Fall of the Samurai

Great story trailer. This is going to take Total War in a new direction hopefully. To a more modern age, we have all been waiting for. Though I do want to see a revamp of the other great total war titles. The Roman times should be redone with naval battles added. The same goes for medieval, and empire and Napoleon should be updated to have ships run under fortress guns if a defensive harbor is attacked from the sea.

I agree, nokmirt. If, and it's a pretty big if, this is done right, I would quite gladly see a Victorian era Total War.

Can anyone confirm that it is possible to pre-order the Steam edition of FotS if owning a boxed copy of Shogun 2?

How do you mean? i think everyone can pre-order the steam edition, even if they dont have S2 (since its a standalone expansion). otherwise it would be a huge loss of potential buyers.

and even a boxed version of S2 is linked with a steam account

Oh yes, I forgot it was standalone. Thank you.

EDIT: Just ordered it off Amazon for £5 cheaper than the Steam price with guaranteed release day delivery.

Yes, I have a boxed copy as well, but it is a standalone expansion. So no worries mate.

so, who is playing it? im liking it so far

Great no problems so far for the most part. I did have an instance when a screen would not close, but once the end turn cycle went through it went away on its own. Since then the game has run beautifully.

I am playing as the Shogunate Nagaoka clan. So far so good, I have 8 provinces and just took out the Jozai, who had four provinces. In one battle they attacked my Fortress at Musashi. I barely won, it was one hell of a fight, but after that they were broken and my Daimyo came down with my second huge army. For the rest of the Autumn turns I took out the rest of the provinces.

During the winter I had some unrest to deal with. So I had two annihilation battles to fight, and destroyed two more armies. Now its just before spring and time to build up my provinces. The only military operation I may undertake is the capture of the island of Sado. Sado has been defending itself against one of my allies. I would love to get in there and initiate an attack while my ally is still around (Have him help me take the place. LOL!!!), while Sado grows weaker. Other than that I am going to remain on the defensive awhile, and build up more tech and get my provinces in order, before making a push for Kyoto. Awesome game!:)

just finished my first satsuma campaign on normal. first person cannons are awesome :p

unhappines because of modernisation is quite hard to deal with. But allies and vassals are a great help. i even had to make an ally province rebel and take it cause they were going to fast, i would have never got my 26 provinces.

a shame is that there are no pre battle speeches or agent clips. Havent been yet in a major sea battle either

Yeah, unhappiness is certainly a lot harder to deal with. Not sure if I like that... reminds me of the dreaded squalor penalty back in Rome.

But anyway... Gatling guns. My word. The Nagaoka clan have harassed me for about two years now. Then they met my gatling guns on the field. Hundreds fell in the hail of bullets. Now they don't harass me any more.

ever since that new 130 MB update, i experience much more crashes and freezes

I started playing again, to pass the time waiting for Gods and Kings to come out. The game is so fun. I have not experienced any crashes as of yet, with the new update. I did have one when I was watching a battle replay, after I had installed darthmod for shogun 2. This was before the update the last time I played. So, I hope they have fixed that issue. I like darthmod, because it looks more realistic and it gets rid of those annoying tracers. With quick firing rifles, and gatling guns, the battlefield looks like a star wars battle, lasers going everywhere.

I had a battle with the HMS Warrior vs the American ironclad, it was awesome. I was controlling the Warrior, and ended up getting sunk after I continued the battle, trying to finish off the battered American ship. They went full steam to try to escape and hit me with a few armor piercing rounds which penetrated my bow below the waterline. It was cool watching HMS Warrior sink.

This looks good. Really good. However, I still can't forgive them for carefully skirting around the Imjin War. Hwachas, Li Rusong, Yi Sunsin, Japanese invasion... that's more interesting and diverse than just identical Japanese fighting each other.

I mean, you ever get the feeling after uniting the map in any TW game that you just want to take your armies and march them into China or some other foreign and equally mighty empire, just to see who would win? They could have done that. They totally could have done that and it would have been incredible. And instead of giving us identical 16th century Japanese armies fighting each other, they gave us... identical 12th century Japanese armies fighting each other. For shame.

The current political situation with Korea. Apparently making a game about the Imjin War would cause too much tension and not worth the possible backlash.

I don't necessarily find it a good reason, but it's the only reason we have.
