Dr.NES - The D.O.O.M. Project

OOC: I've got a question: do our Goggles have an Infrarred Visor? It would be great to work out with it, as it would give us an edge against the enemy. I know that there are many animals that can't be detected by it, but mostly they are not too fast to become a big threat to us.

Just before he set out to search for any other clue, Niki went to talk with Ruben. "Boss, I think that it might be a good idea if we light a bonfire in the outskirts of the mission. Not to warm us, but so that it acts as a beacon.

"My opinion is that, out there, there are two things that would react to the fire. The first are animals, and they tend to run away from fire, save for the rhinoceros, and there aren't any of those around here.

"The other possibility is that humans might be attracted to it. In that case, we can deal with three possibiliities: a) It's a member of the research team, b) It's a native of the zone, or c) It's someone else. If it is a), then we could talk with him or her and see if he can give us any clues. If b), then we can try to talk with him if he isn't hostile or at least provide him with asylum, and if he is hostile then we could either knock him out so that Magus and I can check him out or, if there is no other choice, we should kill him. If c), then it might be a possible ally or an enemy, and we should act accordingly to the level of threat they might have.

"Since all of us can communicate through our radios (OOC: we have small radios that will allow us to communicate with each other, no?), then the two people in the towers could look every few minutes around the fire and warn the guys downstairs that there is someone near the fire, and if blows come to blows the snipers can kill the hostile with a headshot.

"What do you think?"

As I said before on the boat, we should have a small team venture into the denser jungles surroundings to A.) get used to the terrain B.) make sure there are no immediate threats nearby and C.) see if the research team is there. I volunteer to lead the group, and I know some of you claimed that you would participate when I first asked. Lets get a finalized roster and head out ASAP.

At night?! Are you daft?! If it was morning I would gladly volunteer but going out at night is suicide! We don't even know what is out there yet.

"I would go, however, he is right, why go out at night? We should conserve our firepower until we know what we are facing with. As Suntzu said, 'If you know your enemy better than yourself, then you will have won.' That is not nessessary but I think they know more about us than us about them and we need to learn about their intents, power, and numbers before any major assualts."

"I will say that the beacon would be a good idea, however, we must prepare for anything: what if they use a RPG, if they have some to test out if this is inhabitated? I would build some outer ditches between the ruined walls."

No, no and no. Maybe in daylight we could all venture in to the lighter jungle. We should avoid the dense jungle until we have strong reason to go in there. A recon mission into the jungle looking for the research team would be folly for the dense jungle is one of the most dangerous areas we can go into. The enemy, whoever or whatever that is, will have all the advantages and we may find the research team in one of the villages or lighter jungle.

"There's a possibility you've overlooked, Niki. Our enemies might be too smart to go rushing towards our bonfire. Instead, suppose that whoever sees it goes back to their boss and tells him that someone's infiltrated the jungle and is camped out at the mission. It could give our enemies plenty of time to set up an ambush for us on the way to Village B. I know we have a fair amount of firepower, but for all we know, our enemies have more, and in any case, if we have to fight, I want to do it on our terms. I don't want to give away our position until we absolutely have to. Ideally, we'll remain undetected 'till extraction."

Next, Ruben shakes his head at El Jaguar.

"I don't want to rule out the possibility of a night operation at some point, but there'd be no point to wandering around in the dark without a target. We'll move out all together, tomorrow morning."

OOC:@ Mil I think we can assume we have short-range radios. As for IR goggles; I would assume our night-vision goggles have various options including an IR option.

Magus stands up after sitting in the main hall for a while with a look of displeasure on his face.

"I don't need sleep any more. I will be ready for combat on three-four hours sleep and I cannot sleep longer than six. Don't ask me why this is just accept it and let me take at least one of the shifts and let the others get some rest. I doubt the rest of you can sleep for four hours consistently and rise perfectly alert and ready to fight. Also Ruben I would like to take some scientific equipment off the boat and onto the shore. Is this ok with you?"

Magus then slips back into his own thoughts. He remembered the day his life fell apart forever.

He was thirty-five. One of the greatest biologists of modern time and a constant student with degrees in medicine, physics, biology, maths, several languages, chemistry and psychology and Ph.Ds in biology, maths and physics. He was a certificated genius completing both GCSEs and A-levels at the age of 13 and entering Oxford at the age of 15. He was a member of MENSA and completed every I.Q test he was given with full marks. You would struggle to find a more intelligent man than him except maybe Steven Hawking. He made many contributions to the scientific community and helped change the course of history as he, working in tandem with other esteemed scientists, did the impossible. They managed to slow down the rate of climate change thus buying more time for the human race to go green. It would seem he was destined for greatness but that all changed when he was accused of murder.

"I got to get home. Isabel always stays up for me" thought Magus as he tried to force his way through the crowds. "When did Oxford ever get this busy? It as if the entire city has gone for a walk just as I need to get home." He kept navigating his way through the crowd and ducked down a side-alley to escape them. He saw two figures in the end of the alley and so he readied himself for trouble. He was a brown belt in judo and karate so he was not scared of the men. He continued on his way and the men did not bother him as he had expected but one of them was clearly talking into a hidden mike. "What was going on?"

He was clear of the crowds now and began to jog. Soon he was at the end of his street. Magus heard two loud bangs in the distance, they seems to be coming from his house. "Must have been a car misfiring." He reached his front door. He reached hell.

