"Fall Patch" announced

Totally agree that not having an ETA is very annoying. I'm also not on a mood to start a new game before the patch comes in.

But I also think they are waiting on XCOM: EU to release, so, probably next week.

Since the release of G&K, there have been dozens of topics here and on the 2K forums asking after a new patch. Tons of crying about a lack of communication. So, 2K goes and releases the notes for an upcoming patch and gives a release deadline (before 24 October), and now all the crying is that people have to wait for the patch.

Really?

Just for your information, the people complaining about lack of communication wasn`t I.

We are all different individuals on the internet, yes really.

Do you know the [probable] reason why they aren't giving a specific date? Because the last time they did, issues came up at the last second and they had to delay and caught hell for it. You would have thought they murdered babies. The Internet-rage was palpable.

I'd imagine their testing schedule on this one is longer than usual, as the DLL release is HUGE and the patch is quite large compared to previous patches.

Dear Firaxis: Please just get this right. We can wait a few weeks. Yes, we'll grumble, but if the patch is good, that will vanish overnight. If the patch isn't good enough, it'll get even worse.

Amazing list of updates! I love all the AI improvements and QoL patches.

I am curious though about the mention of Tall/Wide balance... the fix is a national temple wonder? Strange, as i feel like tall is so powerful now i rarely find any use in going wide.

Also surprised there's no rebalancing between Liberty/Tradition. I feel Trad is so op now, but does firaxis feel they're evenly balanced?

Sorry, giving the community patch notes in late September doesn't make up for the total lack of communication from Firaxis since G&K launched in June. Aside from a few bug report inquiries from Dennis Shirk here and there and a handful of comments made by Greg and Dennis right after G&K launched, there's been no communication whatsoever, so I don't blame people for complaining about the lack of communication regarding the upcoming patch. It's annoying that the community has sort of been neglected recently (such as the fansite Q&A for G&K never answered, or the podcasts that were supposed to be done but weren't, etc.) and it's frustrating to wait more than three months for a patch to fix some of the glaring issues the game has.

I'm not making excuses for Firaxis. I'm point out that when they don't provide information, there's an element of the community that complains about it. When they do provide information, there's an element of the community saying that they shouldn't provide information until the patch is ready. No matter what, they can't win.

I'd say it's better if they spend their time on fixing the bugs than on posting in the forums ;).

It's a damned if they do; damned if they don't situation. In the Navy, we had a saying: "a complainin' sailor is a happy sailor." Consider your members happy as hell.

I find it hard to fathom why the scrolling screen bug has not been fixed in two years on a landmark product like this.

Weird.

I agree, but at the same time, it's not it takes all that long to just make post or two acknowledging some of the major issues, nor is every Firaxis/2K employee working on the game itself (like 2K Greg). People would probably be a little less antsy if it didn't take this long for any sort of details whatsoever regarding the patch.

That's why you have community managers. To bridge the gap between the players and the developers.

People will find a reason to b#tch no matter what. If an ETA is given, then people whine that the date is too far off and cry that sky is falling if it is released late. If an ETA is not given, then people sob that the devs don't care about them. Boo hoo!

Ironically. the devs keep on working at the game; keep providing content and fixes, keep the community timely and reasonably informed. Few, if any franchises, do better to keep their fans happy and engaged. I've been playing this franchise since '91. I'm rarely disappointed--and if I am, then usually not for long. Anyways, I speculate we'll get an ETA when it gets closer to release.

Play the game, give constructive feedback to help the devs improve the game, and be happy when improvements are released. You know a patch is coming fairly soon. That's good! Now quit crying.

However annoying it may be to not have an ETA, it's much more annoying to hear the same old complaints over and over ad nauseam.

Sir, calm down. It sounds like you've had a bad day. We are all friends here. :) The devs like to keep things quiet. Whoever does not realize this yet, should just accept it. People are curious especially gamers. So, sometimes whining passes the time. Anyway, I could give a hoot in hell for a patch. I want a DLC.

Sure, expect it would be easier to get ahold of the President.

I don't think the idea with that fix is to fix all of the imbalances between Tall and Wide empires. It's just to make it easier for Tall empires to generate faith - at the moment they produce a lot fewer points than Wide empires since most faith comes from shrines and temples and there isn't a reduction mechanic like culture has for the number of cities you've got. It means empires like Ethiopia that are supposed to be Tall and religious don't work very well because a wide empire has a far higher potential for generating faith.

A suggestion, to fill the gap between now and the fall patch just play XCOM

That suggestion involves paying £30 for a game which, if its anything like Civ V, will be full of bugs at launch.

Apparently... it isn't. Do give it a shot.

It seems to have a few yes but what game does not in the vanilla ?

Then XCOM is not so complex like CIV so the bugs are less fastidious.

Give the demo a try, then take a decision. You can buy the game for £20-22 using vouchers.

BTW also after the fall patch G&K will have some bugs of course

Always best to wait at least 3 months ( I waited 2 years for Civ5) for all the bugs to be ironed out and any extra DLCs to be part of the whole package. these days, with Steam, you can`t take back the game or even give it away if you don`t like it.
