Fallout 3

I've only done a couple of quests in the MQ myself, but i hear its fairly short.

You can skip....A TON, it turns out I did, as Ive read, I waited till I was level twenty and had done a bunch of stuff before I even started it, but becuase of all the crap I had done and found, I "started" the main quest rite towards the end pretty much.

Regarding this...

Spoiler :
A significant part of the main quest are quests to help you find your father... If you happen to find him by yourself, then I guess it's to your credit, hehe. But yeah, it means some of the early parts of the main quest are now useless or maybe you can't even do it. The thing is that not doing certain quests is not that important since most people easily get to level 20 anyway. And it'll just encourage you to try again with a different character and do things differently.

I hear scaling is there, and it's as annoying as ever.

Also, i hear STALKER is much better than this. Since people have been comparing this to oblivion to death - how is it compared to stalker ?

This is first an RPG then a FPS. Combat is based more on stats than reflexes. That being said, it certainly doesn't feel that way when your in VATS mode blowing the head off a ghoul or something. IMHO, this is worthy of the 9.7 it got on IGN; its simply huge, incredibly immersive, awesome, and very expansive. You really can do most everything the way you want, at the speed you want, in the fashion you want. This>>>STALKER

Spoiler :
I need to find the Fission Battery- where the hell is it?

Spoiler :
It's on a dead protectron. Can't remember the exact location but it's a small, closet-like room

Spoiler :
1 floor below the roof, IIRC its in a sideroom of that big room/cafeteria where you fought a bunch of super mutants and brutes, like on the second floor in that room 1 floor below the roof, there is a closet with a dead robot. I know I'm confusing sorry :p.

It's not the same scaling at all. I think it works like this. They programmed some zones for ranges of levels. Let's say a zone is for level 5 to 10, if you go there before 5 you will get owned, if you go there at 8 you will face level 8 enemies, if you go there at level 12 you should own.

I felt SOME scaling, but to me, the raiders with small guns remained raiders with small guns throughout the whole game. At the end you will meet a higher quantity of tougher enemies like giant rad scorpions and sentry bots, but there will always be crappy ones to blast for your pleasure.

I found the scaling to be far more acceptable and far less noticeable than it was in Oblivion. I pretty much stopped playing Oblivion and never really reached the end of the game (even though I started many many games and played the game hundreds of hours!) because of that annoying scaling. One day you cross a road and you beat up a few guys, the next day you leveled a bit and somehow in the same spot there are minotaurs. No, just no.

This is an excellent description of the kind of levelling you will find in Fallout 3. You will find very hard enemies at the start of Fallout 3 and you'll still see radroaches towards the end. It used to annoy me in Oblivion how one day I'm riding between cities having a few small fights with wolves and a few days later I'm trying to avoid minotaurs at every turn.

I think they've got it pretty much spot on with this game. I don't want the absolutes offered by Oblivion (enemies level relative to you) or the opposite (enemies stay as strong as you become harder) as the game would become too easy as you progress.

:goodjob:

Thy still scaled the super mutants though......I was killing them at level four....that just doesn't seem rite man.

@andvruss and GVBN: Thanks! I can't believe that I missed it so many times.

Spoiler :
The alien spaceship is in the game......was pretty trippy to find, and theres an alien blaster on him which does really high damage AND always gets criticals, there an "improved" version of the blaster I found on a random road called the "firelance" that does more damage, some DPS effect and has a bunch of ammo lying around it.

There also seems to be "Improved" versions of all weapons and armour in the game in hidden places.

Yeah, but they seem to have different names. Like, the "Super Mutant" is an easy mutant that you can kill early one. Then the "Super Mutant Brute" looks a bit different, has more armor, and is tougher. Etc. Still, Super Mutants aren't the hardest things to beat in the game.

Each weapon has at least one "unique" version of it somewhere in the game, It looks pretty much the same but it does more damage or shoots faster.

Ya I know, at level four I was killing brutes and masters as well, thats what I was taking about, they shouldnt have scaled them at all. It doesnt seem like the deathclaws or sentry bots were scaled at all which I was quite happy to get my ass kicked by them.

Deathclaws are hell...kill you in a few strokes, best way I found to deal with them is bottlecap mines, lay two and let them see you. I dont use Big Guns so that may work as well.

Instead of scling or not scaling the creatures they should of scaled their weapons. I would think twice about any supermutant if he had gatling laser or a plasma rifle or was tossig nuke gernades at me. I wish 50s and 30cal machine guns were in the game. They only seem to have mini guns, assualt rifles and hunting rifles

Heck, I still use the hunting rifle at lvl 17 cause I have tons of ammo and plenty of spares to keep my gun in good condition. I only worry about some bots and deathclaws, and if I occasionlly get into a big fight with several targets(7 or more)

The missile launcher and obviously the fat man work good, by level twenty I could take them out with a full AP consuming burst from the plasma rifle....which I got right back becuase of the sprint....

I thought this did happen? To begin with I saw a lot of hunting rifles, but at level 18 the super mutants were carrying chinese assault rifles.
