Update 3
3950- 3925 B.C.E.
25- 50 A.F. (Anni Frateritatis/Years of Brotherhood)
Roots of Empires
The cradle has advanced 50 years since we first started looking at it and things have already changed rapidly. Along the Great Sea nations begin to explore and set up colonies or in the vast frontiers in the west and north nations begin to finally beat back barbarian migrations. Unique cultures are rising such as the militaristic state run Illion Kingdom or the strange peoples of the Alpine Tundra where people build tombs for the dead and some ride sleds pulled by dogs. At every corner of the cradle conflict is on the rise and those who survive will begin the construction of the world’s first empires…
We begin with the nation of
Hylon which despite the odds continues to beat back the barbarians which almost toppled their kingdom. In two decisive battles with support of
Hylon’s allies not only was the army severly weakened but the warlord killed. In the next few weeks the armies of Tural disintegrated entirely as
Hylon advanced. Many tribes join
Hylon but the former united armies of Tural. Several river galleys are sent out to make contact and more formal trade is conducted with
Illion.
(+1 Hylon trade economy, +Barbarian troops as part of army, -1000 infantry, -500 cavalry)
Triple Kingdom of Tephan is our next stop as we move across the cradle where they continue to concentrate on defeating the barbarians to the east and do some expansion along the river to their southeast. The army to the east pushes deep into the enemy barbarians when suddenly word comes from home that they have been cut off as a tribe moves in to the weakened border defenses in the north. The army turns back to stop them from marching towards the core of
Tephan and in a series of amazing battles manage to keep the enemies from moving. They are still cut off and increasingly running out of supplies and manpower. The expansion in the south is much better because the people living here are offered a better life and a chance in the military. Investments in building trading posts and such down the river are successful but barbarian pirates continue to negate any trading bonuses. However Teet does become a trade center for a huge source of gold and silver minerals were discovered in the nearby mountains and Teet becomes a center for the changing of the metals into jewelry.
(+100 Infantry, -800 Infantry, -400 Trinity Cavalry, +Teet trade center)
Terra Trifluentia just south of
Tephan is once again on the move expanding further into the uncivilized peaks that surround much of their southern borders. They establish the city of Industria at the base of the mountains to take advantage of the mining of tin and copper but many other rich metals are also discovered. One of the most important to these people is gold as in
Tephan there seems to be an abundance of gold within these mountains if you look hard enough. Mining immediately begins to extract these metals and the city of Industria soon becomes a center of trade. Minor skirmishes occur with Forgon but because of the fortifications made on the border Forgon makes no advances in fear of literally dieing.
(+Industria as a economy center, -500 infantry, +1 culture (For Orders)
Hey for once we will not end with the strange peoples of the Alpine Mountains

. The
Sky Gods discover and fall upon an important discovery finding another rich kingdom developing on the outside of the cradle. The kingdom apparently fat off trade from the mineral rich alpine peaks was able to survive fierce barbarian raids till it began a rapid decline. For the Sky Gods had cut off their source of income unknowingly and began a huge chain of events that led to the kingdoms very capital being sieged.
Kingdom of the Sky Gods after by mistake discovering rich fertile river valleys to south begins a raid expansion climbing over huge mountain peaks and enduring blizzards finally reach the end of the mountain chain after 10 years of marching. They ascend on the flat lands like a storm destroying and pillaging many little trading post dotting the banks of the river. They also discover these trading posts not only hold copper and tin but gold a ton of gold. Apparently the Empire of the Maldukes had gotten rich off these trading posts and now was collapsing as the
Sky Gods literally cut off their main source of income. The Empire sent a large force north to defeat the Sky Gods leaving their southern borders very vulnerable to save their mineral trade posts. The
Sky Gods used gurriella like tactics harassing the enemy as they advance northwards. When the Death Lords were about to stike the enemy retreated back into their home country as for their capital was under siege by a barbarian army. Not one but man barbarian tribes had flowed over the borders tearing apart the kingdom by its seams. The kingdom manages to hold out but just barely. Maybe life outside the protection of the cradle is just too cruel for civilizations to survive very long?
(-1000 Death Lords, +3 bonus economy points)
Canidae goes on their routine expansion to the northeast making much progress until they reach the edge of the great mountains they have lived upon for years. Their sled dogs become useless as they look upon fields and fields of grass with hundreds of grazing beasts (horses) for miles. They have seen grass before but only in small mountain meadows but now they look upon what appears to be a vast meadow.
