Fall of the Samurai

Yes, all sides can recruit all modern weapons. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Shogun starts off with a more modern navy than the Imperials do.

The archaic troops will probably just be a cheap units that can be used as a fallback or something.

Right on this is the reply I have been waiting for! :)

Alarm bells are ringing however. They are creeping closer and closer to a modern day Total War, or at least a World War: Total War.

Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking!

It could be like a test run or gradual preparation for World War I Total War! :p

I'd love that. We don't get many WWI games. Maybe that's because WWI is boring or something, but surely it's not too boring to make a good game. I got kinda interested more in WWI when I read Achtung Panzer (which is about half or more about battles in WWI) despite it somewhat confirming my suspicions that WWI consisted largely of hordes of soldiers charging toward machine guns and getting ripped to pieces over and over. Until tanks, that is! :mischief:

And that's what I'd really love in a WWI Total War. IRL the Germans didn't do much with tanks but in a game where you have a tech tree, you could play as the Germans as focus on tank research earlier and have a more interesting war.

Actually, US Civil War could be great as well. Would remind me of North & South on the Amiga.

I'm sceptical. Medieval 2 and Empire showed me that guns are far less fun than swords and spears.

Perhaps... but it could have been the execution of those games. I haven't played M2TW yet (have it on Steam since the pack of every non-Shogun TW was going really cheap) but ETW felt a lot less polished to me than RTW in general. Even if it had been about swords I don't think it would've been quite as good. RTW was genius.

Just use the Great war mod if you want a WW1 TW game.

I would love if they went back in time to old fashioned sword and arrow combat.

I honestly hope that this is the last gunpowder TW. Empire was average, Napoleon was excellent. Shogun was good. But i wanna go back to roman steel. most TW-fans want a rome 2

Guns were far more interesting than swords. The samurai thing is ok, but I'd like to see more gunpowder. Perhaps the Civil War, or even better, Imperial Total War ending around the end of the Boer War or the end of the Russo-Japanese War. Before aircraft are noticed in a large scale. I think they won't go all the way to WWI on the current graphics engine. But if they do, or make changes, wonderful! Empire Total War Darthmod Ultimate Commander 7. Play it then judge empire total war.

If they love gunpowder so much, why don't they do a "Pike & Shot: Total War"? It would work so much better. Who doesn't want to sent Pikemen into battle, see them cut down by massed musket fire, but save the day with a devestating cavalry charge? You would have the perfect rock/paper/scissors combat system and plenty of fun opportunities for DLC units. (Winged Hussars, Oprichniki, foreign regiments, and so on.)

Darn, I think I gave myself a nerdgasm just thinking about it.

The day the American Civil War is represented in Total War is the day I lose faith in humanity.

Not me I am American that is our history! I cannot turn my back on it! And actually it already has, there is a mod. So get about losing faith in humanity. We will miss you my friend!

Yes, that would be great a real Renaisscance period with real sea battles. I am all for it. Bring Tercios back to life and the great war between the Ottoman Empire and the Spanish Empire for control of the Med from 1522-1571 with the culmination of events at the battle of Lepanto. Then on to the Spanish Armada of 1588.

Start with the founding of gunpowder cannon and go to 1700. Great idea! Then they can go back and redo Rome and Medieval so we can have real trireme and galley sea battles. Viking longships and all of that as well, including the golden age of piracy.

It could start with the Hundred Years War and go to 1700. Or they could start in 1453-1700 and go through the siege of Constantinople. I had a nerdgasm too.

Sorry about the double post. Ooops.

I would love an American Civil War Total War, but I really don't see it happening, given the lack of 'factions'.

I'm hoping for something original before the inevitable Rome 2 - the pike and shot era mentioned above would make a nice bridge between Medieval 2 and Empire.

It's probably more viable as an expansion to a larger 19th century Total War. You could also expand it to include the French intervention in Mexico, to give it a bit more lifespan.

I would love a Renaissance era Total War. But the ACW... no.

Salty mud why no Civil War? I do not understand. If they did the thing on a large scale with the whole world, it was an interesting technological time period.

I actually expected it as a possible expansion to Empire, but am happy to pine for the possibility of it being its own game now. I don't quite see a 19th Century Total War quite working as a grand campaign, though.

Before WWI would work, before aircraft.

Wow this isn't DLC, but Stand alone at near full price ($30.00). I guess I won't get it for a while.

they have announced the different versions you can get, and every version has different exclusive content. really bad marketing

That is strange marketing:

LOL get an "Obama" clan if you order direct from SEGA. Likely all the content will be DLC through Steam eventually, so ordering from Steam is the most likely option unless you buy it in person at a store.
