Executive action

I love that irony too.

J

I think Obama has been quite respectful towards Bush throughout his presidential term. I think that is a good thing, the political arena can use some more respect. I guess he knows he'll be a former president too, and hopes to get the same treatment.

Good luck with that. If a newly elected Republican president refuses to slander Obama the party leadership will brand him a RINO, claim he was elected under false pretenses, and impeach him.

I doubt the Republican leadership would want a fight with their own (hypothetical) President.

Who is offering this deal exactly?
This is the main sticking point.
You can't get right with the law until Congress does something.

What Obama is promising only lasts until the day he changes his mind or a Republican in '16 changes the Executive's mind.
And then there is a nice long ready-made list of people to deport.
As a practical matter, those that qualify and do fulfill all those things that Obama laid out are unlikely to get deported. Even ignoring that group, the Obama administration is achieving record numbers of deportations. You have just so many resources and they are more efficiently used against those not within the Obama group.

You assign far more rationality to the Republican leadership than I do.

This is the GOP, Where they allowed G.W.Bush not to even testify under oath or in public after 9-11 killed thousands of Americans, Gay prostitute was given press pass and access into the white house, Former horse judges are appointed into head of FEMA, Justification for invading entire countries, botched post war plan after botched post war plans killing thousands more.

That is after the same GOP that impeach Clinton for an extra marital affair.

Its funny, :goodjob:
But why would the immigration Bill sue and then shutdown the US government ?

Because the Republicans are pretending that for a Democrat president to veto a bill written by a Republican congress is unconstitutional, so groundless lawsuits and shutting down the government in a fit of pique should be expected.

From the outside, doesn't think mean that they'd actually need more money in order to do more enforcement? That, at some point, it's actually a resources problem?

Probably so, eventually. To start, they want border security to secure the border. You know, do their job. It's politically incorrect, but its what they want.

Say What? The BOA has accused the GBA of being the source of all evil.

Then what is their complaint? Deportations are up. What more do they want exactly?

Ah. So we are back at the magical fence that costs no money, since it is a conservative's desire.

Or as Romney planned (and I use the term loosely) a high tech fence.

I want the US military to not botch up Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Syria
IRS to catch tax cheats and actual crack down on charity social welfare groups
CIA to stop falsifying information which can be used as to invade entire countries
US Police to use reasonable force and avoid needless shootings
Corporations to pay taxes and not move HQ overseas to shafted the US people
Oil companies to stop polluting the water and exploding refineries
Medical companies to stop ripping people off and abusing medicare and overcharge the government.
etc etc etc.

Banks to stop destroying the entire world financial system
You know, not causing another great depression would be nice.

US new jet fighters to actually not crack and go on fire
US navy ships to be built on time, at cost and within specs

Congress to actually pass a budget
Politicians to stop lying

In 1986 Congress passed a statute that allowed those who entered the US before 1982 to stay here.
In 1987 Reagan issued an executive order to prevent the deportation of the children of those granted amnesty by the 1986 law.
In 1991 George H.W. Bush issued an executive order to prevent the deportation of the husbands and wives of those granted amnesty by the 1986 law.
In 1992 Congress passed a new statute which effectively codified both of those two executive orders into law.

A president can repeal any executive order ay any time, so if Congress had not passed the 1992 law Clinton could have chosen to have all those spouses and children deported.

I believe that in the 1990s Republicans still tended to be more pro-immigrant than Democrats, which makes more sense because free immigration is an essential part of any free market and because the unions which have typically supported Democrats have also traditionally wanted to limit immigration as part of their generally protectionist policies.

That's an impressive 6 year gap between the XO and legislation. Hopefully we don't see such a large one this time around.

If you think Cruz is an idiot, you are not paying attention.

I can't decide if :lmao: or :rotfl: is more appropriate.

Is it sucky? Yes. Does it actually go against what he'd said previously (*)? Yes. Will I be glad he's gone in two years? Yes. Does it warrant impeachment or government shutdown? Kinda thinking no.

(*) - Contradictory statement

Strictly speaking, he didn't stop deportations. He has just delayed them for 2-3 years for a particular group of immigrants in families with mixed citizenship status, and as others have pointed out it can be reversed by the next president.

Wrong and wrong. Do better fact checking.
Reading is fundamental.

Put the other smiley from above here.

The liberal media strikes again!

Pleased to be of service. Please do not take the comment as an endorsement of Cruz. That he isnt stupid is not enough to make him a good candidate.

I will also give you that you need to be a bit stupid to run for office.

Some of those are reasonable or have happened. Some assume as fact things that are not true. Some are just strange.

What was your point?

I think ambitious to a nearly psychotic level is more to the point. You don't have to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but no one gets elected president that is genuinely stupid. For all his faults even GWBush isn't outright stupid.

Circle the date. I agree with Tim.
