European super-state: the sooner the better

I am getting really annoyed with all these people in the EU who now say - we r not working towards a European superstate' at every oppurtunity - why r people so opposed to it?
ITs a great idea, making Europe even more stable than it already is and bringing us together so that we can rival the evil power to the west (yes I mean the US)
WHAT IS SO WRONG WITH IT???

Lousy idea. The strength of Europe is in our great diversity. We do not need standards. We do not need centralized government. We do not need more bureaucracy and public spending.

I think working towards unification on a lot of aspects would be a good thing.I would surtenly agree if Europe would expand it's millitary. (which it is already doing)
More or less i would like it if Europe would be more than a mere diveded number of pupets of the U.S.A.No offence towards the americans though ,but Europe has to work at an independant foureign policy.and actually ,the proposals for the E.U army are being ratified under the chairmanship of Belgium.

But believe me ,an independant european army ,it's comming.

Morten - a European super state would reduce bureacuracy - there would only be one set of beuracrcy for everyone instead of there being lots of systems between countries so its impossible to get anything done.

I like Europe better than here anyway. I just dont like England as much and only speak English, otherwise I would already live over there.

I was under the impression that UK was not warm and fuzzy about the EU.

Well, of course I've got my reasons, but for heaven's sake, just because they're all on the same continent doesn't mean they have to become one country. Almost all European countries seem to run together now as it is.

So they say. I don't think that is what we are seeing. The more laws, the more power, the more need for administration and control, the more need for ressources, the more need for sucking their citizens dry and make sure they stay loyal and work as hard as they possibly can. Its been tried before. In stalinist Russia, par example.

I'm as left-wing as you can get and i am very very anti-EU, a European super state would simply be dominated by Germany as it has the largest population. You simply cannot merge a whole load of nations into one big one, it's bad enough as it is with the EU at the moment.

It's either the whole world or nothing i'm afraid, you can't just say 'oh well were economically stronger than you so you can go to hell and do what we order bla bla bla' which is simply what America does now, and believe me i don't want Europe becoming another America. As it stands in Britain i say pull out of the EU now and focus on fixing this country, to be frank it's in a mess and going no where. We need desperate social reforms in health, education and public transport so why should we go giving all our money to the EU's coffers so they can waste it on some useless project which achieve nothing?

Hmm.. Somehow, I don't think a united European superpower is a good idea... How would it work, where would the capital be, language, equal representation, etc.

I'm not for or against it. However, if you guys do form a country, make it a confederacy. Centralized government is not the answer. Look over here if you need an example.

I dont hate Europe at all. In fact, I love Europe, Graeme! Lets have a big cross-pond lovefest!!!
