Chapter One: Chaos in Ilos
Ilos, the crowded peninsula in southeastern Euthia, saw a short, but bloody war between the empire of Anotona and the maritime province of Menados. Anotona struck first, asserting claims to the southern part of the peninsula that had not yet come under dominion of either party. Anotona began to build small forts at chokepoints to hold the area defensively. Menados soon became aware of these defensive structures and with great fury, they attacked each one. Anotona was not surprised by the attack, but the utter shock of all forts being assaulted at once sent shockwaves throughout the empire. Each village raised small forces to join the main one, commanded at the time by the great Anotonian War-Hero Pacirus. Pacirus and his forces quickly solidified their position and held of invading Menadans, while at the same time coordinating the resupplying of the forts. Despite having more troops, Menados lost key positions one after another and went back to come up with a better plan. The war cooled down a bit as both sides drew their next card.
Northern Ilos was far more tranquil, with Herakossus far too aloof to be aware of the conflict, and Varsos being too busy trading with Athus and Nassarus to be able to take a side in it. Further north, Draesonia expanded considerably and ran into a new neighbor, Sufona which was a small kingdom upriver from Draesonia. A bit cautious at first, Sufona began to offer small trade deals and eventually prominent traders from both societies became well acquainted and a solid bond was formed. The peninsula west of Ilos remained mostly unchanged, save for some expansion by the inhabitants. Off the coast, an island nation of Tyrasimus was formed. To their south, on the northern coast of Afantira, the small empire of Vatia formed near the prospering Qarpa'i empire. Even further west, the isolated kingdoms began to trade a bit. Specifically, Johannia settled around the nearby river and eventually contacted the young kingdom of Corassus. Plishti also made some travels along the coastline and came into contact with Corassus. After a few years, a slow triangle of trade came into existence and the isolation faded with each shipment of wheat crossing hands. In the northern island, peace was existent, but it seemed that some conflict was on the horizon. Wealn, a barbarous culture of human sacrifice and star-worship positioned itself between Corval and Melia and interrupted trade by establishing checkpoints where traders were in some cases captured, tortured, enslaved, or even killed on the spot.
Northern Melusa was a stagnant region, with the only major occurrences being the foundation of Demir and the expansion of Larasus. Southern Melusa, however, was a completely different story. The region underwent a technological golden age, with Zadrunuch and Eneshur each discovering pottery, the art and method of creating ceramic containers and related contraptions. Zadrunuch was the first, and this came from the need to store excess grain grown along the banks of the river. The secret didn't remain with Zadrunuch for long, because Eneshuri spies returned to Eneshuri capital, Sathanuk, with an idea of how to emulate the Zardun techniques. After years of trial and error, Eneshur reached the same level of Zadrunuch technologically, and a rivalry was formed. A new state to the north, Athribuk also showed interest in developing pottery. Kutakml citizens quickly learned of the new technology and demonstrated in front of the Sakhan's home to convince him to authorize attempts to discover the secrets of pottery.
Western Ashaja was quiet except for the creation of Nagdor and Bhurasai, and a movement in Drattemaja related to a religion called Mirash, which was a devotion to the personality of a magical man named Mira, who did things like conjure food out of thin air, levitate, and see into the future quite accurately. They followed his every decision to the last detail, and when he passed away, the Drattemaji capital of Azunottimpong came under a huge riot, with people killing each other and destroying buildings. Eventually, things calmed down, with Mirash splitting into two branches, one which would attain followers through coercion, and one with would do so through friendly means. Eastern Ashaja was more active, with the settlement of Hanku in the north and Zaraxes Zarazia (called Zharya by foreigners) on a nearby peninsula, and a growing tension between Tinus and and Guzhon over trade policies. Yokosaka had a rough time diplomatically on their island as well, with Orohoki upset over Yokosaka claiming certain lands despite the lands being free in the eyes of the Orohoki. Also, Fugarashi, a state strongly opposed to Yokosaka expansion, formed in the south.
Finally, Wiixk'oltzan was fairly dormant. The only events of note were the creation of Ekmu in the south, and Qaxt'i expanding across the waters to a large island within reach. Although still showing similarities between the tribal age and the newer age, even Wiixk'oltzan was beginning to change. Around the rest of the world, with things such as pottery's invention and dramatic fighting in Ilos, few people could even remember what it was like to be a nomad.
