A few words on the already metioned German mullet. It is called a vokuhila - vorn-kurz-hinten-lang (short in front, long in the back) and often comes along with an Oliba (Oberlippenbart - moelster mustache). Vokuhilaoliba is today only common among certain people in the Ruhr area and - surprisingly - alos still strong in its original domain: policemen! I can't being to tell you how idiotic most of them look, especially standing next to a skinhead-style bear of a cop. Usually, hte mullleteers are smaller and thinner, so the mullet makes them really totally ridiculous.

For more info, see: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vokuhila

Two of the main proponents of the German mullet have rescinded - Dieter Bohlen and Rudi Völler have both simple become too old.

Dieter Bohlen? 50% of Modern Talking.

Oberlippenbart - what a beautiful word!

*shudders* vokuhila.....

I've also heard the term "Jagr" for obvious reasons...

i had a mullet once too.

it was back when i had hair, and knew nothing about politics, and thought everything "southern" was cool.

for some reason, here all (well almost) female amphetamine addicts over a certain age, say 40, have the fem mullet. i wish i knew why.

Very funny. *deadpan stare*

I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but look at the interesting origin of the word from the OED:

Entry from OED Online
mullet, n.9 DRAFT ENTRY June 2001
slang (humorous and freq. derogatory).

[Origin uncertain. Perh. an extended use of MULLET-HEAD n. 2; but Grand Royal (1995) No. 2 proposes a number of other, largely humorous origins, including a relationship with MULLET n.1 and with the obsolete MULLET v.
Apparently coined, and certainly popularized, by U.S. hip-hop group the Beastie Boys (see quot. 1994), who also publish Grand Royal.]

A hairstyle, worn esp. by men, in which the hair is cut short at the front and sides, and left long at the back.

1994 Mullet Head (song)
