Dr.NES - The D.O.O.M. Project

OOC: @ Vert I am guessing that your writing your character as a know-it-all d!ck, which is fine, My character isn't meant to be likable either. But take note that my character has her laptop stashed away in her backpack and not easily accessible. Next time your character goes gropping around her without permission she will take violent action against him, no matter what the reasoning.

OOC: She was just using it earlier so I assumed it was still out. I apologise. My character is meant to be a scientist so yes you could say he is meant to be a know-it-all d!ck. I assume that any one of our characters could use a laptop to find a website and log into said website or is that too big an assumption to make? If you want I will modify my statement so that she looks it up instead.

EDIT: The above is sincere HunterG24 so do not take as an attack on you or sarcastic in any way. I will cut back on the amount my character does and says from now on.

Doc, may I recommend taking a blood sample when you are finished patching him up?

Also, if he needs/will be evacuated, I would be willing to stay back for assistance.

Yeah, I will.

Niki gets one of his MedPacks out of the backpack.

"OK, let's see that injury, Miguel. Damn, guys, why won't you be more careful?" Niki muttered as he checked Miguel's left arm. The deep gashes in it would get infected if it wasn't treated soon. Fortunately, his medical pack had enough supplies to treat any kind of non-life threatening injuries, so he opened it and started to disinfect the surface of the injuries, using cotton and peroxide. Once that was done, he took out the needle and thread and knitted the sides of the worst injuries with care (Miguel was KO, so he didn't feel anything) and when that was done, he bandaged them tightly enough to keep the injuries from opening again, but not too much that it would stop the blood from going up and down from the arm. He also did what Vicente had said, and used a syringe to take a blood sample. This would have to be sent soon out, even if Miguel had to stay.

As the most important part was done, he started to do the same with the rest of the injuries Miguel had. Fortunately, these were superficial, so there would be no need to knit them, but Miguel would still have to wear bandages in those places and change them every eight hours to keep them clean.

"I've done what I could. All his injuries have been disinfected, and I have had to knit close the worst, which were in his left arm, but I think that he won't lose it. He might have to be sent on the boat back to the civilization, as these injuries have to be checked over every few hours, and we won't be able to do that in here if we are going to be in constant movement. The blood sample I took from him, just in case something big happens, will have to be sent out anyway, because I don't have the required equipment to analyse it. What do you think, Ruben? Should we send Miguel back?"

{OOC: Whew, leave for a day, and look what happens.}

Ruben is clearly irritated by this turn of events, but he keeps his calm demeanor. Rather than lashing out at Miguell or or admonishing the scouting team for insisting on going up ahead, he quietly hangs back and ponders matters. Finally, he speaks.

"This is a tough decision. You've all got good points, but we need to keep the unintended consequences of our actions in mind. Firstly, Sarge, it's clear that you're capable of leading, but I've got another task in mind for you. When it comes time to evac our wounded, I'm putting you in charge of getting them out of here safely. Niki remains my second in command.

"As to Miguell, we'll get him out of here, but not quite yet. We'd have to split the squad further to send him back to the village, and we'd be leaving our scouting team behind, too. Furthermore, if we've got any human enemies out there, they'll have heard the gunshot, and we could get ambushed at any moment - we have to regroup as soon as possible. Once he's been stabilized, we'll cart him to Village B and spend a few hours there, where we'll search the area and keep tabs on Miguell's condition.

"We'll get back to the mission before dark, but I'm not thinking that we should call Captain Valentine back just yet. For one thing, it'd take him a long time to get here, and for another, every hour he spends in the area is an hour that we risk losing our primary means of extraction. I don't want to radio Captain Valentine unless it's a matter of life and death. Miguell will have to stay with us a few days. Someone give him a pistol he can use with his good arm when he wakes up."

Lurker's Comment: You never, ever, split the party. This is what you get.

Edit: {OOC: Unfortunate crosspost. :p I agree with the broad scope of Sarge's suggestions, though, so it works.}

OOC: Me being 2nd in command is not confirmed by Ruben but I will start things off.

First off I want those who are healthy and have no wounds to establish a perimeter around the squad. I do not have to stress the importance of keeping an eye open.

