They deserve to perish in the storm of fire and brimstone that shall consume all the evil-DLC-doers and cleanse them from the earth. For this crime even his children and his children's children shall not be without punishment.

one day, all of Pdox's dev diaries will consist of the poor devs' sad children. have you no heart, sir?

Aztecs being deliberately cut out for day one mini DLC = me declaring a bloody vendetta on the developers!

I WILL NEVER PLAY CIV6 UNTIL THE AZTECS ARE FREE

Not only are the Aztecs a preorder bonus; they're unlocked for everybody sixty days later. 2K Games is an absolute POS sometimes. I sincerely doubt the developer wanted that, because the developers legtimately seem to love the series. No, it is 2K I'm blaming.

I never minded Paradox DLC until I bought Stellaris because that really didn't feel like a complete game. You could almost see the holes where DLC should slot in later.

But since my Dad has decided he wants to get me Civ6 for Christmas I don't really need to worry about Aztecs because they will presumably be free by then.

I think that maybe there are so many Paradox DLCs at what feels like such high prices because most people only buy them on sale? So maybe they deliberately price them up because they know the majority of sales will be a 75% off.

Ding ding ding.

Which is why they're still not totally worth their sale prices.
That looks awesome. Glad someone picked up the setting Creative Assembly kept ignoring.

I heard the guy behind this was the team lead for M2.

Reaper's due does add cool stuff.
Which I like because somehow after 400+ hours I can still find that game interesting.

Whereas I found Stellaris boring after less than 8. Which is really sad because I feel I should like it given the setting and ideas.

Yeah. Even I think the game is lacking in many ways, which is why I'm mainly playing with the AlphaMod, this game's C2C. I have high hopes for Heinlein + Leviathans though.

The reason I don't mind EU4 DLC much is that it's pretty much continued development of their game. They keep supporting it these many years later instead of doing EU5. And at this point I really don't want EU5 to be a thing. I wanted EU4 to be a thing because EU3 looked like arse sandwich. EU4 has pretty graphics. It even loads faster at this point. (Although it took a long time for them to fix the loading time)

Day one DLC blocking stuff like Aztecs is the Antichrist. Cosmetic day one DLC is more forgivable (since it's usually stuff the art team does after they don't have any more to do, this is a way to convert an opportunity cost into customer stuff, but it costs money therefore DLC costs money). Of course a lot of times the cosmetic stuff is actually not produced that way, as such being much less OK.

EDIT: Of course free development and support is preferable to DLC and a lot of times the EU4 DLC hasn't had enough content to warrant the price, but in the abstract I don't mind them as much as other companies doing it. My problem is mostly the content to price ratio. Every three DLC should really have been two a lot of the time.

Yesterday's Rights of Man feature stream was pretty damning on Johan. He and Yake were talking about how people stop playing games before the release of an expansion, and Johan said 'imagine how it is for me, thinking two expansions ahead! I want these features in now!" Well, you bloody moneysucker, why dont you do just that?

EDIT: also the Aztecs are only preorder excusive for two or three months, which is pretty silly if you ask me.

Paradox is a company, not a charity. The last thing anybody actually wants is Paradox rushing out features planned two expansion packs down the line out today because a vocal minority demands it.

Because the expansions aren't finished yet. :p

i still prefer Eu3. Eu4 is good because everything is nice and easy for me, but Eu3 was much faster and simpler for me.

also, it doesn't have the stupid mana system.

I don't get the hate on power. It's an abstraction as much as the EU3 gold sink is.

Precisely, I prefer EU4 partially because the mana system diverts from the ludicrously single-minded gold slider system.

Also I am not saying that they should release those features when they are not ready, but that more substantial expansion packs would also be more satisfying. Certainly my wording was terrible.

I'd like to backtrack a little on my rant (disclaimer: I was stuck at home with flu and bored :o )

I do agree with Angst, it is good that EU4 is still being developed (and I definitely prefer the graphics style), even if the DLC situation is a little confused, and prohibitively expensive to buy the lot outside of a steam sale.

The fact that the Aztecs *will* be free in CIV6 is good, but still I dislike the encouragement of pre-orders, even for a dev team with a generally good track record.

I'm actually pretty excited for Civ6, it looks like a much more complete experience at the get go than Civ5 was.
