Dr.NES - The D.O.O.M. Project

"Well he is the fastest person here and we don't have a mechanical centrifuge so a spinning Irishman will do just fine."

I'm starting to wish I brought a camera with me. This would be be beautiful for YouTube. Heh...spinning Irishmen...I can put it to that old Dead or Alive song. *giggles devilishly*

See below. I did not think this post had been posted. CFC is slow at the moment.

OOC: Think of a better idea? Anyway it is not vital, as far as I am aware, that blood is centrifuged before it is stained. It is very helpful though as it removes many things that might distorted the picture.

That is exactly what I thought, but I used Damn instead of Darn. But then again nobody ever listens to me anyways so I never "thought" that.

{OOC: Stand back, folks, I'm a physics major.

It'd be smarter to somehow fasten a rope to the vial and spin it around over your head. A 5 mm diameter polypropylene rope can withstand about F = 20,000,000Pa * π * 0.000025m^2 ≈ 1600N of force. Assuming a 5 mL blood sample and a 20g vial, the mass of the weight on the end of the rope should be m = (0.000005m^3 * 1000kg/m^3) + 0.02kg = 0.025kg. Using half a meter of rope, you could reach an angular velocity of ω = (1600N/(0.5m * 0.025kg))^(1/2) = (128,000)^(1/2) ≈ 350s^-1. In revolutions per second, that's f = (350s^-1)/2π ≈ 55Hz. Might want to go with half that to be safe.

That, of course, is assuming I'm working with good starting figures and didn't drop a decimal somewhere. Still, it beats the Amazing Spinning Irishman.

... And in the thread review, I see that Charles Li beat me to it. :wallbash:}

Well..thats no reason not to pull a "Spinning Irishman" (sounds like a cool mixed drink). It sure would be funny to watch.

Donald begins spinning around recklessly. He loses his footing and twists his right ankle.

Nigel is glad he is up a tree. He's not getting involved in this.

OOC: Chand, do you think that would actually be enough to make it work though? That's my main concern is not that the whole idea of the Spinning Irishman is silly (it is), but that it won't work.

And yes, someone whould name a drink the Spinning Irishman.

For Conehead only

Spoiler :
Spoiler :
conehead, as you stare out into the jungle from the tree above, you see something in the distance. Its between the villages, along the path; it doesn't seem to be moving, but it is something...

And yes, someone whould name a drink the Spinning Irishman.

I'm on it! I've already made a beer cocktail from a drinking incident in Narva that turned out to be a smashing success. I am thinking something with Baileys, Creme de Menthe, and seltzer...I will let you know if anything good pops up.

IC:
If someone is going to do the thing with the blood, why not use some rope. I could have swore someone brought rope with them.

Nigel carefully descended the tree he had perched himself upon. He crawled over to Marcus, where he was eating his breakfast. "Down the road, past the village there is something on the trail. I can't tell what it is, but it is not natural and doesn't appear to be moving. However it is out of place from what I can tell. Radio the main group, we have to use caution, we may be watched." I recommend we dig in, and have someone keep an eye on that trail. I'm going to go up another tree, to try to get a better view and watch for any movements

Sarge cannot believe half of the group is filled with idiots who would rather argue than listen to the leader and get the job done.

"For Heaven's sake! Just do it already so we can go out there and complete our mission! If you want to keep arguing I will just turn around and radio for the boat and leave you all alone. I cannot put up with incompetent fools!"

With that Sarge turned around and sat down on a nearby fallen tree and took out his canteen and a MRI and tried to enjoy his food as the team stood in stunned silence.

OOC: If Dr. Niki fixed Miguel is there some way you can inform us if Miguel is capable of continuing the mission with a pistol or if he still requires an evacuation? I don't know who is qualified to make the decision... the Doctor on the thread or the Mod... thanks.

@Charles Li- Been reading a little too much Eoin Colfer lately? ;)

I'm lurking with great interest (just read the entire thread last night), and would love to join- however, we're in the middle of a mission right now, so I can't really see how a new character would be justified. I'll post one, but I can wait until the next time it is appropriate to insert reinforcements.

"Damn, things like this are why they say us scientists don't have common sense," Niki said, searching around for some rope.

"I think that Miguel has rope in his backpack," Magus replied to him.

Niki takes Miguel's backpack and opened it, taking out the rope and closing it again.

"Wanna take care of it while I extract some more blood, Magus? I want to be careful with him, he has already lost too much blood, and he is going to be in a pretty bad state for a couple of days."

Niki searches in the medpack for other syringe and slowly extracts some more blood from Miguel, closing the prick immediately to prevent more loss of blood.

Magus ties the rope around the vial if it is thin enough. If not he teases out enough strands to make some string out of the rope ideally without weakening the rope itself by a major degree.

"Right we have the string and the blood. Where's are Irish man? Also Niki remember to extract the blood from or near to the site of the wound otherwise this won't work."

Turns to the audience

"Surely you all have something better to do than watch a half-baked science experiment being performed in the middle of a jungle?"

OOC: Yea Iggy. Now I almost wish Miguel was evacuated so Iggy could join. Almost but that would be unfair.
