Down With The British!

Down with the Red coats! Yay independence! lol jk although I do have a weird phobia of British people even though I am part British along with a bunch of other stuff...

The worst thing is that they prefer the horrific, abominable, atrocious and gruesome sport of baseball above the noble game of cricket.
Football - real football - American football - is this here country's national pastime. Baseball's a joke. And cricket isn't all that bad. It's funny to watch Harbhajan Singh get banned all the time, he's like Perfy back in the day.

My God was Thomas Jefferson was lazy. He makes pretty extraordinary claims here, and he should provide and extraordinary argument, but no. He didn't even bother to provide any meaningful argument at all. He just say that it's so.

Okay, so why didn't the British respond like this: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created to serve us, that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Guns, Power and the pursuit to dominate the Americas through force." The British did make such claims, after all, they believed that their king or queen, those spoiled and well-dressed mammals, had the God bestowed right to rule over his or her subjects. The American leadership, apparently, believed that all men had a god given right to Liberty, life and to the pursuit of happiness (and right to own women and negroes, of course). On who's side was God, that celestial dictator?

But anyway, of course the founding fathers didn't believe that these were universal or unalianable rights, Thomas Jefferson just wrote it that way, because it sounds better, to claim that certain rights are universal and unalianable, rather than just scribbling something like: "look, we want the following: blah,blah, blah, and traffs at this level, and anti-dumping legislation, etc".

What would it have changed? The Declaration of Independence was a polemic, and people are going to be angry with the British or happy with them based on the not so oft-quoted stuff that got put later on in the document. "These dudes did this stuff to us, we don't like it, we're pissed, screw them, we want 'em to leave." We just quote it now because it's iconic, but that doesn't mean it was supposed to sway people with a well-reasoned philosophical argument.

You mean slaves right? Because not all slaves were black and not all slave owners were white. There were free blacks too you know. There were even black CSA soldiers who fought for the south. Not forced slaves.

Right! Then they were violating those peoples liberty too!

Why can you not just admit that they were hypocrites as well as the founding fathers?

"Oh, I'm sorry negra, women and other various minorities, but we believe we are superior to you by birthright, so no cigar."

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness? That's what you quoted from me and said that the South was only trying to achieve that. And they were. Or were the founding fathers not fighting for Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness either because they were oppressors of slaves too.