His youngest daughter was the first thing he saw as he walked into his house. She had clearly been tortured, striped, assaulted and then finally shot dead. He called the names of his other two daughters and his wife. No reply. They had all been killed in the same manner as his youngest daughter. He ran from body to body but they were all dead. "Why would anyone kill my wife or children? Why would anyone want to stop the project? Or could it? No, no that was in the past and ultra top secret no-one would know about that..." He trailed off as he realised something. "Sh*t I've left evidence everywhere."

Suddenly police cars arrive. Magus turns around and faces the front door. The last thing he sees is a TASER being fired at his chest.

He is soon convicted and imprisoned due to the damning evidence against him yet he was innocent. He was on a life sentence without parole and hope. Then his life changed forever and he became Magus. But that is another tale.

Magus comes back to the real world again

The other characters do not know the facts of the above story. This is just general background.

Both assumptions are true, by the way. You have short ranged radios and IF / nightvision goggles.

EDIT: You also have a combat knife, combat vest, other clothing equipment, etc.

"Yeah, feel free to set up your portable lab here, Magus. We'll be operating out of here for a couple of days at least, so as long as you can take it with you when we move out, we might as well prepare it here for whatever we find tomorrow."

"No what I mean is things like microscopes, chemicals, a laptop, Bunsen burners, other bulky scientific equipment I cannot carry around and a few large wire traps to help catch specimens/intruders. My portable lab kit is a bunch of chemical tests, a magnifying glass and a few other handy things such as scalpels, spatulas and distilled water. It is slightly bigger than a first aid kit. I meant enough equipment to set up a proper lab where proper experiments can be conducted to some degree of accuracy. My portable lab kit never leaves my side."

OOC: A little OOC note. I am wearing a thin, light weight chain mail vest under under my normal clothing as it is one of the best protectors against animals hence the jingling earlier. I am wearing thin body armour over the top of my normal clothing. Both are designed to offer maximum protection for minimum weight and discomfort.

"If you unpack that stuff, we might not be able to bring it with us when we move our base of operations from here. I don't see how our enemies could use it against us, so I don't mind if you do it, but keep that in mind. I suppose we can have someone come and pick it up after extraction."

"Captain. I have a feeling that we should not trust the Americans. I don't have proof, but it seems that these guys are not allies"

"Captain. I have a feeling that we should not trust this company that has contacted us. I don't have proof, but it seems that these guys are not allies"

OOC: Wasn't it already established that the company that contacted us was a dummy corporation set up by the United States Government to cover-up this operation and gain some knowledge from us?

At Donald's advice, Ruben adopts a mirthless smirk.

"In our business, if you're trusting anyone, you're doing something wrong. Don't worry. We'll do our job well enough to get paid, well enough to uphold our reputation, and well enough that we all go home, if it's at all possible. Nowhere does that require trusting what's told to us."

On regards to the jungle excursion, I meant in the morning. If it seemed that I meant at night, I apologize for making it seem that way. If Ruben feels we should do this as one whole group, which I dont like (no one guarding the base), then we should review the idea.

As for trusting the Americans...sure they can be seen to relfect their government alot, but this is no reason to not trust them now. If a conflict arrises, in which drastic force must be taken, then we shall do so, but this goes for all of us, not just the Americans.

I feel that the lab being set up should be secondary...and we should spend as much time as possible securing our position and off-loading the boat. Having a lab is great...but is pointless if we dont have enough supplies.

"I could gather up my equipment and the supplies at the same time while you guys set up the defences. I would like to repeat Ruben that I am an insomniac and cannot sleep for longer than six hours and I am ready to fight and work off four hours. Give me a night-shift so the others don't exhaust themselves. I would strongly recommend we try to keep control of the mission and that we defend it when others go out on excursions. This will allow more supplies and more ammo to be stored at base camp increasing our chances of success if we are staying for a longer period of time."

OOC: If you want to know the reason for his insomnia look at the above story.

"Don't get too attached to this base. We'll only be staying here for a couple of days, if that. We're not an army that occupies places. We're a strike team that moves through them. Ideally, if another unit comes by the mission while we're gone, they won't even know we're here. Obviously, we can't cover up all our tracks, and if you want to leave your heavier lab equipment here, Magus, that's fine by me, but if we split ourselves up, we're just dividing ourselves to be conquered. For all we know, there are hundreds of hostile militants in this area - if we get sieged here, or get ambushed on the road, I'd much rather have us all together. That's our best chance at survival - working as one team.

"As for the night shift, Magus, you can stay awake if you want, but just be sure to stay inside the chapel."

"If you put it that way... Then I understand why you wouldn't like to start a fire," Niki said. "I just hope that everyone in the guards will make sure to have their NVGs and the IRV ready to make sure that anyone might be around."

Niki goes out and scouts the surroundings of the zone, making sure to stay within the mission the whole time.

Miguel will join the jungle excursion!

I could really use it to harvest some good...herbal weeds.
If you follow me i can show some skills you all could need in this dence jungle.
Did you for example know you should never pie when you are in the water?
There are small fishes that swim into your penis and settle there to breed.

A silence followed the short monologe...

You know, Miguel is already in the jungle excursion, as that is my given name.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
