunias were, for the moment at least, benign conquerors though, and many were surprised that the province did not suffer wholesale enslavement. The admiral from the Senate has begun work on the new dock facilities, though initial construction has been slow. It is hoped that the conquest of Mariniatoni will help bring in additional resources so that the Strategos can return to Sanctus sooner rather than later.

Battle Results: -1 Auxiliary unit, +1 Senate Favor

Dominus’ Challenge: Our island is well known for great cats, but on one of our hunting parties, we saw a legendary creature: a massive white tiger. The tiger is larger than any cat we have ever seen, and hunting it could bring much glory. However, one of our priests wonders if the tiger is an animal that holds the blessings of Eurus, and cautions that hunting it could earn us the wrath of the Goddess. How should we proceed?

Mauryia

Spoiler :

Queen Dorio spent much of her treasury improving her queendom, particularly the fortifications needed to stave off the vaunted imperial legionnaires from both north and south. Thankfully, neither of the two imperial principes had any intention of attacking yet, allowing Dorio to further consolidate her land and power. Mines were expanded, forts were erected, and her son Ruggero had been doing more than his fair share of….encouraging the garrisons.

Results: +1 IC in Province 53. Maurianya, +1 fortification in Province 52. Euruselucia

Queen’s Challenge: Several village headsmen have been complaining about the disappearance of their young men, and you believe it may be the work of your son’s “recruiting expeditions”. Some of your advisors have suggested that you order Rugerro to cease his actions for a few years, but he will likely not take well to that. Other advisors have suggested we simply bribe the headsmen to keep quiet, and hope that they can keep the peace while ensuring too many questions are not being asked. What say you?

Neo-Ennannatum

Spoiler :
They say “those who strike first, strike hardest”. While it has yet to be seen if Neo-Ennannatum has struck hardest, they have indeed struck first. The Ursai, former subjects of the empires that dominated the isle, had little desire to become a conquered people once more, but with the massive armies of Neo-Ennannatum attacking, the Ursai were hopelessly overmatched. They still did inflict heavy casualties on the Ennannatumian invaders, but in the end, fell to the God King’s armies.

At home, the era of tolerating Eurus worshipers amongst the ziggurats is at an end. Those who sang the songs of a false goddess, those who did not heed the teachings of the runestones, they were given a choice; convert, or sacrifice. Few chose to turn their back upon the Goddess, and so the priests went to work, sacrificing the heathens in the name of the Old Gods. This has been met with some discomfort by the populace, but at night, when the God King sleeps, he hears singing in his dreams, happy singing. This surely must be a sign that Neo-Ennannatum is favored.

Results: -5 LG, -1 MP You hear singing. +Attention of the Goddess
Battle Results: -3 LI, +4 slaves

God King’s Challenge: We have won a great victory over the pathetic Ursai! It seems we were favored by the runestones, and our empire is growing once more. We now have plenty of slaves to take back to our homes to work our farms, and your priests have a suggestion for some of the excess captives; sacrifice. If we were to take some slaves and sacrifice them atop the ziggurats, this would surely please the Old Gods...and perhaps the runestones will keep singing those songs...

Tarrabellum

Spoiler :
The Strabo family entered into alliance with their neighbors, the Caudex, in an effort to remove any threats from their southern flank. The new alliance was cemented with a joyous wedding celebration, and then an equally exuberant military campaign against the slave revolt of Iberia. Though Tarrabellum may not have gained any territory as of yet, the alliance may pay significant dividends down the road, so long as the Caudex do not remain the only beneficiary of the alliance.

In the city itself, there is some disquiet over the refusal to sanctify the Hallowed Quarter, and the Arch Priestess has left for Iris, with other business that needed attending to. Some denizens are whispering that dark spirits are growing more powerful in the city...

