Don't call people Scandinavians (split from Very Many Questions 32)

There you foreigners go again, assuming "Scandinavia" is a useful term for anything
So what term do you prefer?

I guess it's like the assumption a lot of Europeans have that it's okay to call Canadians "Americans" just because both countries speak English and happen to be on the same continent.

you just simply never talk about "scandinavia" or "scandinavians" and you'll be fine

That hardly answered the question, Lohrens.

then you're bad at reading

I'm asking an honest question, and it would be courteous to give an honest answer.
I did
It's not my fault if you're bad at perception

I perceive that you are never going to give me a proper answer to anything, and will just post rude one-liners that don't mean anything to anyone but yourself.

From my perspective, there is nothing dirty or profane or insulting about the word "Scandinavians." From my Canadian perspective, it's useful to refer to a general way to the region of Europe that includes Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

If it's some sort of ethnic slur, enlighten us, and I'll be sure to pass it along to StatsCan so they can make sure nobody uses it in the census.

It's like how "dog" is not a useful term because sometimes dogs are different sizes or colours, so could not possibly be described using a single word.

You're questions have been unpolite and unreasonable responses to me

WTH do you mean helpful
I asked you why you're "innately" more qualified to discuss the correct spelling of "Leif Eriksson" and I asked you to explain why you don't want people to use the term "Scandinavian." Instead of answering, you just throw rudeness back.

"Helpful" = Helping people to learn something new. I'm giving you the opportunity to teach us something about word usage. It's rare that I ask questions that I don't honestly want to know the answers to, so just assume this is one of those times.

But "dog" is useful in some situations, just not in others. Not so with "Scandinavia"? I mean "Europe" is useful in a lot of contexts.

And sometimes the conversation doesn't need to be that specific. For example, I'm seriously thinking of getting a kitten. Have I flown off the handle because nobody has asked if I'm getting a DSH, DMH, DLH, tuxedo, tabby, tortoiseshell, calico, black, white, grey, Siamese, etc.?

Nope. The only things that have come up in conversation is whether I'm getting a boy or girl. There are pros and cons of both choices.

It's true I haven't asked questions, but you've been rude too

dunno, I feel like I've given all the necessary information

Lohrens, if you are actually trying to impart knowledge to someone, snappy one-liners never help. They just come across as rude.
