E3: Firaxis Announced 2nd Civ3 Expansion!

So, On natural Disasters, do you think there will be hurricanes or tornadoes and earthquakes? and will we be able to set them like we do the barbs?

that would be so cool

Either they will be random like diseases are now, or we will be able to control them. I'm guessing they'll be random. Maybe certain techs or improvements will prevent them.

This is the ones I think they'll have:

Floods - on flood plains prevented by city walls
Tornadoes - plains, no prevention
Earthquakes - plains, grasslands, hills, mountains, no prevention
Hurricanes - coastal plains, grasslands, no prevention
Volcanoes - Mountains, no prevention
Fires - Any city, prevented by police station (subs for fire station)

Well, I dunno if someone already hit on this, but...

4 of the new civs are the Sumerians, Mayans, Incans, and Hittites. How do I know, I read the JPEG names in the screenshots. the first leaderhead is the Sumerian leader, Gilgamesh, and the second is the Hittite leader Mursilis. Then there's a Sumerian Erikudu Warrior or whatever ( i forget the spelling), the Mayan javelin, and the Incan Scout.

I'm psyched. They're filling in where they needed civs: in the Americas and in Africa. Oh and if someone already figured this out, then I'd hate to steal your thunder.

How are they filling Africa? Neither the Sumerians nor the Hittites are African tribes...they're from Mesopotamia and Turkey (the near/middle east)...

When C3C hits the stores I'll look at the reviews, see what the folks here have to say (especially the bug reports), and decide then whether or not to buy it.

I did that with MOO3 and I still haven't bought it.

[fanboy] EEEEEEEEEEEE, gimmegimmegimmegimme! I'll do ANYTHING for that expansion!

Jeff Briggs: Including murder?

Oh, most definately. Just say the name.

Jeff Briggs: CivCube.

*long pause* [/fanboy]

All things considered, this does look like a good buy. Let's hope it's not like Civ 2 Fantastic Worlds.

*marks off Christmas list*

Civ 1 had some of the "hoped for" disasters, and most were prevented by something you could build. Temples prevented earthquakes, as I recall, and aqueducts handled both disease and fires. But there was just a message that x disater had destroyed y building (or some population), no real visual candy to document the loss of your baracks. Which was good against pirate raids.

Hmmm. I wonder if they changed the graphic for nuclear pollution and regular city pollution. If they did they probably changed nuclear radiation pollution to be able to kill units. That would be nice.
It always seemed weird to me how a unit can be killed by jungle disease (when it can possibly be prevented) and not nuclear radiation. :crazyeye:

I can see that the vast majority (95%) or more are single player Civers. Aren't there any multiplayers around? If there were you would be hearing many more complaints.

Lets see: 1 Civ3 is released w/o multiplayer and with what 3-5 patches? 2 PTW is released and a patch is released the same day. So with PTW we have, 1.0, 1.1, 1.14 and 1.21 all in less than 8 months. Had it alluded to that the next patch was going to testing 5 weeks ago. At the time of this post has anyone seen that patch? I certainly haven't.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE this game. The multiplayer experience makes it that much better. The challenge of a human opponent over the AI has increased the enjoyment 10 fold.

However I learned a long time ago, never chase bad money spent by spending more good money, all you do is spend more money.

So, Atari says, release (pay)/ throw a bone or two, release (pay again) throw a bone or two, (looky here they paid again) so let's, release and keep looping because they will pay and pay and pay.

BTW, this is the only product that people will buy and say "nothing is perfect". Did you say that when you bought your last car and it broke down 2 days after you took it home? I doubt that.

Firaxis, get it right then move forward. This was my email to Firaxis yesterday:

Hello Firaxis gang, I've just read the announcement made at E3 about the "Conquest" expansion pack. I have to be honest, normally I would be ecstatic upon hearing this. However, for some reason I feel that the large number of fixes for PTW that have been promised to us is now on the back burner and will be a part of the new expansion. I truly hope this is not the case, however, if it is, I will not be purchasing this product. I sat in on a CFC chat more than a month ago and it was stated that the next patch was going to testing the following week (4-5 wks ago) and we have not had 1 update as to what the progress is and if it even went to testing. I am an avid Civer both SPM and MPM but my patience is starting to run out. I play on line often (10-15 games wk) and spend more time trying to connect and reconnect than I do playing the game.

I honestly feel that if you do not have the MP part running to near perfection your slaes of the next expansion will be far below expectations.

Thank you for your time in advance.

Enough said!

only Kryten's MF thread filled up comapribly fast from what I remember, and even that wasn't THIS fast.

I wrote a E-mail to Firaxis asking them something about Conquests (nothing much, sorry) and he said he has to hold his tongue because his people were still gone (E3) and he said that the website (civ3.com) will be soon updated and I can get some info from there. He also said that civ 3.com will be updated more which means we could be getting more info for Conquests earlier!:)

Edit: That was yesterday.

I really hope this one doesn't suck, like PTW. If it does, well then Atari and Infogrames wont get much more $$$ out of my pocket:( :( :(

Who knows though, it might be great, and i can finaly enjoy playing Civ 3 again:) :) !!!

I LOVE PTW!! If this is as good or better than PTW this will be a GREAT expansion!

alright guys, i know you're pissed about multiplayer, but this WAS meant to be a single player game. and for all the other stuff, ITS NOT THAT EASY TO CODE! (im going to see the matrix tomarow, and the code is so cool!)

For those wondering about needing PTW:

"Civilization® III: Conquests requires the original Civilization® III product in order to play."

just 1 more "request" for civ 3 conquest...

CAN U MAKE THE NUKE WEAPONS MORE DISTRUCTIVE?

I mean... when i got my hands on the :nuke: ICBM :nuke: , i was so happy :D to use it on the Germans, BUT when i used it, it only killed like ... 10 people? and damaged the units guarding it!

NUKES R BETTER THAN THAT!!!

NUKES X_X KILLS, NOT DAMAGES!!!

===

and if the nukes r allowed more power, than maybe the GW UN can make treaties that will <Anti-Nuke Weapons> ???

So you are saying buying CIV 3 and or PTW was 'bad money spent'? that because you had to download a couple patches for a game you 'love' your really that bitter? i hate to escalate by replying to this but i would really not want to hear your opinions on a game you were only mildly amused with if it had some bugs.

oh and whos fooled here? i certainly wasnt. Maybe its because at my office where i work for one of the largest corporations in the world, bugs are in applications to the point where you wonder if a pencil and paper would be an advancement to the product.

Again, i'm stoked that in one of the best games in recent memory is spending the time to put out an expasion.
Yes the jury is still out on how it will be but personally i think their track record is fine.
