"Fall Patch" announced

Some of you ranters should realize that a few of our friends here, like MadDjinn, are testing the patch. I trust him and others on the team and with the few resources Firaxis can give to a free upgrade, it would take time to evaluate and prioritize the responses from the test team.

How long have they been testing it? Does Maddjinn know anything about the release schedule?

It works like this (I'm in software development). There are a lot of changes in this patch, so a lot of things have to be tested, esp. when a single change causes a cascading effect on all other things (potentially). If they tell me how long a project will take, I say that if it's just me, X months plus X weeks testing (only have to manage 1-2 testers). If I get help, I can cut that time down. This game is far more complex than what I do and they would have (based on previous releases), 30-40 testers but at this rate, probably only a few developers, a release manager and few artists (speculatively).

Now whether they should announce when they did? I don't know. If it were me, I would announce about a week prior to release when testing has wrapped up. But the rantings here would be even worse, "is Civ5 dead??!!??LOL???".

With all of these changes, have patience and trust the process, esp. given their limited resources. You are getting something for nothing.

An awesome patch is coming out 2 years after the game is released and all you kids can do is complain. When you grow up and get a job (one with real responsibilities) I hope your boss holds you to the same standards.

really... no need for this

No need for all the complaining either

This is my beef really.

Did the community change? Civ fans were always critical of patches/patching schedule but a consensus usually develops with each patch/XP and we can post in threads without constantly being blighted by cheiftains who run their mouth about everything. I've been posting in communities like this one since 2001 when Civ3 came out, and this is the first time I've seen frivolous complaining on such a large level even after such an awesome expansion. Granted the people actually complaining is down considerably and the rants thread has been reduced to people talking about things they dislike about modern gaming (generally). Maybe I just wasn't paying attention back then.

Perhaps the broken launch gave people a free pass to express their 'opinion' long after their expiration date.

I already said what I have to say about patching. Also agree with Buccaneer completely.

Because they have done this on Every. Single. Patch. they have developed, tested and released.

Still got 7 more weeks till the end of Fall.

I realize. No big deal. Let them take their time. I have plenty to keep me busy atm.

I don't know what you guys are even talking about here, I have not seen any complaining in this thread.
Well, except for those complaining about complaining.

I do, I have.

All I would "expect" is (a more regular) communication from Firaxis or whoever (Take 2?) is on the other side...

Then take a good guess at such communication (based on previous updates)...

"We are working closely with the test team to iron out a few balancing issues based on the changes to the game. We want to make sure this update is solid for our devoted fans. Right now, we do not have an exact release date but it's still planned for the Fall. Plus, there will be a surprise or two as we get closer to release. Thank you for your patience and support."

:)

How is it that the day the seasons end is such a bombshell for everyone (once the initial Fall/Autumn confusion was cleared up)?

Ok, so we're closer.

What's the surprise? Or two?

`based on previous updates` is the key point here.

That doesn`t mean it counts for THIS coming update. That`s just creating false expectations.

Interesting, but I feel a DLC coming on.

A DLC would be nice. Maybe the American Civil War they left out of the expansion and a native american civ? That would be amazing, and a nice X-mas gift :) :) :)

Wait I'm confused. Where did you read this or are you just inferring this is what they would say if they provided proper communication?

This place is nowhere near where Bioware Forums are. The level of entitlement and whining on that forum is really incredible.

Give it a rest. Isn't there anything else important to talk about than who complains or doesn't? :deadhorse: If there isn't this is a very sad thread and it should be closed. And here I thought everything was relevant.