Canidae’s soldiers stop expanding fearing what this land may behold but these people may be venturing into a new era with new animals to tame beside their furry little friends.
(-500 Wolf Hunters)
Along the main river of the cradle we look at
Maasla Keeista a nation free from barbarian raids and wars begins to set out to become something great. The nation expands down the river with little or to no problems at all as they encounter people who have not seen war in a day of their life. The region is just populated by small fishing villages and the occasional Kaldur trading posts. Most of the areas are intergrated without trouble and contact with Kaldur is made. Also, people are encourages to support the state developing new farming techniques. No new revolutionary ones have been made yet but efficiency is slowing getting better.
(+contact with Kaldur, +1 trade economy, +1000 people)
We move further down the river where come across the nation of
T’lur Pa which has had astonishing luck this turn as its trade continues to thrive and production all over the kingdom is on the rise.
T’lur Pa spends massive amounts of its treasury improving the production of its kingdom.
T’lur Pa not only builds the usual granaries and irrigates the land but encourages people to try new crops. Many new crops are discovered which grow far better in the marsh soil then most of the crops previously farmed. These crops similar to rice provide the people a new diet and many dishes are created. In the cities the government funds accounting and record keeping helping keep track of the transfer of goods within the cities. Many people are also encouraged to specialize in one trade and to learn from trading partners new techniques to do things. Something else also happens in the nearby strong tribe a huge revolt spreads through the lands. Many of the people spurred by rumours of a better life either join
T’lur Pa or declare their own tribe supporting trade with
T’lur Pa. The huge tribe quickly breaks apart as new tribes compete for power.
(+1 confidence, +1 education, +1 urban economy, +1 rural economy)
The
Karankoff states continues to expand but comes upon a major challenge to its ver existence as they have finally angred a group of people to the south for marching on the holy grounds of their forest guard desecrating the trees and soil. The people in a fit of rage attack the Karankoff states.
(-1000 Karankoff infantry,-500 Karankoff cavalry)
We end our journey of the cradle with the continued slaughter of a people looking for a better life. It seems they were not meant to live here and no god wishes to see them survive another day but some did manage to live on….
Illion have become the masters of warfare in this world as they oversee the enslavement and slaughter of what remained of Teraden which was not much. The enemy was exhausted from marching for weeks in hostile land suddenly came under attack by
Illion where they stood no chance. The battle was only a half hour long where the defenders made a courageous stand to defend their families but were quickly chopped down with King Leon himself who despite his age fought to the bitter end. About a hundred survivors manage to escape and were welcomed by the city state of Tampla for refuge. They are what remain of their people besides their relatives now slaves within
Illion which really have no future. Sparti is founded on the tip of the northern half of the peninsula
Terenan mostly occupies. The country also issues the Lycurgan Reforms which literally put all precious metals in the hands of the state. The people are issued rocks with symbols on them almost impossible to copy as a sign of currency within the nation. The reforms ambitious basically mean all property is now owned by the state and the only real currency is honor.
(+1 culture (for orders), +1000 people, -500 infantry, -250 cavalry)
The nation of
Tereno begins expanding northwards to the agreed upon borders with Illion after escorting the Teraden out of their lands. They encourage innovations amongst the people and promote Pantheism as usual within their lands continuing to erase other religions from their lands. Colonies are established on the island of Giamenna to the west and the Salitore peninsula. On the peninsula a people calling themselves Kalnos organize themselves into a city-state. Another state related to them called Valnos is set up further west adding to the trade of Terenan but all the landed added to the nation negates any trade income as it is spent maintaining unproductive lands (till invested in) to the north.
(-500 infantry, -100 cavalry)
Corenwal continues to work on its giant bronze statue holding a statue now called the Aporatanus which will be the center of the religion Bhatoism. The cities of
Corenwal continues to expand and conquer the islands to their west when by mistake a ship discovers another shoreline…
(-4 galleys, -500 infantry, -100 cavalry, +1 trade economy)
OCC: I am sorry about the poor quaility of the update once again. Some parts got more attention then others despite you writing really long orders. I will try better next time.
Carmen150, please label your orders with your nation name or they will be ignored.
Best Orders: Illion wrote a very detailed account of their nation which I hope they post in the form of a story.
Worst Orders: Carmen150 for ignoring everything I asked him to last turn.
NPC Diplo will come soon because I have to do some things.
