Favorite Tech Quotes

What's wrong with a little imprinting? It's the truest statement in all of Civ.

And I recently had to do a poetry recitation. I immediatly went to Ozymandias since I knew 3 of the lines already:

And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings, look on my works ye mighty, and despair"
Nothing beside remains.

You know, it's always bothered me how Nimoy doesn't say "Nothing beside remains."

What's wrong with a little imprinting? It's the truest statement in all of Civ.

No, the truest statement in all Civ is how the Hindu Aztecs slaughtered the vile Buddhist Spaniards, but were then killed by the Greeks, who went on to launch a spaceship to Alpha Centuari.

My favourite ones are:
Rifling: "Political power grows out the barrel of a gun." - Mao Zedong
Fascism: "The victim of the masses will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to a small one." - Adolf Hitler
and Military Tradition: "Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war and then seek to win." - Sun Tzu

Also, I may be alone in thinking this, but I think Sid's voice is fine. He's no Nimoy, but who is?

"If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once in to the sky, that might be like the splendour of the mighty one. I have become Death, the shatterer of worlds."

Oppenheimer, reciting that Indian holy book with a name I can't remember. What a cool thing to say!

I'm quite partial to the Electricity quote, by Edison.

"We will make electricity so cheap, that only the rich will burn candles."

Shame it was a load of BS.

Some other favorites of mine are...

"Never trust a computer you can't throw out a window."
"You can get more of what you want with a kind of a gun, than you can with just a kind word."
"The great masses of the people... will more easily fall victims to a big lie than a small one."

It is not the fault of the inventors, but rather their capitalist masters. Edison and Tesla both were nice guys. Ford and Westinghouse were made of the purest evil. Ford at least did not allow his pet inventor to die penniless. Unlike Westinghouse who stole everything he could from Tesla by conning him into tearing up his contract. Tesla was a trusting man and could not believe that Westinghouse intented to bring him harm.:goodjob:

Ask Darwin

My favorite: (because it's true)
"When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist." - Dom Hélder Câmara (Tech: Communism)

I wonder why people think Darwin is against God? Darwin became an atheist because his daughters died in infancy. He did not arrive at Theory of Evolution alone, he had a challenger who tried to get published first, so Darwin had to publish sooner. Also Darwin spent his entire life corresponding with priests of various churches to try to reconcile evolution with God.

Many Jews became Athiests because of the Holocaust. Azimov and his parents were such.

It is not God that allows evil to happen, it is MEN who do evil. Evil men to be sure.

"Hath not the potter power over the clay to make one vessel unto honor, and one unto dishonor?" - Pottery

And Railroad because "Pig Iron" is just hilarious every time.

In America you do not use chamberpots, but in Germany and Poland, sometimes they still do. They have bathrooms outside of the house. This is what the quote means. One pot to eat from, and one pot for the food after you're done with it.

Definitely SciMeth

"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect, has intended us to forgo their use"-Galileo

Reading this thread let me really appreciate what a good job Firaxis did with the flavor elements of the game. Some of these quotes are just so fitting. That said for me, it's always going to be Steam Power.

"Beep, beep, beep, beep." That's the best!
If you talk about real quotes, "Hath not the potter power of the clay to make one vessel unto honour and another unto dishonour?" is one of the best.

Calendar has a very good Bible quote from Ecclesiastes

Better than pottery IMO

"The great masses of the people will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to a small one" - Adolf Hitler, tech: fascism.

Say what you want about Hitler, he understood how to get the masses behind a lie. (this is a lesson well learned by many modern leaders)

What, just because I'm an atheist doesn't mean I can't appreciate a cool quote.

You have that right. But, why would you study the Bible than?

Anyway back on topic... "I am the state..." That selfish person!

Anyway back on topic... "I am the state..." That selfish person!

I don't believe it's selfishness. It's more of inflated ego. And additionaly, it was because he wanted to be sure that anybody with power in his country were obeying to him ; it was not alway the case in the kingdom.
