Deon, some models it would be nice to have:

1. You may have seen in the latest Dune Wars that there are a few rock arches scattered around the desert. We want to have more wind carved rock formations like this to give the map more character. The more variations we have the less obvious it will be that we are reusing them.

Some examples:

2. An Ordos Trike would be good to have as a UU.

(It doesn't have to look like this)

3. Mine Improvements that actually look like Mines would be good. We have three level of Mines, perhaps it's possible to use the vanilla mines as a base.

4. The Insect Farm Improvement is just beehives. Something a bit more futuristic and stylish would be nice.

5. A new Water Cache building would be good. The idea of the Water Cache is conserve water so have the water exposed to air so it can just evaporate seems wrong. I don't have any bright ideas what this should look like but somekind of basic device to store water in I guess. The Fremen store their water in underground chambers, but that doesn't really work as a building.

I'll come up with a longer list of 2D and 3D tasks for people to volunteer for at the weekend. If anyone has any suggestions for other things that need some art focus then post them.

Nice things! About Ordos: considering they have a green color and their symbol is a snake I thought it would be nice to have their vehicles to look a bit inswept and have some resemblance to a cobra.

You saw an Ordos suspensor unit I've posted before and didn't comment yet, what do you think?

I think it's a good mesh. I just think we should focus on creating better art for the existing units plus units that we've agreed to add first. Adding UUs is a question of game balance so it's better if we decide what the role of the unit in the game is going to be and then do the art. We want to avoid the situation we've had in the past with the mod, where loads of stuff gets added to the mod without thinking about the gameplay impact of adding it. There's a lot of the existing unit art that needs replacing or reskinning in my opinion so there's no shortage of cool stuff to do anyway.

Very nice! The banners look a little bit stretched, but apart from that it's good. Well done.
 
Ok implemented those

Attaching relevant zip file for uncompressed fpk, copy buttons dir to interface dir within packed art folder.

Also some screenies. :)

Summary: Homeground, terrain, CG, medic and few more next to do (last portion)

Done: most of combat promos, UNIT TYPES. (Spicy!), Original promo for homeworld - check screenshot with suspensor destroyer . As you see combat + suspensor + homeplanet reinforcement. (Edit: replaces s-shot)
Btw on last screenshot you can see that D-Pedia called Sevopedia O_o :P

You didn't get me. It's an art for an existing unit, like a suspensor transport.
Every nation should have a different unit art style as a result of the modders' work. Like in FFH where every nation has different looking warriors/archers/etc., or in Varietas Delectat mod for the Civ4.

I see what you mean now. Well, having cultural versions for all units would be fantastic, but that is a long term project. I've been thinking about improving the Suspensor units and Hornet units soon, I have a few ideas but some custom modelling will definitely help.

Also does anyone want to reskin the Thopters? Lord Tirian did a lovely skin for what is now the Falcon Thopter, but since I have made models using various sources for the other ones they don't look very consistent or Dunish.

Side note - any way for us to replace city ambience from vanilla? it sounds so vanilla :P

If we can find a suitable sound loop somewhere then it is easy to do. The problem is finding one.

Different art versions for the same unit for different factions will be fantastic, but a low priority.

Sounds like you two are very keen on art stuff, which is great.

As I've said before, I have no art skills at all, so am generally easily impressed by just about anything.
 
But you're good at other things, that's why a mod always needs a team. I will try to stay online till the end of the week. It's 4 AM here already, I am stopping to work on a sonic tank and going to bed now. I have to wake up at 8 AM :). Later.
 
I already looked through the Dune'O'pedia and I am not satisfied with the look of the buildings :). ...I can make them, but I am lacking the knowledge of the canon. Can you help me with some sources? Existing interenet dune wiki projects are quite deserted and empty.

Do you have access to the Dune 1984 movie, and the SciFi miniseries? I rented the DVD's through netflix; not sure that is applicable for you. I found it very helpful to play with the sound off, and/or fast-forward all the dialog scenes. There are a lot of visuals which can give inspiration for buildings. This will definitely help the mod.
