For me:

Michael Mann.

His movies are just too sweet. I have yet to see one that I do not like. The way he works with the camera is always awesome, as is his cinematography. His stories and characters are always involving as well.

Films of his that I've seen:

Thief
Heat
The Insider
Collateral
Last of the Mohicans

Honorable mention:
spielberg, spike lee, yada yada.

I think both Coen brothers direct, and Ethan produces. (Excellent taste, by the way! :goodjob: )

Alfred Hitchcock, his films are amazing

Martin Scorsese

Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Color of Money, The Last Temptation of Christ, Goodfellas, Casino... amazing

Scorcese's good. Some of Kubrick's stuff is very good. David Fincher (Fight Club & Se7en), Juenet & Caro (Delicatessen, City of Lost Children), Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Brazil, Monty Python) are a couple of others that spring to mind.

ahh I agree with all your responses as well sanabas, except I have never seen Juenet & Caro.

John Ford. Everybody else, with the possible exception of Ingmar Bergman, is a wannabe.

In that case, go to your local video store's foreign section, and hire Delicatessen and City of Lost Children. Both are in French, both are awesome. Delicatessen is a very funny black comedy, City of Lost Children is more a fantasy, if I had to pick a movie on my previous list to compare it to I'd go with either of Gilliam's. It also features Ron Perlman (Hellboy) speaking French. One of the two directors also did Alien Resurrection.

Quentin Tarantino

I love this guy and his movies. My favorite is killbill volume 1. That fight scene with the crazy 88s was crazy!

I like Tim, but after Coprse Bride and other dissapointing movies my view of him has begun to sour.

I do like a good Tarentino flick.

Overall though, Kubrick, though his name has Kick in it because he kicks ass.

I liked the corpse bride, only complaint I had with it was that is was maybe too short, but I would rather have amovie be too short than drag on too long.
