E3: Firaxis Announced 2nd Civ3 Expansion!

Many here complain about ptw, some even state that they don't play civ as much as they used to. But your still here, reading and writing so that makes me wonder, why your still in this forum? If the game got "worse".

I just resently bought ptw, because of the little improvements. although I'm European i haven't encounterd any real bugs, with patch 1.14. Though it would still be costumer friendly to release 1.21 here first.

I think, I will buy conquest though, if it is even a little better than PTW, or worse, I will buy. In the end I couldn't resist buying it, the same thing will happen with the second expansion

Hey, If you are a pessimist you will not have any fun daydreaming about it at work or school. If you are a HUGE optimist you will be disappointed. If you approach things in a cautious way......you will be glad you did!

Although I still think Atari and Firaxis would not make the same mistake with Conquests as they did with PTW.

That is how I see things.:)

I would like the MP mode better if I had a faster connection, but I can't afford it with having to buy new games. I love the SP Mode and I think that a new expansion with new civs will make it even more fun, especially for tournaments and gotm:)

How are they filling Africa? Neither the Sumerians nor the Hittites are African tribes...they're from Mesopotamia and Turkey (the near/middle east)...

Whoops! I was making a faulty assumption. Sorry  . But Mursilis was the Hittite leader, right? If so then they're a new Civ. Then we have:

- Sumeria
- Maya
- Inca
- (Uh, where are the Hittites from? Hittitia? Didn't know this either)

As for the other four, my guesses:
- Australia
- Canada
- MAYBE Brazil, to fill out S. America along with the Incans
- MAYBE Yugoslavia (though I doubt it) or, perhaps they'll take the excellent Polish civ from civ.org.pl, the Polish Civ III site :)

The Hittites came from what is now eastern Turkey. :grad:

Personally, I bought PTW for the new civs, units, etc. Any multiplayer abilities had no bearing on my decision to buy PTW.

Including Australia is quite a compliment but it's unlikely to happen. Although we good have the DIGGER and Australian light horseman brigade as UU's.

My guess for the remaining 4 would be .....
1) Nubia, for a mid eastern/african conquest circa mid bronze age egpytian conquest scenario. A conquest set in the time of Ramses the great would be pretty bloody cool.
2) Isreal......ummm Some one else mentioned it and it sounds right.
3) Austria, for a european scenario.
4) ??????????

i hope they will give us better editor (example:rise of nations).
im realy happy to hear civ3 is still live and kicking!!!
im going to sleep till fall...

JohnnyReb,

Please lets not bring politik in to this! I believe that 'leader-bashing' is still a bannable offense, and if I made a throw-away comment about GBW I'm sure you'd be a little annoyed. ;)

Now that is sad! you limit yourself from things you would love to do just because someone said something that dose in no way, shape, or form effect you? People have different opinions on what suits them best.

Anyway, I hope they change how the demographics work because some complained about that and I totally agree that they should be changed. :)

Anyway

Back on topic:

I hope they improve the editor ;)

I am very excited about this. But I have to agree with our brethren in counties outside of North America, they need to get the PTW patches out to them first.

Even though I have faith in C3:C, I am not sure weather Firaxis and Atari will be able to create a quality game in such a short time (definitely not short for us! More than three months!  ) Of course they probably started a few months back.

I just hope that it is more “flexible”.:)

I just want to make a quick apology regarding my previous post. I honestly wasn't trying to "troll" in any way, though I guess in retrospect there was really no other way to take my post :(.

While I personally felt my post was relevant, the moderators feel differently, and I respect and honor their wishes. For those that didn't read it before it was removed, don't worry...this is primarily for those who did happen to read it and were offended.

Sincerely,

JohnnyReb

Padma, I will second your "cautious optimism." I just picked up on something. Read the Civ3 site again. It reads, "Civ fans will discover intriguing new civilizations, units, wonders, technologies, and abilities to help them triumph IN eight professionally designed conquests throughout history." That sounds to me like that the new civs will be playable ONLY in the "conquests," i.e. existing civs have been modded. If this is true, I wonder how many of the added features apply solely to the conquest scenarios? If you'll look at the information we have so far, it makes sense. We know that the Hittites, Sumerians, Incas and Mayans have been "added." The former two would have to be offered to play a scenario for domination of early Mesopotamia; the latter two to play a scenario in the Americas. In Civ2, you could play as the Confederates in the Civil War scenario, but you couldn't play as them otherwise without modding.

I really hope I'm wrong about this. :(

Yes, you are right that it makes sense with the limited information we have now. I don’t think that is what it will be because after a few weeks or less the game will get boring and the producers know that. Those 8 new civilizations will be included in the 8 scenarios and probably will be playable in a normal non modified game. Lets just hope.
I think it would be pretty cheap if your case is true!

I'm not overly excited about this. I'm an avid Civ3 player but the whole PTW patching drama has seriously dented my confidence in Firaxis/Atari.

I for one won't be getting out of bed 8:00 am saturday morning to drive to a store to get this expansion like I did for PTW. This time I'll sleep in, read the bug reports for a couple of weeks, see if they acquired the common sense to use one cd protection system for UK and US versions. And if things turn out ok, then maybe I'll buy it.
