E3: Firaxis Announced 2nd Civ3 Expansion!

Welcome to CFC Arbusto, Portugal would be a good civ but on a world map either they or Spain would be destroyed in a few turns due to lack of space.

But they're putting the maya and Aztec on the same map too so anything is possible

Firaxis_Travis,

Can you reveal to us how the diplomatic system will be different given that there are new fixed alliances? Any teases on possible new diplomatic agreements?

Well actually, you could argue that mesopotamia was united under Sargon of Akkad (or at least his grandson Naram-Sin) about 2300 BC, and again under Ur-Nammu (or his son Shulgi) aorund 2100. Sure Sargon II and the assyrians was important, just not the first to unite.Masopotamia....

I just can't realize that Portugal is missing in all Civilization games and in Colonization too....

It's a little weard that a country so important in discoveries time is forgoten so many times....

:goodjob:

Yup I also though on that... In fact the Portuguese invented the caravel.... But one extra move sux :P Here's my proposal:

Ok the UU is the caravel but is cheaper and works like a galleon in movement.

Boas Silver_Wolf [[]] Benvindo a este espaço ;)

For everyone's info,

As for the PTW 1.21 patch - it should be available for non-US players this week. Sorry about the delay!!!!

Jesse

Producer, C3C

Thanks Jesse!]

Another Q: WHY? WHY? WHY? Why are there different versions (with the same language)?

Are you responding to something with this quote?

As for some of the Portugal comments, I think anything is possible, but I think the Portugese have a problem of being less important then the Dutch, and gets confused for Spain. One of Portugal's greatest advantages was it was buffered by Spain, that might hurt their chances.

I think the Dutch are slightly better, they could be Com, Exp
Their UU could be a 2.5.1 Musketman replacement (maybe an Arquebuser?)

@Warpstorm, I think the Mayan UU will rock (no I'm not a Beta Tester)
Also, maybe they should make Watercolor the default (save them some trouble) ;)

The problem with Africa is the game is done my culture group, not continent

Actually ther are many "cultures"/Civilizations that could be included from the African Continent, Mali, Ghana, or Songhay in the West. Nubia, Aksum, Kush, in the northwest. All these civilization have had a significant impact on their region as well as the world in their time of prominence.

The Middle East is kind of crowded

Prescisely why there should be more civs on the African Continent.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include the Byzantines as a playable civ in the next expansion! And put the other 7 in the Americas and Africa. Not so much for world map purposes, but it seems stupid to slight certain regions of the globe who have as rich a cultural and military history as anywhere else simply because there are fewer people in those regions buying computer games. But then again, I'm not in the marketing department.

You don't understand my point. All civs have to belong to a pre-set culture group (Either American, European, Meditaranian, Middle-Eastern, or Asian)

Egypt and Carthage are Meditaranian, Zulu are Middle-Eastern. More of these African civs would be put in with the Zulu (Middle-East)

Also in the Middle-East would be

Persia, Ottomans, Arabs, Babylon, Sumeria, and Hatti (In addition to the Zulu and whatever you might add)

Isn't 8+ a little much?

Portuguese or Dutch, I don't care- I would like to see a civ from any country in between India and China, maybe the Thai, they would be a great addition.

I personally would like to see a few more civs from SE asia...

e.g.

Cambodians, who's capitol city had a population of well over 1 million people in around 1200AD (as seen in movies such as tomb raider etc).... Were basically an industrious (and quite ingenious civilisation) but had a very poor military which led to their demise.

Thai's (who conquered the cambodians) would be another great addition. A legacy of the thai empires wealth at the height of their power can be seen in the truly amazing temples scattered all around the reagon.

Sure but Maya can grow South and Aztecs can grow north whereas Portugal would have to start growing towards Spain.

I am partly Portuguese so what I am gonna say is not based on lack of knowledge or anything like that.

Portugal definitely should have been in Colonization (because they deserved it and it would have been a nice addition to the limited 4 European powers).

If you consider a real World Map, there is no reason for Portugal to be in Conquests though. They could be very useful for some scenarios but their Empire was restricted to a certain era and apart from that or, again, special scenarios, Portugal is a bit small and in a not so convenient place to be a real Civ.

Now if you play mostly random maps, or if you want to choose from a wide range of civs, then it does not matter how important it was and Portugal can be in.

But personally I would prefer civs that are more needed to cover the world such as in South East Asia, central Asia and Africa.

With a very smaler size Portugal achieved more than Spain... just think that we had a huge representantion in Africa and Still a big part of south america (Brazil). And I am forgetting the cities in India and East Timor...... small?? :D

If we had today "our sun countries" we would be one of the most important countries in the world...

so I don't agree with the "small" thing :D

The problem of real world map cenarios... well... if we play with Spain, France and Germany we have a diferent problem??

For the UU could be a navigation bonus as some of you said or a fishing bonus, as the portuguese were very good in fishing...
Other ideia is a diplomatic bonus as we made "friends" in every place we stopped.

:goodjob:

Andam muitos portugas por aqui? Infelizmente só recentemente conheci o site.... quero ver se entro nos GOTM poix estou a ver q tenho malta na net com o mesmo vicio q eu :D
já agora sabes onde posso arranjar um PTW barato? :king:

Oh yes, yes, YES !
Byzantines all the way !

This is a very often forgotten empire, that we rarely see in games, and still it's such an interesting and prestigious civilization...

BRING THE BYZANTINES IN !

(though, I admit, the area will be soon a bit crowded)

I hope there is at least one more cutlural group in the expansion, it's darn needed...

Byzantines? That was just the eastern Roman Empire. Although i must admit they had a different military system (according to stuff i read in history books) and lasted longer than the old Rome.
But if that were the case then Italy should be a civ by that reasoning. Now that i think about it...Mexico should maybe be included as a civ choice. Odd that it is not mentioned much considering the huge hispanic population in the states.
Course Santa Anna was about the worst General of all time.
Don't believe he ever won a battle. I bet Mexico will be the surprise Civ.

If c3c doesn't get the civ you want, you could create it in the editor..
Personaly I'm wondering about the tech tree and the new diplomacy
