Preparing for the Persians...
I have been unusually addicted to classical music lately (Beethoven, Mozart, Tchiakovsky, etc.) A very strange occurence. I decided to have a thread on it. My favorite classical music (I mean classical, not classic rock.:p) is the 1812 Overture.:)

1812 Overture is pretty cool, but it's got some pretty boring parts - or at least, it seems that way when you're playing the viola part in a middle school orchestra like I did a few years ago.

[edit]Oh yeah, and my favorite classical piece... is probably Mars by Gustav Holst. The Planets series is so awesome.[/edit]

Pachabel's Canon, still can't get enough of it after at least 5 years :)

I agree with Ramius - Bolero all the way, my favorite classical piece for quite a few years now

Cool :), but my favorite composer is Tchaikovsky :) coz he compose most of my fav, love Swan lake, Nutcracker and Piano Concerto No1.

Ramius

As a fanatical Civ player, I would say: Haydn's Piano Sonate 44 or 49 (Hoboken).

You can find it on your civ cd as INDFGPRO.mp3 or something similar. Loading a save in the industrial age will do too ;) .

I seriously like this work. I did spend over 2 days to find out what it was (as 99% of even professionals think it is Mozart).

Furthermore: Mozart's requiem. Bach's Menuet&Badineri and Bach's 'Wir setzen uns mit Traenen bei dich nieder'.

3 rumanian folk dances for piano, Bela Bartok

Pachelbel's Canon. It's hideously overexposed, but I don't care.

Pachelbel's Canon (again)
Brandenburg Concerto's
Jupiter from 'The Planets'
Karelia Suite

and many many more...

(not bad for someone who is also heavily into rock/electronic as well)

I don't think I have a favourite.

Preferred composers: William Byrd, Pachelbel, Holst

Canon is good, Holst did some non-planets that are also good, Respect for Byrd is more the era in which he worked than the actual results (he was centuries more advanced than his peers)

Bolero will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first classical piece i truly liked.

Lately, I find my self liking The 1812 Overture quite a bit. And Sabre Dance as well. Carmen is a favorite too.. Canon (I call it the 'Blue Nun' song) isn't all that bad either.

Haven't gotten into Holst....but it's something I've been wanting to check out.

I consider the Overture to The Barber of Seville to be the most sublimely beautiful piece of music in history.

Non Gustibus Disputatum. We're all right.

Hungarian Dances, Brahms.
1st Concerto for piano, Tchaikovsky.
Mefisto Valse, Liszt.
"Das Wohltemperierte Clavier", ALL Fuges & Preludes, J.S.Bach(preferably played by G.Gould).(I'm sure I once again did spelling/grammar mistakes).
I have really MANY favorites, but that would take a page to write.

OT:"7th son of a 7th son", Iron Maiden(to counter-attack the believers).

FL2 said 'Overture' and it reminded me of what my dad says - You can tell how old someone is if you say 'William Tell Overture' and they don't say 'The Lone Ranger'....
