E3: Firaxis Announced 2nd Civ3 Expansion!

I'm truly amazed.

Here we are in a Civ3 only thread and there's simply endless whinning and moaning about how lame Civ3 products are.

If that's not strange enough, all this massive sobbing is the result of possibly spending a measily $30.

$30?????

My goodness people, when was the last time you had a date?

Thank u!! SOme people need to wake up  and stop whinning:cry:

I just hope there's greater control in the editor so that pretty amatuer scenario makers like me can have fun with the editor like I did in Civ 2. It would be cool if I could if you could control the boundaries of the territories. I hope one the new Civs is Israel, I think they absolutely deserves a spot being that some of the most important things in history happened there, as well as the current world's focus. I can't really guess at the other civs but I guess there would be more African countries since they aren't a whole lot in the game.

I think Israel is deserving, but won't be in

The problem with Africa is the game is done my culture group, not continent

The Middle East is kind of crowded

what does this expansion add, except map features, disasters and new diplomacy options, that you can't add by yourself or was already added in the DYP mod?pay 40 bucks,(Euro),for just 3 new additions and the rest is 'build as many military units as fast as possible',what i personally dislike?!certainly not.
perhaps we should stop buying every single almost useless extension they release.i hope i got a wrong impression on that:mad:

What about... PORTUGAL!! Portugal was one of the most influent countries in the history of mankind!! for a short period of time unfortunately but once upon a time we were the greatest empire in the world!! We are a small country with 10m citizens (today) but!! we survived against all Spanish invasions and French invasions with our territory intact!! In the XV century while Europe was starving and wars etc we discovered the whole African coast plus the sea route to India and colonized Brazil (yes Brazil is not Spanish it was a Portuguese colony and it's the greatest country of Latin America!!) we also gave gunpowder to the japs what help them to unify their country and we established trade routes to Japan and China and some islands of the region, we had Macao and Adem, Ormuz, Calcuta and other Indian cities, we had several colonies in Africa (in fact we were the only Europeans in Africa) and we spread to the entire globe with minimum resources!!! (Then we wasted the whole gold in parties and....hell to monarchy!!) You know the guy who first circumnavigated the planet?? Well is name was Fernão de Magalhães and he was Portuguese of course. Spain only colonized Latin America and they are one of the great civs.... yeah sure if we had their size imagine what we would have done! And I’m not saying: hey Portugal rulez!! the other are crap.... I'm just saying that if we look with an imparcial vision to the past we cannot deny the importance of Portugal in mankind’s history and i think we do deserve a place in this new expansion.

PORTUGAL RULEZ!!!

Welcome to CFC Arbusto, Portugal would be a good civ but on a world map either they or Spain would be destroyed in a few turns due to lack of space.

lol I was kidding about that one of PORTUGAL RULEZ! ;)

Portugal would be a good civ but on a world map either they or Spain would be destroyed in a few turns due to lack of space.

I didn't understand

are you talking about the customized world maps? well yes is true but as I usually play random :)

He's talking about a world map. Since they're starting locations are so close, they'd wipe eachother out rather quickly. Too make this not happen they would have to place the Portuguese starting location in Africa, Macao, or Brazil.

As it is now, many of the civs are a tight fit on a world map of Large (and even moreso on any smaller) size. Europe and the Middle East are very crowded. When I play a 24 Civ game on the world map, The Zulus and Aztecs usually do real well because they have a little room to grow in the beginning.

For everyone's info,

Our goal with C3C is to have around 400 testers thoroughly testing the project to ensure that all issues are located, documented, and tracked. This is significantly higher than any other testing plan in Firaxis's history. Due to the depth of Civ3, it is a necessary evil that sometimes things will slip through the cracks. It is our goal with C3C to make sure that NOTHING slips through the cracks and that the title does not require a patch.

It is my mission in life to make sure that everyone on this forum who gets Conquests will be surprised and ecstatic over what we accomplished and that the gameplay will be fun, challenging, and entertaining. I will accept nothing less than a title that has found greatness.

As for the PTW 1.21 patch - it should be available for non-US players this week. Sorry about the delay!!!!

Producer, C3C

Thanks for the info, Tavis.

As for making sure we'll be surprised and estatic, I am not alone in saying that we'll buy almost anything y'all put out with "Civ" on the cover. So estatic is probably covered in that. Personally, I have found that my interest was waning in Civ, and PTW sparked new interest. I have found enough with PTW to keep my interest going (with a few diversions, like ST:Elite Force) until the C3C comes out.

It's been said before, and I'll say it again, keep up the good work, and we are all biting our nails here waiting for C3C to come out! I don't know what I'm looking forward to more: C3C or The Matrix Revolutions. . . gonna be a close one! :D

It must be extremely difficult for you guys at Firaxis and Atari to produce a game with very little or no bugs that dose not require a patch. Even if it has a few unnoticed bugs we defiantly will love it as we have all the Civ series. Keep up the good work! :)

Jesse,

Just remember that beta testing fixes no bugs. At best it identifies them. There are still identified bugs in 1.26f.

Firaxis and Breakaway will need time and resources to fix the bugs, ensure that the game is still relatively balanced after the Mayan UU is put into the game, balance the scenarios, fix the bugs that are introduced fixing the previous bugs, adjust the scenario maps to give the teams fighting chances, adjust the UUs of the new teams when they are discovered to be too weak or too strong, go back and change the original units in Civ3 to make use of the new flags, go back and fix the bug in the new flags that was discovered when using it with an old unit, rebalance a scenario when it's discoved that the Hittite team just isn't fun to play in it, redo a scenario when you discover that it would be great in MP but has 10 teams and isn't balanced when it has only eight, realize that grassland terrain has a very noticable seam on the connection of tiles (but the watercolor terrain doesn't ;)), etc., etc. etc.

None of these things will be done by the beta testers. They will be done by the programmers, artists, and scenario designers at Firaxis and Breakaway.

Okay, Jesse, get back down the road to Breakaway and crack that whip. We want to be surprised and ecstatic over what you accomplished.

Promising words. :) I hope you can live up to them. Civ3 standard and PTW were both a bit disappointing when they first came out. Multiplayer is still a bit disappointing.

I hope the beta testers will leave out as few bugs as possible and above all I hope Firaxis will listen to their testers suggestions and ideas too! God, I wish I was one of them.