Sarge turned and pointed at Niki, "Doctor, since you are chief medical officer of our squad you will stay with Miguel and fix him up as best as you can. If you need help please ask the another medic."

He turned towards the rest of the squad and ordered that they form a circle and move approximately 50 yards out. As to give the good doctor room to establish his mobile office and do what he can. He then turned and faced Ruben, "Sir, I ask that you either recall the advance guard back here or order them to hunker down for the next 2-3 hours. By my calculations they should be a mere 30 minutes away from us."

Sarge then got on the comm, "Scouting party at Village B, check call!"
After all members reported in, he responded, "Pending orders from O'Neill I want you guys to find a nice concealed location in the jungle with clear view of the village and monitor the activity there. Please refrain from using the Comm and above all stay quiet and do not eat. The food will attract the animals. If O'Neill does not report in, expect the rest of the squad to be at your position in 4 hours. Sarge Out."
After receiving the 10-4 Sarge proceeded to bark out the remaining orders.

"Allright boys! And girl. Lets get the job done without losing another man. If the doctor thinks Miguel can survive a few days without a real hospital then the mission continues as planned. We have already lost a good chunk of time and possibly compromised our mission. So once Miguel is fixed and the doctor gives us the nod, this will be our marching order:

OOC: I am confused from the update, who is with the main group and who is the advance group?

 I got 4 posts while doing my story... well I will leave it and Ruben can take what he wants from it.

OOC: Please understand that I am not angry, just wanted to point out that your character's rude behaviour would end up causing problems. I am not even saying that you should stop as this is the way you want your character to be, just be sure that when you write with other characters that you realize that other characters won't bend over and take it. Especially not soldiers of fortune as we all are.

As for the story, I let it stand as it is without modification.

OOC: His character reminds me of the Civ4 Great Scientist, wringing his hands and snuffing his nose. :P

IC: Terni heard Sarge's call but it was a little stretched out: Why? He already prepared a cleared spot for defence and settled in.

He hopes no more inidents will happen as he drank more of the Geleton breakfast.

Orders were to stay put and after the incident in the jungle, Nigel was going to obey it. However Nigel wanted a better view of the village, from higher up. "Marcus", Nigel turned to Marcus. "Give me the binoculars, I'm going to climb that tree to get a better view of the surrounding terrain. Can you give me a boost?"

Nigel in his past life worked in the logging business for 5 years in Oregon after his dishonorable discharge from the British Army.

"Niki, I have an idea of how we could give a rough analysis of the blood sample here. We would need another blood sample, so we still have one to send to civilisation, a good set of legs, so we can centrifuge the blood, and my microscope, which is in a padlocked box back at camp along with several dyes for staining slides. This would be grossly inaccurate but still it would be better than waiting around for weeks for a lab back home to send us the results."

"Alright, up you go. Just try to stay hidden. I don't want another person attacked because of me...." Marcus handed him the binoculars and boosted him up.

Marcus grabbed his radio, "Ruben, still no sign of any hostilies in the area, or anyone for that matter. Nigel is going up a tree to get a better look of the area. I'll tell you if he spots something."

OOC @ Mil: What do you think to my idea of how to analyse a blood sample here?

"Well, it could be done, but as you said it would be very innacurate and would probably give us incorrect data regarding what he might have in his blood, but it could work if someone is really fast on his feet, literally. Donald, would you be willing to help Magus and I with this?"

"It would be inaccurate but with Gram staining* should tell us if he has an elevated white-blood count or elevated infectious bacteria in the wound, both of which indicate problems. Bacteria indicate potential infection and warrant the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, antibiotics that affect a wide range of disease causing bacteria, such as levofloxacin; while an elevated white blood cell count indicates a immune response, which could be good or bad and warrants further monitoring."

* A method of staining most pathological bacteria to divide them into two group: Gram-positive and Gram-negative. The counter-stain highlights any cells that are not Gram-positive but any microbiologist worth his or her salt should be able to tell bacteria and white blood cells apart

"Er... Donald the good Dr. Niki and I need you to spin round very quickly holding a vial of blood in your hand. Could do that for us?"

*stares at Doc Niki and Magnus as they try go on about their idea*

"Spinning Irishmen holding blood for science...this I gotta see."

*raises an eyebrow*