Results: -3 LG
Battle Results: +1 Senate favor

Dominus’ Challenge: There is a growth of disquiet in the city over the presence of the Hallowed Quarter. Children have been found outside their homes, trying to get in the quarter, and when confronted, seem to have no idea what is going on. Dogs have been barking, cats have been disappearing, and in general strange things are happening. Many in the town say that these incidents are the work of dark spirits in the Hollowed Quarter, and your advisors are unsure of what they should do. Some have suggested simply burning the Hallowed Quarter, while others feel that this is an old wives tale, and that an increase in patrols is all that needs to be done. Others too have suggested we reach out to Iris or the Church in Sanctus to see if any priestesses could investigate the issue. Each option could have consequences, but not acting at all could be even worse. What should we do? (Patrols would require the loss of 1 Auxillary Infantry)

The Gökan Horde

Spoiler :

Our tribe has arrived at the holy site of Lesbos as we migrated south, prompting a clash with the powerful kingdom of Tyis. It was a bloody, brutal affair, but in the end, our forces persevered and won the day. Some of our kinsmen have already put down roots in the newly conquered province, but the Grand Khan should know that we must continue on for further glory.

Battle Results: -3 Raiders, +5 EP

Khan’s Challenge: Your runestone has been humming softly since we arrived in Lesbos, no doubt due to the holy nature surrounding the area. In one of your dreams, you see yourself taking your son into your arms before plunging a dagger through his heart, allowing his blood to drip on your runestone. You believe these disturbing dreams are just a byproduct of being in Lesbos, but one of your priests has suggested that taking the dream literally could infuse your runestone with great power, though it is an admittedly despicable act. What say you?

Thraykia

Spoiler :

The banner of the legendary 15th Legion made an appearance among our own troops as we invaded the province of Gallo. The banner rose spirits among the troops significantly, so much so that the rebels in Gallo had no chance of stopping Domina Helina’s legionnaires, though thankfully she was merciful in her conquest. At home, the Domina’s councillors ensured that she would have a strong economy to draw from. And, perhaps most importantly, Alba has left us alone for now, seemingly have bigger battles to fight.

Battle Results: Absolute victory, +1 Senate Favor

Domina’s Challenge: After the conquest of Gallo, some of the wealthier citizens have noticed that among our new subjects are some of their former slaves. This would not be the wholesale enslavement of the populace, but rather of a select few individuals. While doing this would please many of our wealthy citizens, it could cause some unrest among those in Gallo. How should we proceed?

Quintus Bucinum

Spoiler :
It’s so good being Quintus. Business is booming and nothing bad is happening at all. If you were to rate your rule over this province you’d give it a X out of X. Truly, you are the best. It doesn’t matter what the poets say.

Results: +5 ep, -3 LG
-2 ep for ????

Dominus’ Challenge: One of the poets who has been saying mean and very unfair things to you has truly crossed the line when he declares that you have abandoned your duty to the Senate, to Eurus, and to Sanctus. Your advisors agree that this poet must be silenced, but how? Sending in the troops could be an easy way to take care of the situation, but one of your advisors suggests leading an unruly mob to beat and hang the poet. While this could get messy, it could also provide a unifying event for the populace. What say you?

Udrogothi

Spoiler :
A wedding feast to celebrate the union of the Udrogothi and the Breccia tribes made for a fine way to prepare for war. The Breccia unified under Udrogothi leadership, and in the battle for Eurusdunum, proved their worth against the Tamrian forces. The Tamrians have already called for peace, and some in our tribe wonder if we should take their offer so we can continue on to richer lands…

Results: +2 LI, +2 MP
Battle Results: -3 Raiders

King’s Challenge: In Eurusdunum, there is a temple complex housing numerous priestesses. While it is not a holy site, many of our own wisemen have spoke of sacrificing the priestesses to please our gods and to grow our runestone’s power. However, this would likely anger not only the Eurus worshiping kings in the area, but could also tempt the Goddess herself to look down upon us. How should we proceed?
