Dont buy Civ5 : Dont be the sheep

Seriously, Elizabeth, I wouldn't bother answering any more of evrett's posts-he has consistently proven himself to be rude & obnoxious-to you & to everyone who doesn't agree with him-& it really does leave me wondering why he bothers hanging around the Civ5 Forum given that he apparently has no plans on buying the game.

Not one of the anti-whatever brigade have ever said "I will not be playing the game." They have only stated they wont be buying it.

I have my own protest about the price us Aussie are being charged for the game. I will buy it, just not on release. When the price come down I'll get it, hopefully it will have the inevitable few bugs patched by then.

So then they'd be pirating it (Otherwise they'd have to install steam). I'm pretty sure anyone who says "I'm not/didn't buy it" and continues posting about the game after its release will be suspicious.

I'm not happy about the price either, though its not much more than what I paid for Civ4 back in 2005. What angers me is that, with virtual parity between our dollars, the price should be much closer to the RRP in the US. Personally, though, I reckon that is a decision made by retailers (who take us Aussies as a bunch of mugs), not the Publishers or Developers. Could be wrong though.

You are not preparing answers for us - that doesnt take a month+. You are preparing "exclusives" or waiting for who ever lined your pockets for the right to release that info first. You cant even answer that honestly. Since Firaxis clearly no longer has any say in its product I dont think there is anything wrong with kicking 2K out of this nest.

Its creatures like you that are in charge of the civ legacy now...and since we as fans have chosen not to even come to the game - the legacy with be exploited and dragged through the mud.

QUOTE=2K Elizabeth

A lot of people on these boards know me, have seen or heard me online, and a bunch of you have met me in person. I think they can attest to me not being what you say, but if you ever get a spare moment, you might want to google me and find out for yourself. ;)

As for your ideas of what hostility can solve here, I don't think much of anything - particularly since we aren't in a bloody war! But if you have a question, let me know - that way I can do my job for you.

We are in a war against your style of marketing and disinformation. Some soldiers fight with guns others fight with words.

So who is this *we* evrett? The same imaginary people you took to your imaginary protest? You don't fight with words or guns-you "fight" by simply being a troll. Just answer a simple question-if Steam is such a put off to you that you don't even plan on playing the game, then we are you still even hanging out at these threads? I don't mind you wasting YOUR time, but you're wasting time & space at this forum with your frequent, childish little rants!

Because Civ+Steam+DLC today doesn't just end at Civ 5. Gotta think broad and long term consequences to the whole industry not just this franchise. If they get a wind in their sales, whats the next beloved series to be exploited?

I care about the game I grew up with..not what these money grubbers have warped it into. I'm not going to sit back and pick my nose while Civ's reputation is used to bootstrap some social media marketing scheme.

Hmm, that would imply you Grew up-to date I've yet to see any proof that this is the case. You're just "all mouth & no trousers", as the saying goes. Online registration is simply the way things are these days-not just to play computer games, but to join web-sites & to open e-mail accounts. Its not as if Firaxis or 2K are even making you pay extra money to register the game. If they were, or if they were demanding you be logged into Steam 24/7, then maybe you'd have a point. Instead you come off as a whiner who just needs *something* to whinge about. Seriously, if you hate this Brave New World so much, then my only suggestion is you go "off the grid". The sooner you do, the happier people like myself will be.

I answered your question now you answer mine. "Simply the way things are these days". What do you base this on? I'm a civ 4 player and online registration was not required for my copy. If it is the way things are who determines this ? Are we required to just comply with "the way things are"? In the civilopedia, how many times are people involved in changing "the way things are"? And when "the way things are" was changed how many times was it done successfully in a civil conversation over tea?

Ummm... the way things are these days?

Absolutely? No. Practically? Yes.

So you're going to resort to violence(or civil disobedience) over Steam? Seriously, why am I the one being moderated?

I think this is a valid point - if you guys feel like you aren't involved enough in the conversation, let me or Greg know and we'll work on that for you. I know we're already working on getting Q&As and articles together for some of the topics people have mentioned, but they aren't live yet - but if there's something in particular you want to see, speak up so we don't miss it.

I have posted a reply here.

I think you have answered your own question earlier. The Shepard of course. ;)

Hey Elizabeth, just ignore everit. Try not to let him get under your skin. I for one thank you for the extra information, but just wish you'd stop by WePlayCiv every so often to say "hi". ;)

You keep using that word (we), I do not think it means what you think it means.:)

Enough obscure movie references, I think ciV will be great and I will certainly buy it. Lay of of Firaxis and 2k there not "evil corporations" or something, in particular lay off of 2k liz, she's just doing her job.

We are in a war against your style of marketing and disinformation. Some soldiers fight with guns others fight with words.

And some people fight pathetic and delusional little internet wars?

You will not change anything. This is not a major social or political issue. You're one lone person ranting on and on about some issue you don't like, and you have about as much credibility as some guy who absolutely insists the government is actually controlled by aliens hell bent on conquering this world.

Do not compare this 'fight' for what you want over the Boston Tea Party, for crying out loud. This discussion is in the interest of 1000 people across the country, and thats being generous. And if we lose? We will never be granted freedom by Steam.

Where are the muskets I'm taking it those English SOBs. FREEDOM!

This is NOT a war. Don't compare it to that. Every argument I have isn't a war. Giving in to the other side when presented with hundreds of arguments is nothin to be ashamed of.

I sometimes wish that there could be less threads dedicated to principles and arguing over whether what a GAME developing company does is socially acceptable and more dedicated to actually discussing the game we love. I.E. not whether or not are lives have been ruined by some slight change in game distribution policies.

We've seen these complaints a hundred times, and its extremely clear that they are so hopeless. CIV 5 will require Steam always, because the game is based on their engine, Steamworks.

No war ? Did ya miss the financial crisis ? Cause that was a about marketing and about building big social systems in order to make profit. Have you paid much attention to mental health issues? Children are the fastest growing customer for big pharma ? What is that about ? Also Marketing. How about the Iraq war ? Marketing Marketing Marketing. Its in the game industry too if you read the articles I posted. Industry has stopped being about making a good product and become about roping in large population indefinably. Toyota tried that.."brand loyalty" its called..where did it get them ? Red Bull gives you wings right ? And heart valve replacements..and I can go on. We need to draw a line here.

Yes its juts a game. But its more than that. Its a behavior/attitude we dont want in our game, in our industry, in our schools, in our banks, in our politics ect ect. One big effort is made up of all sorts of really small efforts. This is part of mine.

All it takes for the bad people to win is for people like you and me to beleive in your "hopelessness" and give up without trying. Thats what they want - chew the grass and stare at your feet like a good little sheep. Nothing going on here (buzz buzz buzz)
