I tend to like songs more than groups. There are two groups/artists that I like and will be happy with just about any album/song of theirs.
Most neo-progressive rock bands are influenced by Peter Gabriel era and early Phil Collins era Genesis. Don't confuse it with Genesis after "And Then There Were Three", when they started to become pop rock. The only neo-prog band I heard a few songs from is Marillion, and the Genesis influence is obvious with them.Corlindale said:I.Q.( Prog-rock, supposedly influenced by Genesis)
That was one hell of a show! 4th time i've seen 'em, and definetely the best by far, which is saying something because they were rather good before!colony said:Metallica: 2 months ago I probably wouldn't have put them on this list, and I didn't like any of the albums they'd released for 15 years. Then I saw them live at Donnington. It was simply the greatest set ever. Master of Puppets all the way through? Orion live? I couldn't believe it. They stayed away from St Anger, and apart from the new song I loved every minute of it. They converted a Megadeth fan that day

For people that may think that these are irrelevant, note that part of my PhD thesis will be about how music is related to political opinions and attitudes. You can also check British cultural studies about that, Hebdige's Subculture or the meaning of style is a good place to start. Anyway, here are a few of my favourites, proving that I listen to a great variety of genres:
