I have been fooling around with these two map variants. Now I know from a succession game that the fantasy realm has different triggers so you get 1 resource that is abundant in the game and there should be 1 resource completely missing. Is this true because in my current game there is no corn and no wheat. Also no marble on the whole map. There are only 2 spots of iron and 2 spots of horses. Of course I had neither but I stole both resources from Tokugawa in my last attack  Can anyone enlighten me on how these maps work?

Same with oasis but that can just be bad luck because 3 games in a row I didn't get any strategic resources at all. Horses where always in the upper left corner and metals were almost absent. Thank god for elephants to give you at least 1 attacking unit but if you don't beeline for them they come way too late to get very agressive.

Try enabling cheatcode = chipotle in your .ini file, and in game use Ctrl-Z to see the whole map. Then you can keep regenerating and look at as many examples as you want.

I've had difficulties on oasis with resources too. There is some copper in the south and east. Iron pops up across the desert in some places. I've struggled to find ivory on the map though, and it seems to crop up in the few tiles of jungle on the map (I always get a spot in the southern part of the map so I don't know much about the north).

Yeah for some reason I also always start in the lower part of the map where there are hardly any strategic resources. I guess that is a feature of the map. But the lack of horses, copper and iron made me fall back in the attacking department a lot. Didn't beeline for elephants which I found a bit late so even at 1000 AD I didn't have a big strike force :(
